I really like Metallica - pre S&M, any Ozzy, all Maiden, some Priest, love Panteras drummer, and Henry Rollins will kick anyones ass.

I saw Epica and Kamelot in Rochester on the 23rd of September! The show was awsome. Pretty decent opening bands too... Felice and Serenity Falls.

I saw Epica and Kamelot in Toronto 2 days before KICKASS!
Cool! Epica is one of my favourite bands -- I was soooo excited; it was sooooo awesome!! Kamelot, sadly, was bad in concert -- very muted sound, and the mic kept squeaking -- it definately was not as awesome as the recordings I've come to enjoy (while Epica was even better than their recordings!).

I totally agree with that, I don't know what the problem was with Kamelot's sound guy, but Epica really sounded great. Maybe it's also because they looked so great on stage too. Too bad I hadn't read this thread before KICKASS, since I would have liked to talk about it with you there.

Metal is all I listen to ( I play in a metal band too

I draw a lot of my inspirations from thrash metal -

Metallica
Slayer
Anthrax
Kreator
Dark Angel
Pantera
Mastodon
Trivium
Just to name a few of my favourite bands.

Though I listen to many if not all forms of metal I usually tend to lean towards thrashier sounding bands.

Opeth is untouchable. So is Symphony X, just listen to 'Smoke and Mirrors'. I've seen them both live and they rocked my socks.
Unfortunately metal is a vast sea of trash with few gems, but those gems shine extra bright.
Anyone heard of Liquid Tension Experiment? 'Acid Reign' will rip you a new one.

Dragonforce does not impress me, unless you feel like playing DnD. Cannibal Corpse and Dimmu Borgir?? I'd like to know what part of the brain is able to accept that as music.

There are lots of people who listen to those bands... Just because you don't listen to them dosn't make them bad.

The good thing about metal .. is its diversity.

I like all of those bands and some others. I like some metal, but I can't stand Nu-Metal. Does anyone else dislike Nu-Metal?

EDIT: I like Wolfmother and QOTSA (Queens of the Stone Age) too. Both are Stoner Metal bands if you haven't heard of them.

I recently dicovered some new grindcore/cybergrindcore and I must say that I love it. The first band is called wecamewithbrokenteeth and it's some pretty intense stuff. The second band is called Preschool Tea Party Massacre. Their songs are great to groove to in my opinion. A good balance of techno and metal all in one sound. Check em' out on myspace or something! \m/

All Shall Perish, Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying, Children of Bodom, Crimson Moonlight, Dragonforce, Extol, Gojira, Haste the Day, Lamb of God, Pantera, Quo Vadis, Slechtvalk, System of a Down, OLD Underoath(Before they went scremo/hardcore)

I guess a couple of those could be considered Hardcore in someone's brain, but I don't care. All of those bands are the shiznat!

Clutch's new video. Maybe more "hard rock" than metal but I got the new album and it's excellent. Bluesy influence in a lot of the songs. These guys have been around for over 15 years, their early stuff is really in-your-face hardcore-ish metal, they've gotten more jammy over the years, but are still my favorite band.

Within Temptation is opening for Lacuna Coil on their North American tour! I'm so excited! Plus, they are playing within walking distance from my new apartment in NY on 5/12. Anyone else interested in going?
