Awesome! That was probably the coolest thing I've seen done with a frisbee.
tuomoruutufan wrote:hey zeke i got a funny thing to tell you.

I was listening to my favorite radio show "the bores and burnstien show"

every friday they have a segment called friday fun, this friday funs theme was "mundan sports achievment"

this is the email i sent them:

"This summer at the taste of Chicago me and a friend were throwing the fris-bee around. Were better than average at throwing the disc, we do some creative tricks and throw with good accuracy, and by no means is this a frequently practiced hobby.

My mundane sports moment of greatness came when a group of people who were kicking around a hackey sack had booted the hack in my friends direction. Instead of giving the hack back to them he dropped to his knees, placed the hackey-sack on top of his head, closed his eyes and yelled out "I trust you". I snapped a line drive flat throw that perfectly clipped the bag right off the top of his head. The look of relief on my daring friends face and the cheers of my hackey sack spectators made my week.

we decided to never test fate with a second try, it was a once in a life time throw, those who saw it, will not forget."

They used this as the very first one of the segment, it was the example story and they gave you mad props for being a loon.

I think i may have embelished some of the facts, i dont remember if you closed your eyes or if you said "i trust you" but thats the way the story is in my head and its most entertaining that way.

all that matters is knocked a fucking footbag off your head with a frisbee!!!!!!

That past few weeks have been a blur. Days just merge into one another and become indistinguishable from one day to the next with very few moments worth remembering. The nights are getting longer. God, I miss the summer.

Anygay, I was really excited to play yesterday. I played like total ass cheese but it was still fun to get out and be active. The vibe at Lane is so different than at the park. Games at Welles tends to be more competetive whereas Lane just seems more casual. But there's a chaotic energy there with the kids loudly working things out in the squares. The court itself is the cause for most of the bickering since 2 of the lines bordering the king square are imaginary. Maybe it's just them venting pent up energy and frustration from school.

Voting, despite my sincerest efforts, is barely used unless it's to blatantly rob the king' or highscorer of a fair play. Usualy there is quite a bit of arguing. Some laughter then more arguing. Then of course there are the few characters that waste everyone's times trying to convince them that what they saw was obviously incorrect.

Hack-offs aren't as fun as they used to be since a few of the better players have gone off to college. There are still quite a few talented kickers there but the scene is still weaker as a whole and will need new blood in order to thrive again. Not sure what can be done about that over the winter. Still, it's fun to play there. I've thought about visiting Senn and Lincoln Park to see if there are still kickers there. They'd have to be some hardcore bastards to still be playing in this weather.

Ugh... work is shitty today. My boss must have the worst luck in the world. I knew it, I told my coworker before she left that second shift was going to be long and loud. I hate being right.

Played 2-square with Freddy Sunday. Nathan and Marty bailed out. Played Tom's rule just for fun, no points... I'm such a bastard! Played Highlander too, that pretty much tired me out. Fun session though.

Yeah, I've been growing it out for the past 3 weeks now. I'll probably get the sides and back trimmed up every so often at the barber shop. I hate letting my hair grow though... itchy, so itchy

Played squares 3 times last week and played well each time. Thursday Tom and I went to Lane and met up with Abe. He cought on pretty quick. Someone proposed Tom's Rule and I had a great run of 9 points in a row on trippy serves alone. I was stopped at about 17 points for about 6-8 rounds then finaly won.

Then Tom and I had some serious 2-squares matches during the Duncan/Extreme Spin demo. I felt really good about my game. Defensively I tried to challenge every shot Tom made (as oppose to watching a few that look like they're on their way out) while keeping my own fuck-ups to a minimum. I really wish some of that had been cought on tape. There were plenty of well placed shots taking advantage of the other players poor position, precisely timed double taps, several incredibly athletic saves from out-of-bounds that landed back in the opposing square (and quite a few that didn't but looked freaking cool as hell), body screens and about 5-6 grueling rounds that we gave each other props on. We met in mid air a few times going for the same shot. This tends to happen only when I play with Tom and I would love to actually see footage or a photo of it some time.

There was one play where I tried a sole shove on one of his short passes but Tom had redirected the bag just past my right side as my kick reached full extension and connected with nothing. With my foot still in the air I managed to swing it back for a near blind outside kick that landed just past the line and into his square. I was just about as shocked as he was when the play was over. I can't even remember the number of times where I was so sure there was no-fucking-way-in-friggin-hell he was going to recover from an off balance, spinning last minute save only to find myself on the the defensive. I took him in the first 2 of three matches

Sunday at the Pier I managed to get 2 wins on Nathan after he crushed me in 3 matches in a row 2 weeks earlier. I was still playing well when Abe, Josh and Tom joined in. I got to 17 then started playing really stupid just as Nathan started playing strong and got the win.

I think I do a decent job of varying my shots. The hard part is keeping them in bounds since I almost always target the corners. I need to be smarter on setting up my shots and knowing which ones work better on different players. Defensively, my right outside kick can dig passes that I don't neccissarily have to see and still have enough control to keep it in roughly in the same zip code. I'm getting more confident using my left outside kick. I need to be more aggressive defending whats in front of me though. I let a lot of short passes go unchecked to avoid a contact call or just anticipating a last second kick by the passer. Must go for everything. I think I've got enough time to chase down just about any redirected shot that peaks at least hip level.

God, I love squares!

Stuffed myself well beyond my normal capacity on Thursday, mmmmmmm. rode my bike around for a bit then kicked for an hour (gave some kid one og my sandbags) before seeing my nieces.

Can't get a hold of anyone to play today so I guess I'll just go out for a ride.

It was just me Martin and Freddy today. Played 2 square to 15 points the whole time. Went 2-0 against Freddy and 2-1 against Martin. All my wins today were very decisive. My loss to Marty came after I rallied back to 13 points but he eventually capitalized on my fuck-up for the win. My shots to the near corners were landing more often than not but I feel I could have done a better job of keeping more shots in bounds. I tried a some body screens and was more than a little surprised to see a few of them work. This is not something I use often so to see them score was a big boost. Even got an ace faking a high body screen and doing a reverse Cold Shoulder to redirect the pass.

Played a little sloppy on defense. I found myself completely flat footed and not going for some passes. I need to go for everything. Generally though, I've been playing well and If I keep improving I think I have a very good chance at winning again at NYJ. We talked briefly about how exciting it's going to be this year since just about everyone is playing far better than we were a year ago. Of course there's all the new people to play with too... one more month!

Afterwards we decided to eat some Giordano's and watch a bit of the Bear's game. I've eaten so much this week.

the bears are good...they have everything but a quarterback.

oh, and to anyone that actually saw the game, that 45 yard pass interference call was so bullshit. they were going back and forth, they both had equal chance for the ball, and they gave them the ball where it was dropped, at like the 7 yard line.
wack.
