Had a 45 minute skooling session in my garage tonight. it was tough to get out there, knowin' it was gunna be cold, that I'd be shreddin' solo, and that i was already tired, but I made myself play, because I knew I wanted to and I knew I'd have fun. So, I skooled inspinning again (funny how Erik and I started skooling it at the same time), flip stepping, and the combo flip torque>blur.

Session highlights included:

-hitting all of my freakin goals!
-torque>inspinning clipper (one side only due to time)
-flip torque>blur (3x!)
-flip torque>blur>atom smasher
-Inspinning clipper>blur (bs, inspired by the aforementioned Erik Chan)
-flip haze (x3, thats flip haze #s 3, 4 and 5)
-haze BSOS (flip haze to start the string)

:) This is the smiley of satisfaction. I made goals and for once, they were attainable in just one session. Side note, to hit the inspin clip>blur combos, one side took 13 tries, the other 16 tries. I tried haze about 50 times in total to get the 3 that I hit.

EDIT:
bedwetter>eggbeater both sides
flip bedwetter>atomsmasher (soooo close to witchdoctor too)
most flip bedwetters ever in one shred for me, about 7-8

Great shred! I just had a 3 hour long session with Emily, for the first two of which Funklovesfootbag also kicked. It was really fun. A lot went down.

I find that im always giving them advice on how to do things, what to do, and when to do it. I try not to be all controlling about their games, but when I see components that are good in their repertiores, I combine them in my head and figure out what permutations they might be able to hit and then ask/tell them to try it. they usually oblige.

Anyhow, I played *really* well today. My runs were long when i wanted them to be, my legs felt very fast, and I had good focus for most of the session. Some the runs i hit included: a torque TOR with about 5-6 torque moves in it, a run starting with 14 ripwalks> at least 20 more guiltless contacts, a run with bedwetter BSOS, a run with superfly BSOS for the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!, and a couple of other indistinct but fairly long strings.

In terms of combos, i didnt try too many. One that i was proud of, however, was spinning osis>inspinning osis. Also, I hit bedwetter>toe whirl on Emily's request. Also torque>gyro mirage, which is really tough for me.

Okay, so here's the good stuff. Single tricks that I hit today, which are: 1) really hard, 2)hit only a few times ever by me, or 3) hit for the first time tonight:
-(1&2) quantum eggbeater
-(1&3) diving eggbeater (on my very first try too!)
-(1&3) quantum butterfly swirl 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O
-(1) bladerunner (atomic eggbeater)
-(1) the most clean sailing mirage I've ever hit (hit it at least 15 times, but there was no doubt that this one was soooo textbook and perfectly executed that it felt great.

Footbag Induced Euphoric State: I'm in a FIES.

EDIT: Just wanted to say that the first time i tried a quantm butt swirl was just after Ales hit it in one of the Telovcina videos that Dexter put out . . . that was well over 18 months ago I believe. Ever since that time, Ive wanted to hit it very badly. Over the months, would try it about every 4-5 months, but I never quite had the foot speed to clear the swirl. I guess now I do, because yesterday I hit it, twice! Aw man it felt so good, better than anything I've hit in a long while. Thanks for witnessing it Emily.

That combo is sooooooooo Tim Kelly 97. :) frobs. Also props on quantum egg... that trick is so awesome. The 34 contact guiltless run also sounded good. Glad you had such a great session, those are the best!

-tombstone>pdx blender (1st time for this, 1st try)
-fury>flip tapping drifter (1st time, 2 tries)
-flip bedwetter>parkwalk

lots of good combos hit, prolly about 5-10 20+ contact runs, including one 35'er or so. Session mostly for skooling combos tho.

I feel like Im getting better recently- like I can have longer runs at will. hats a good feeling, but still, since they are about half bails, its not all that great. Anyway, I had an okay session today with the SC crew, really tho, it was too cold to play and I was shirtless, which made it even worse.

I hit grifter>pdx blender 1st try, which was nice, and also tombstone>grifter, which was very sweet too. Other that that, I dont really know. One goal i have is to be able to step from grifters, because while grifter is a rare move, when someone actually does it, the usual following move is a bail or a downtime element. Nobody really steps from grifters-not that it can't be done. I started a run with pdx grifter, hit it first try actually. there must have been more that i hit but i cant really remember much The cold must have blunted my memory of the session.

Solo session in the Atpos Shred Garage. I hit everything that I wanted to hit except for two combos, fury> enterrage, which rolled off, and blurriest>flurry, for which I couldnt find the timing. Here is what DID go down tho:

-diving eggbeater (2x)
-blurriest>blurriest to start run
-blur> toe torque>repeat (finally 8) )
-nuclear ss legover>paradon to start a run
-tombstone>grifter again
-grifter>blur (attempted on only 1 side so far)
EDIT: more
-best string of ducking/diving moves, lots of uniques
-inspinning clipper>whirling swirl>long run
-cool sick 3: pdx egg> terrage> toe blur

I have been playing net recently with the Santa Cruz net crew. It is really fun and I like it almost as much as freestyle. I am interested in getting very good at net. My training starts this Sunday.

I had 3 spikes today and I was actually in control of 85% of my kicks, which is the best I've ever felt on the net court. Watch out Jonny Leys!

Energetic but apathtic session, somehow. Long time playing, not that much to how for it. What I did hit will go in my new video (to be posted in prolly 2-3 weeks). Ill briefly mention a combo or two:

-lotus>runs (2 times)
-gravedigger>blur again! Yay!!!!
-blurriest to blurriest again
-toe fog (quantum op dlo) for 3rd time
-consecutive eggbeaters
-blurrier>diving mirage
-zulu clip>blurriest

had to dig into the archives to find this ole blog . . geez.

Had a 1.8 hr session tonight and plenty went down. I hit quagmire again, i think on my first, maybe second try. It was soooo unexpected that, again, I sealed it with a frikkin' clipper, and then a dope-ass run. Also I hit a cool combo or two, namely blurriest>flurry about 10 times tonight. I'd hit it only 1ce previously. Also, I hit symp quantum pickup for the first and second times tonight, and also symp quantum butterfly. Floating set is totally possible for me now and im going to start to skool this set . . . i think? Also. let's see, a pretty darn clean full symposium blur. I got fairly close to 2 additional moves, which I won't name here, but which I've never seen anyone hit either in person or on video. I may be the first to hit at least one of them. I footed one tonight- its a grifter move. Whoops, Ive said too much :x Lets see, stylie combo for the day: diving pickup>smoke, close to pdx drifter>twirl. Flipside superfly is coming along nicely too. Strong rolls off consistently :? Even though Ive only been playing 2-3 times weekly recently, I feel as fast as ever.

Yesterday, in a beachtop session with Amelia and Fletcher of the SC crew, I had a lot of fun. In fact, we all did, which was great. When we started kicking, it was super foggy and quite cold, prolly about 55 degrees. Halfway through the session hough, it began to clear up ad ultimately, it was about 70 degrees and sunny, right next to the beach. That was fortunate. Anyway, Amelia was playing wel, although not going for runs. She was trying to break some of her consecutive trick records, which she got close to. She was happy with herself and the way she played, except for not being able to hit pixie legover. She got clooooose though. Fletcher was playing a bit under average, but did manage pixie legover BS and some nice clippers and butterflies. Then he hurt his neck going for a symp mirage and was done for. I was playing pretty well I guess. I hit mobius to a run, which was nice. I hit the super cleanest flip superfly Ive ever hit, and I almost hit strong off of it. Today, Im definitely going for superfly b2b. Also, I hit three very good sick 3s, but none of which can probably compete with Jorden's or Honza's entries. Thats okay tho, cause I'm getting BETTTTTTTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im breaking down barriers in my game concerning speed and dexes- boundaries are limitless to me.

(Gavel Pounds 3x)
“This court is now in session.”

Prosecution’s Opening Statement:
Today, the Santa Cruz Footbag Club was confronted with my best freestyle and net sessions ever. I f-ckin’ tore it up at freestyle and at net, thanks to my new net shoes. In freestyle, for about 30 minutes, on average my runs were between 20 and 35 contacts. It was pretty amazing. In net, my serves were blazin’ fast and my sets were high and well placed. I even had three spike-“ish” kicks over the net. To finish the net session, I beat AJ in games to 5 points twice, which felt good. But, it was getting dark so it may have just been his old eyes.

Body of Evidence:

Yo J-bone,

Nice video. i really like all the grifter stuff. I always love to see ur vids. More more more. At least individual ones ;).
I wanted to ask if you can hit some terraging stuff for me. I should probably put this in your challenge thing, but i don't go into that room.

So . . . Ive been fairly sick in the past week and I haven't shredded very hard since last weekend. However, I did have a small kick this weekend, from which there is very little to report. When Fletcher was a bit miffed over having had little success with clippers over the first 10 minutes or so of warmup, as we (Emily, Jackbag, and I included) all were from playing rather sloppily, I proceeded to say something to the effect of:
"Never get too dissatisfied with yourself/game on one particular day that you decide you'll not hit anything worthy in a session. Instead, take it easy and allow yourself a full warmup before you cast any judgements."

I then proceeded to hit a 40-ish contact guiltless string with smears, drifters, whirls, and a bunch of symp tricks and bails. It was just rather well timed after my soapbox schpiel about the mental game.

First off, I forgot that during my Sunday shred I hit a spinning pdx blender, which is a rare occurance. In other news, I had a short but intense session last night and I managed to hit a slew of cool things, including two new 6-adders (heh, sounds funny). One of them is going to be my Sick 1 for November, unless I manage to hit something even harder, which is unlikely :x . On an unrelated note, I set a goal for myself recently, to be completed prior to my Chicago arrival: to have my flip stepping set be as strong as (or close to) my strong side stepping set.
Also, I want to have at least 5 tricks that I can hit consistently (better than 1 out of 3 tries) that could win a Sick 1 competition. I have to go marketing (grocery shopping) tonight so I dont know if Ill be able to play, but I reeeeeeaally want to! I still sooooooo stoked off my my two new tricks, which Im sorry, I wont say here. But for the SC crew, they've seen me trying one of them for about the last month. Thanks for reading my blog! Oh, and Tom, I doubt I can hit terraging mirage . . . that is really hard. I might be able to hit terraging same clipper tho.
