Quit my job yesterday. Mistreatment is hard to put up with when you have important, paying freelance work on the side.

Kicked with Matt. Matt did not kick. He gave me combos to hit.

I hit both sides:
far osis- dyno- ducking pm
diving clipper-inf-ducking clipper-rev whirling cross body rake
ripwalk-osis-twirl
osis- diving clipper-rev swirl

and osis diving clipper repeat.

It was good.

Edit:

I learned from far osis-dyno that my set for far osis has to be slightly outward for the far osis. This allows me to catch it in a way that leaves my body not-too-coiled-in. This form allows me to set the bag for a dyno better, provided I actually took the stall and held it long enough to have control.

Then, as long as my set for dyno is done using my support leg, I can complete the motion more downtime, and have good enough form to set the for the ducking paradox mirage. Again, however, keeping the bag long enough to have control of it is crucial.

I learned that reverse swirls can be done many ways. Another method is a faint, popping set with an immediate dexing motion. Almost like a set. The other, which I like a lot, is a hesitated downtime motion off of a slightly higher set. I believe I am going to to be fumbling between these two motions until I really narrow down the set, timing, and how the mechanics of this trick respond to the state of my form out of different tricks.

Can't wait to kick.

Props on the bothsidedness. Flip swirls are murder for me, so I'm definitely jealous on things like osis-twirl both sides. Hopefully see you at Barrett's throwdown in the summer.

Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to make it to NYC. I should still be in the states then after all.

Kicked with Matt. Matt is in pain. He is playing with lavers that have ducktape on them. His g-units were stolen in the mail too. And, he is too stubborn to let me buy him a new pair, even though he bought me a DVD on his self-paying, student budget. I have to give it to him though. He has integrity.

And he is the man.

Today was a memorable session. It was raining outside so we kicked underneath the Bloomfield bridge. Word. We kicked for well over an hour, stopped for refreshments and then kicked another hour or so.

I hit:

*Ducking clipper-ducking clipper-diving clipper-ducking clipper-diving clipper-ducking butterfly-ducking butterfly-string. There may have been an additional ducking clipper right before the first ducking butterfly.
*Ducking clipper X10, ducking pm, inf, kicked the other side ducking PM
*twirl-pm-inf repeat. One-sided, not bsos on twirl.
*Rev. whirl-twirl-pm-inf-ducking clipper- drop twirl (off the foot if I remember correctly)
*Lots of ripwalks and more torques than usual. Looking particularly good: *torque-inf-torque-string.
*Atom smasher b2b twice.
*swirling osis-pm-string
*gyro clipper-inf-gyro mirage
*reverse swirls both sides.
*Sealed a whole bunch of twirls on my bad side. Hit up/mid-time twirl on my good side (Matt said I kicked it but got the dex). I also froze the bejeezus out of a twirl, but I don't know that I hit anything out of it.
*osis rev-whirl X3
*about twenty five contacts of pm infinity repeat, trying to suss out the kinks in my bad pm side.
*legbeater-ripwalk and legbeater-twirl, both into strings.
*osis-diving clipper repeat, again. This really helps my control.
*Twirl-pm-inf-ducking clipper- far swirl-string

Alright. That's enough for my time-capsule. I really want to kick with Jake again. Hopefully one of these weeknights, since I am freelancing atm.

What a nice day.

Rained-out, lat-night session with Matt. Short-lived and ending in posion ivy from yard-work earlier in the day.

Matt's game was really on.

I discovered a few drills that I like. They will improve my generic runs:
Ducking clipper-rev. Whirl repeat.
Ducking cipper-osis-pm-inf-repeat

Not exactly ground-breaking runs, but going for longer drills forces me to land my clippers better, take my weight more, dial my weaker side pm, and basically force me to dial ducks.

Hopefully today will present a good session.

I hit four twirls on my off-side today with better form that my other.
Atomic rev. whirl- muted and other style
played out of ducking reverse whirl a few times
double pick-up-far swirl, second try
ducking pm-weak sided legbeater
legebeater-gyro butterfly (weak gyro side)
ducking clipper- reverse whirl- dyno bsos (I like this new drill)
Twirl-pm-butterfly swirl- string
Lots of longer strings with less bops.

Matt hit a 6 add move, I think: Pixie set, backside toe blizzard. My understanding is that the toe blizzard gets an x-dex. Besides this he was also generally on fire.

Jake played well. He hit a new move, but I missed it. Perhaps he will tell us about it. He played very well. We all kicked for a long time. It was a seriously fun time.

Dude, from the sounds of it, you've been ripping it up! NICE! Your whole scene sounds so chill with good footbag. I had so much fun hanging with you and Jake (missed meeting Matt, would have loved to see Caleb) at X-mas - I wish you were my crew here :-)

Bob, man- Jake and I feel the same way. To honor your kind words, I pushed myself to learn my off-side quantum butterfly tonight. You said you thought I could get this set and you are right. I hit the move at least six times.

Other things I hit today:
weak side swirl-torque (off the foot)
torque-ducking pm X2. Both the first tries.
torque-ducking butterfly the first try, on the other side.
Stepping far rev. whirl
I had some very good strings today too, which surprised me because for the first half hour I was playing really poorly.

learned a new drill I like a lot: ducking butterfly-rev. whirl repeat. came really close to hitting it but mostly I learned a lot trying it.

from the fingers of Matt:

"butterfly<muted stepping ss mirage<muted pixie ss mirage<rev datw (both sides in one string)
ripwalk<osis (woo, osis!)<pdx mirage<alpine smear (both sides)
some string with symposium blizzard in it
butterfly<dive<pdx mirage<symp. smear<some other stuff<pixie flail
rubberman
other stuff"

Matt is good. Jake is good. Life is good. But I will have to keep my eyes open for a new job once my freelance projects are done. Wish me luck footbag world!

I could not kick yesterday. I don't know if it's the air or what, but as soon as it gets warm out I no longer feel healthy in Pittsburgh. The quality and pollen are such a bad combination for me.

Anyway, I kicked a tiny bit while Matt kept it real. Mostly I was happy to hit longish, unique strings in jeans. My game was limited to moves that I need to school anyway. I did a lot of ducking, rakes, and even some spinning. Perhaps I will kick in jeans more often.

I've been feeling miserable all week. I hope this goes away.

You guys going to the NY tourney in July right? It'd mean a lot to me to play with you there Ian.

If I am in the US I will be there. It would mean a lot to me also. Seeing Europe for the first time is also very important though, to me and my girlfriend. She studied six months in Madrid and travelled a bunch. There is a lot that we both want me to see. We are planning on a marathon trip to Germany, France and Spain. Hopefully both the trip and event will be possible. In the meantime I am going to finish up these freelance projects and master flash. Flash is putting a major smile on my face, despite the local conditions.

It's all about the balancing of money and time. A future in freelance seems to resonate well with a future in freestyle.

Kicked with Matt.

I hit some spins
ducking clipper-osis-pm-inf b2b X3
rev. swirl-string- otherside rev. swirl- string drop on swirl
atomic legover on both sides. First time on one of them. It was hard- other one was easy
very high quantum set on my new side, completed with butterfly

I am still not completely better but at least I could kick today. There were some good strings.

Sucks that my hard drive died but I am having a good time rewriting our site from scratch. I swear that it will be up very soon. Flash makes web design so much more fun.

Kicked with Matt.

I learned that if I raise my left knee I can clear the bag on my weak-side whirl. It baffles me that neither I nor anyone else I have asked for help after all these years was able to clue me in on this. It makes me really want to take a step back and learn from this. I am, however, glad that I at least learned this on my own. It does boost my confidence that I was able to finally solve this bizarre riddle, and that I am not too old of a dog after all. I had a chemistry professor once say that the hardest part of learning is learning how to learn. I am going to remind myself of this folly for the rest of my life.

So, without further ado:
weak side whirlx2-string
whirl-dyno-whirl a couple times
whirl-dyno-whirl-osis
swirl-weak side whirl
Whirling Swirl. Yeah. At least three really good ones. Two sealed with osis. Several others off of the foot. A new move that I am truly proud of.
stepping osis bsos first try
An excellent quantum butterfly-string on my new strong side
several really strong atomic moves on my weak side. Atomic ss butterfly swirl is looking like a real possibility
swirl bsos. swirl-pm-string on weak side
Gyro sets are looking a lot better
Paradox drifter, first time ever on the right side. Off the foot on the other.

Aside from this, the website is looking much better. The flash component may take a bit but other than that things seem to be going fairly quickly.

I also had a break through on guitar. All of the exercises I have done this winter based around identifying verticle relationships between differently shaped barre chords, and stages of major/minor key chord progressions is all really starting to really gel. Today, on a whim I managed to wing chords to a reasonably complex electronic track I made in several different positions all over the neck. The fruits of my labor are really paying off. What else. Oh yeah, and I have an idea for a graphic novel and two very talented people want to help me.

So, today was a good day.

Kicked with Matt. He is getting so good. I wish that there were more pros in the area to give him advice. I can't keep up with his drills.

My knee was hurting today so I laid low. Thought about M. Cross's stepping set tutorial a bunch.

Highlights:
Stepping ss butterflies
Better Ripwalks
better pixie sets on my right side and the start of them on my left.
Paradon-whirl bsos
Paradon-pdx drifter
pm-legbeater bsos. Hippy and good form.

Jake brought someone new today. They are pretty cool.

Matt kicked in units. He is suffering but can still duck pixie sets.

WSX2
ripwalk-dyno bsos
downtime twirl
Fairy other side mirage X2
A very good quantum butterly-string

short session

EDIT: I learned how to do dyno in better form today. I hit them back to back with confidence and sealed them.

I also hit gyro mirage and gyro pm on the other side in one string

And torque out of paradon is a new favorite link. I need to school both of these and together is fine.

Oh, and my kness are pissed-off.

Pretty fun session yesterday. It was windy and the mulch nearby kind of smelled, but no one complained and it didn't seem to effect our games.

I filmed a bunch and experimented with different anglesand ideas. Look for the results in some future video that I may get around to making.
Then of course, as soon as my memory cards were filled up, our games improved markedly and we all ripped pretty well.

This kid Ben dropped in too who I met at a concert a few weeks back. He's super excited about footbag and is planning to devote alot of time this summer to getting better at freestyle. I hope he follows through.

Ken- Ian may be in Europe, but I'll definitely be in NYC in July. Lookin' forward to another NYC throwdown.

Kicked with Matt. He is not happy about his g-unit-weakened pixie sets. Of course he made up for this by hitting paradox atomsmasher repeatedly on one side and atomic tapping style legover on the other. What else. I dunno. Both sided fairy set strings, lots of contacts, solid osis', paradon is looking better on one side as well.

I had a weird day. My right leg is mad at me and it says I should chill out on the rev. swirls, swirls and twirls. So I switched things up and focused on other things.

Swirl-pm four times, weak side
Torque-swirl, off the foot, weak side swirl
paradon-swirl-pm, weak side (same from earlier count)
Paradon-swirl-osis X2 strong side
Came really close once to WS on my weak side
Torque bsos at least a couple times

Off of the foot:
Ducking clipper-mobius 3 times
Reverse whirl- Mobius twice

Twice it was so there but I was so displaced by the new motion that I did not know how to link out of it well.

It seems that reverse whirl is a really good move for me to spin out of. I came really close to hitting mobius twice on the other side as well, but I hit it with my knee. I want this move.

I did not kick today but I hung out with Matt and Ben and watched them. Ben is intense. He's a funny guy. He was wearing a very funny shirt.

Matt is the shit. Watching Matt kicking in G-Units is killing me. Before he was hitting wacked combos beyond my attention span, but he was flailing like a cat in a bathtub ( his description actually). Now he is slowing down and owning his contacts.

Meanwhile, my left ankle and my right knee are pissed-off. Fortunately I ate plenty of steak and sushi tonight, so there is a chance that my body will show me some appreciation.

I did hit ducking PM- inf- osis in Tsubo's (the worst shoes for footbag ever). That was nice.

Edited because I had to retype half of it. The project I am working on right now has me exhausted. Here are some related links:

My current collaboration
Our previous work
Current websight

And we bought our tickets for Europe so I now know that I will be going to be able to attend the NYFA jam.

Matt hit: pdx AS both sides
Fairy butterfly-PM repeat
ducking clipper-stepping ss butterfly repeat, on request, second try
paradox DLO bsos
one particular 15 contact run with one or two guilts
etc. (understatement.)

I wore khakis but did alright. Practiced spins. Rolled a mobius off of my foot. Learned how to slow down my osis' and drilled them b2b longer. 30+ bop string. Swirl-pm-string-swirl other side-osis-string. Rev. SwirlX2 on one side, same string. Blagh.
