shreddon at a skate park had the exact effect i was hoping for. The skateboarders imediately droped there boards and droped there jaws to the first time seeing freestyle footbag. I mean they were goin nuts about my begginer tricks and had tons of questions about the sport.

I loved awnsering there questions and even taught two of them how to do there first freestyle move. they both hit ATW kick very nicely to where if they had more practice or lavers they would have delayed instead of kick.

i love the atmosphere of seeing everyone skating and hanging out. And i would be lying if i said i did not enjoy the attention of feeling like i was the absolute best "hackey sacker" these kids have seen.

But not to worry i have CIC jams, and jorden moir vids to put me in my place lol.

A year ago I wrote:Today, Dan , Reile and I did a 7 hour footbag promotion marathon where we exposed and taught highschool kids about footbag for 7+ hours. Footbag was one of the many stations that the kids would stop and participate in their activities. For doing so, they received a sticker proving that they did the activities and moved on to another station. I believe 8 stickers was the minimum and any more than that was eligible for prizes.

The school provided us with a table to display bags and video cases plus a TV with VCR to play footbag vids throughout the day. We were also assigned a student helper for the first four periods. We asked him to keep an eye on the table and make sure nothing was stolen. This guy was fucking awesome! Nothing was taken those first 4 periods and after his shift with us was done he volunteered to come back and help us count kicks and hand out stickers. He had also never played before today and by the time we left he was able to kick it 15-20 times in a row and do toe stalls and was close to flying clipper.

We didn't shred hard for any lengthy period of time, just enough to catch their attention. For their sticker we made them kick a footbag 5 times in a row. We gave stickers out to people who didn't reach 5 but showed that they honestly tried. For large groups of kids we put them into several circles and they all got stickers for getting a full hack before the bag hit the ground.

Most of the kids were content to just get their sticker and move on. But there were a few that wanted to watch the vids or stick around and learn a bit more about the sport. It was a bit chaotic at times with swarms of kids coming in and starting circles of their own. The cirlces. though, were the best chance to teach tricks to a bunch of kids at the same time.

Next year I hope to be more organized with more info on the sport in the form of flyers and have more freedom footbags to hand out as prizes. Hopefully we can have more club members show up to help out too. 4 square on the sidelines would be the shit...

B-day jam updates:

-Meinard is coming (Return of the Beef Ninja!)
-Reile, I heard wants to come out. Although I think it may be too close for him to put forth the time and effort to make it
-Brian is likely to attend
-James Risden has been informed and is arranging his schedule to come out
-Ordering Revolution bags, maybe as prizes...
-Site and time still being figured out. I would like give at least a weeks notice if at all possible

heard @ Lane about a month ago playing 4 square. I'm server (king) and I've got game point so I have to serve to the person who's got the second highest score:

"Game point! Who's got high?"

This girl with a slightly worried look checks over her shoulder before looking me dead in the eye and in all seriousness says, "Uh, I'm stoned..."

You know something's funny when a person looses their vertical base while laughing. But 7 people simutaneously? That's gold.

A couple of weeks ago Tom suggested that one of us in the club should just start stitching our own footbags. Instead of really thinking it through I just kinda laughed in his face (sorry about that, man) about it stating that we're not exactly known for our individual productivity, much less our collective efforts. I'm as much to blame for that as anybody. I tend to shoot down any ideas that aren't my own and I'm sincerely trying to change that.

I think that we are capable of being more than just a bunch of guys that kick a footbag once a week. If nothing else we should do more to gather players to come out regularly. The scene in Chicago isn't as big as it could be...

as it should be.

Hey Zeke I dont have much to do down here on the south side. I work 7am to 4pm monday thru fri and i dont go to school.

All i do is play footbag and i really want to spread the sport as much as you do. I really love to teach and love the attention you get when people see something new :). I think we should make it a habbit of shredding at skateparks armed with flyers pertaining the links to get these kids straight to the sweetest vids/tutorials and places to purchase equip.

The other thought i have been pondering is getting young kids easy access to lavers. if we meet some young aspiring freestylers and he cant get lavers through the internet i would be more than willing to do it for them and complete the transaction in cash same goes with footbags.

Stitching is not up my ally if my girlfreind had the time i could pursade her to give it a try but she doesnt :(. so good luck with that.

The other idea is to have a basic trick list with a description and tip of how the trick is performed. A list that would have Clipper, ATWs, Leg over, Mirage. Not everyone has the internet and maybe the tips and descriptions would motivate them to stick with it.

The other thought i have had towards this is the way we kick. I noticed while at the skatepark shreding about 10 people took notice to what i was doing and was going nuts over the simple dinky 2 adds i was hitting BUT ONLY 2 PEOPLE ACTUALLY KICKED WITH ME. 2/10 participation is crap i mean a part of me feels like some kids have to much ego to stand in a circle with people who are Extremely more talented than they are. It may be better if were able to do are best to have one circle kicker/noob and if thats not possible maybe we should stop freestyle and just go for "hacks" and goof around shit like that at random times.

last but not least the direct approach. When someone even glances or looks at us we yell "come join.... Dont be shy its fun" Alot of people are shy and may only need a freindly invite. Hopefully jon wont scare people away with odd stories of animal crossbreading :? I recently saw some of the animals he talked about on the intert holy shit the lieger is huge

Just some ideas i have had.

So yeah basically anyway i could help CIC out im more than willing. just consider me your southside cronie lol.

hope to kick with you guys soon.

oh on that note put me down as an absolute positive for the bday jam.

Yeah, I've been meaning to redesign the club flyers for a while now and make some general footbag flyers too. Just gotta stay focused...

This is quite interesting as such an occasion came up today @ Senn highschool. He saw my new lavers and asked if I could help him out. I had to turn him down, I got bills to pay. But if you're still interested in doing this we can talk some more. You do realize that this could get kinda messy with people not paying and such. Perhaps you can start with getting Tim and Tom some new shoes!
The other idea is to have a basic trick list with a description...
Such a document already exists. Daryl Genz of Freedom footbags makes them. We need to get these in bulk!
2/10 participation is crap
I understand what you're saying. But I don't want to assume that just because they are amused by something that they will WANT to do it too. I think people should play footbag because they want to, not because we want them to. I would say that getting the 2 to play with you is a great accomplishment as it is. Or perhaps I'm not thinking big enough...

We do all this. Though we can't often do the newb circle that often since we're all pretty good now. Sounds bad to say, but said in earnest. Whenever there are newbs at places we kick, I/we do easy shit to not scare them off. Buster circles!

I can't wait till CIC gets better, so I can stop holding back on this buster club. 8O

Me and josh kicked at the skate park where the south side jam will be and im glad to say we kicked on the right night.

are little shred circle of 2 quicly grew into about 8. one kid was really really interested and loved the mr sandbag and our shoes. He said him and his freinds tried to get an official highschool hack club but got turned down :(.

I had flyers with links to modified.ca and footbag.org and the info on the southside jam and my email addy. He said his freinds kick everyday but all have the impression that the world of hacky sack is only limited to pendulums flying clipers and baic stalls.

I told him i will kick at that skate park with him and his freinds almost everyday for as long as they keep participating.

I think i even heard a remark along the lines of wow this is way cooler than skateboarding.

I think they also liked the fact that i have not been playing to long and can do alot of cool looking tricks to where in skateboarding it has a much steaper learning curve.

They all sound UBER interested in the southside JAM.

Thinking about the shoes part.

Well im odviously doing this to help the sport so im not looking to make a profit.

But like you said im also not looking to be stuck with shoes that people change there mind and dont wanna fork up the dough.

I have no problem ordering the lavers. I WILL have a problem handing over the shoes with out FULL PAYMENT.
If somebody changes there mind or decides there too expensive then all i gotta do is send them back and get my money back.

I have dj equipment i might be selling soon. I may contemplate using that money to get some bags and shoes to sell. Thats another posibility.

so yeah zeke if you need me to do that have them email me.

Hey guys just reading about the WV jam. This event is late august that gives me more than enough time to actually plan to go to this event.

So as long as one or two people wanna go with and my new job continues to work out I WILL definately go to this event.

But one concern is that iam new to this sport and if this is a profesional event i dont know how that works out. I would like to assume that they will all be as cool and freindly as you guys but if you know for a fact that there not please dont hesitate to tell me.

A long drive but i have done a drive just as long 3 times in one year so no worries.
