Last year registration was somewhere around 60 bucks for Open competitors. This year, I believe the price is higher because meals are provided for players each day. There is definitely information on what the "players pack" includes, and I think it is up at the official worlds website.

for 50$ you have the same access has a pro player for 170$

I was preparing a routine, but I don't feel like paying 120$ extra dollars just so I can do a routine in front of people. I rather go busking and get payed.

No offence, I think it's a great thing for the organisers if they can gather better conditions for the player, but such a boost of price is kind of a surprise I was not expecting.<

There is the Amateur for 106$, you can participate but not eligible to prize money, maybe this is a good alternative? seems more fair.

Sorry, but I looked all over a couple websites about worlds and found nothing about what's included in the Player's Pack. Could somebody point me in the right direction, or just post what's in the Player's Pack. Also, I saw on the official Worlds website that price of registration was still being deliberated... however, I can't seem to find where I saw that, now that I go back to look for it... Why does it cost so much? And what's with this separation WITHIN THE OPEN LEVEL between the REAL pros and the not real pros... I was so excited to go open, now I'll wind up in this gimmicky version of Open that still separates me from the pros. Isn't it only Vasek who's eligible for prize money anyway? Why does this Amateur section exist? If everyone were paying to go Open (as one devision) maybe the price would not have to be so high? Unless someone can convinse me otherwise (which I would appeciate), I am not in favour of this change.

Ben, check out the registration page on .Org:
http://www.footbag.org/registration/reg ... 1194517448
.Org wrote:Registration includes T-shirt, footbag socks, booklet, party entry, sales, one meal per day, drinks and other extras. Non-competitors who wish to get these benefits should register as Guest (Kc 800).

Stoooookkeedd.
(I'm not complaining, 'cause I don't compete, and $50 for all of that stuff sounds like a steal :))

Uhh, actually, what I'm curious about though, is do you have to sign-up on Footbag.org to register? Not that it's a big deal, just wondering for non-footbaggers.

More thoughts:

I don't know why this Open but not Professional division exists. You're either at Open level, or you're not, aren't you? I'm not in favor of the division between intermediate and open; the distinction between Open and REALLY Open baffles me. What if I entered in the Open division without paying the extra $63.00, and then I skooled Vasek? Would I be denied the World Title? Probably not, but since I don't win the prize money, what happens to it? Surely this would add some confusion. But this is an entirely ridiculous possibility, because nobody is going to skool Vasek. Why would ANYBODY pay the $169.00?? (I'm only juuust short of being 100% serious.) It just seems really lame for people to be able to entre (and be DRAWN to entre) into a division that means you're allowed to compete against the best, but we all know that you're resigning yourself not to win. I've already entered in this division! The extra 63 bucks is ludicrous for me to pay!

This brings me to my next point. Guests pay 50 bones, and get all the benefits I do, minus the thrill of the comp (including the meals, shirt, socks, party access, and everything else, right?) Why does the chance to compete cost $56.00 when you’re not even buying the chance to win it all back? Aren't all the judges volunteers? Was I not asked for a donation, separate from that fee? I'm very curious as to what my $56.00 is for. If it's to pay for the organization of the tournament, shouldn't the guests have to pay for that as well? They're coming to watch the tournament, and therefore benefiting from it's having been organized... I desperately want to compete in routines at Worlds, and would therefore pay ridiculous amounts of money to do it. However, as I don't understand what the big-fee is for, I feel taken-advantage-of.

I’m not just trying to bitch and complain. I’m just curious. I hope somebody will help me to understand.

There is one food a day included in the registration. In comparisson with 2003 registration the prize is that "high" just because the prize level went up and the dollar is so low due to fucked up US economy, that is it, otherwise it is exactly the same like in 2003...

its not a distinct division, if you win without chipping in for prize money you will not get any $$$. you'll get the title though. i dunno what happens with the money. i guess they'll use somewhere else or it's donated to IFPA.

the question is, whether you think that a footbag event should be a prize-money event afterall. i, personally think its stupid, but some people like to strive for that kind of award. so i would be disturbed of being forced to pay extra for the $$$-winner. all they do is leave that decision to you. this discussion is going on since i started footbag. i guess they just wanted to have a prize-money without orcing everybody to pay for it.
This brings me to my next point. Guests pay 50 bones, and get all the benefits I do, minus the thrill of the comp (including the meals, shirt, socks, party access, and everything else, right?) Why does the chance to compete cost $56.00 when you’re not even buying the chance to win it all back?
this is obviously for the specific case that somebody (like me) is bringing his girlfried. she would not come to watch, if she had to pay the same as i do. whether or not she gets the food and shirt for 50$ is her decision. however, i'm pretty sure those that pay as guest, do not cost the same (in organisation and food) as those that play. my guess is that their money supports all of us competing, not the other way around. so if anybody is taken advantage of... its the guests.
Aren't all the judges volunteers?
not 100% sure, but there have been paid judges as compensation for them not to compete and having to be available (especially if the timetable doesnt work as expected).
Was I not asked for a donation, separate from that fee? I'm very curious as to what my $56.00 is for. i am very sure, that the organizers are not charging any $ more than they desperatly need to fund the event. i dunno what it costs to rent a stadium for a week. we here, would be charged 2300.- (EUR that is) for a weekend in a decent gym! (plus a deposit of 5000.-).
thats not a good comparison, i know. but still im shure they will need any extra cent they get from the donations

i ma trying.. i hope you get the idea, although my english sucks.

btw: the US$ has lost almost 30% against the CZK since last worlds. thats even more than against the EUR (-13%). so a third of the extra-charge comes from fanny-mae and freddie-mac ... (and that silly war-driven president of yours, who is responsible for and profiteering from the higher energy costs. ;) )

Honza, can you elaborate on what the meal includes? It will help with budgeting.
