Re: SwirlWorld Video Links

Let me tell the story of how I learned swirls. I had added swirl to my monthly trick drills/practices on July 4. I did it BSOS that day, but they felt so worked for, sloppy, not controlled, not linkable. I kept practicing them through the summer. I asked Nick Polini and my super secret footbag mentor what the secret to swirl is because I just wasn't getting it. They they both told me the same little trick/secret, but it didn't click with me... I didn't "get" it still. I still practiced them daily trying to figure it out. Something happened where I accidentally set the bag much differently, to the point where I thought I shouldn't even go for it, so I put my set foot down, but then I went for it anyway!

The story should end here in a drop.

The story ends with the most perfect swirl I've ever done with complete balance and complete control. That feel... I ended my very short sesh that day because I wanted to savor that feel. I've let that feel sit with me for some time until a couple of weeks ago when I started to do them again. After hitting that accidental one, it seems my Mind has locked in that feel in my muscle memory. SwirlWorld was discovered somewhat accidentally. I WAS SEARCHING for it, but finding the form seems to have been accidental. And now I feel as though since I've had bad form for so long, and now I have better form, I could probably teach someone how to find better form as well for their own selves.

good swirls. They've been my thing lately too. I really think swirls (especially reverse) are the key to great clipper control. Judging by a few that you stuck in those vids, i'd say that theory might hold true.

Keep it up mang love the news show too!

Re: It's NOT a secret to everybody anymore...

Post by MetZelRio »

The top post on this page is great for several reasons:

1. Most obvious: Met ZELDA Rio (those names were chosen in the order of my favortie Nintendo Franchises: Metroid, Zelda, Mario

2. Link is not the person who says this line: "It's a secret to everybody" so it's fun to see Link say it.

3. I have made mention to My Super SECRET Footbag Mentor Several times on here. Perhaps it's time to reveal him to readers of my blog, but not necessarily "EVERYBODY". Mr Dylan Fry. BAPtized 2004 (same year as Jorden Moir!)

4. Link's name is LINK, and I have filled this page with Swirl LINKS and There is now a picture of Link on the top post.

5. Ken Somolinos Top Posted me! (again!)

*********By the way, I'm about to have a SERIOUS talk with Ott Boggly on the disrespect he showed to Ken, Jim and Lon. You guys are Heroes to me. I don't think he will EVER show his face around me again after I get done with him.

****** Another By the way C-Fan, I did put a swirl tutorial together... but I'm not sure if you were serious or not about your swirls... but I threw it together for you and other folks who wanted to hear what I had to say. It's in the Modified video section.

Aka: Rev Swirl> All of everything ever.

So good dude. I'm so pumped you can do them pretty well now! I'd love to help you with some variations on it at NYJ. I do challenge you to hit the following before NYJ:

1) Reverse Swirl x10 bs
2) Swirl x10 bs
3) Swirl> Reverse Swirl x10 bs

That is how you build up your balance and really improve your form. Once you can hit stuff like this, both consecutive ss links and muted/spinning tricks become a lot easier.

Good luck, soldier.

Speaking of which, your current form and physical shape in that last video have since improved a ridiculous amount. You could own BSOS Symp Whirls in good strings if you wanted to right now. Nice going on those Rev Swirls though... Oh and I'm not biased toward those or anything.. :P

My friend shred4life got injured so I did a little shred for him. He is really good at axle and gyro toe stuff, so I hit spinning gyro toe BS for him in this video, and I'm training rev swirls, so i did a few links of those, not any flipside TO SHOW yet. (cuz they aint no guuud.)

These revelations came to me because I completely LOST my flipside Pdx mirage, and because of my thorough drilling of swirls on both sides.

1. Downtime Dexing the bag seems to have best results if you begin the dex the moment it changes from uptime to downtime. Sounds obvious and probably is. It's just an AHA! moment for me that has cleared up some issues in my game.

2. (Big deal) setting the bag from clipper doesn't get its set height and control from raising the clipper foot only. It comes from the support leg, probably a good 50% of it, so it's just as important to use it as a clipper set magic hop, before you do the magic hop for the trick part of the trick you're doing. A pre-magic hop-magic hop.

I looked at some videos of great players to verify my findings and it seems to be correct. The most important verification to me, however, is the results I have received from doing it this way. Oh, how my clippers have improved, and the control I now have (which wasn't terrible before)

Oh, yeah, I got my flip pdx mirage back. Good thing I lost them momentarily to fix that. Oh, and my flip osis was fixed a good amount too.
