Oh yeah, and at the Portland session (in that cool racquet ball court with the mini door) I hit 21 infinities which is my new record. :)

I’ve had Aerosmith songs stuck in my head for 30 hours. Let this page end soon so I don't keep seeing his face every time I post here.

EDIT:

Yes, Nate you were my Valentine.

Kevin Crowley you can burn in Hell. But I really hope your ankle feels better.

I'm activly aware of my legs/hips with every step I take. Yuck. I can't believe I'm so sore.

I'm probably going to end up working Friday through Tuesday because I don't have school any of those days and I need to pay off the CSS tickets. What a waste of a 5 day weekend.

 <-- That's not me laughing, that's me eating those last words. In a good way.

After an hour or two of productive footbag-event related work each day, Friday and Saturday nights were spent with good friends. Sunday I went to Steve's house so we could carpool to to the second day of The War of the Worlds: Chaos versus Germany net event which was held at the Bushrod Community Center in Oakland. It was nice seeing some people who I had only met once, and even nicer to see people who I hadn't seen in way too long. Cameron, Bryan, some other guys who live in the area (I'm sorry, I'm so poor with names) and I freestyled outside. It was exciting to go inside and see so much good net going on in person. PT and someone else were sporting the super hott Chaos Puma jacket. Since I wasn't there on Saturday, I'll quote the Chaos website.
Chaos A and German A faced each other in the final match of "The War of the Worlds" this past Saturday. It was a rematch of the semifinals from the 2005 World Championships. Germany came out on top once again as Flo and Patti remained cool while facing a furious comeback attempt by PT and John in game 3. It was a great match and an awesome weekend of net action and partying.

The highlight of the weekend may have been the jam on day 2, Sunday, when official competition took a back seat to pick-up games. Many players got a chance to throw it down with people they've never had a chance to team with or play against.
PT compared this event to Freestyle's CSS in that it gave everyone a chance to just jam with each other and meet and play with people who are of all different levels.

I have a broken in net bag that PT lent me when I went to hang at a Chaos practice a few months ago, but on Sunday he said that I could keep it. :-) He's so nice. I bought a new bag because I want to try to just do kicks with it for control and it's so much different with a very broken in bag.

I got to see Tuan and Lisa play net. I was excited to hear Tuan say that he's most likely going to be at the Santa Cruz Invitational at least one of the days.

After the event broke up, Steve, Flo, Philip and I went to Tess and Ryan's in the city for dinner. Then I hung out with Steve, Flo and Philip at Steve's, where we played a lot of 2 square. While the three of them played, I drank two tall glasses of rum & Coke, so by the time I got up there, I was SO bad. Not that I'm the best to begin with. :-) It was really fun meeting Phillip and Flo. Flo was really quiet but really nice. Phillip was also very nice and had a lot to say about American politics, which is always eye opening when coming from someone outside of the USA or Canada. Apparently our super markets seem about 3 times bigger than the ones in Germany. Go USA! It was great to hear stuff about the club they have over there. I'm sure they're going to throw a smashing Worlds. Too bad the tickets cost about $1000. Yikes. I do want to go to Europe someday. But this year is not that day.

A few weeks ago I played with Stu in town. I don't remember if I wrote about that in here or not. He's a guy who showed up to the net park a long time ago and we found out that he goes to the high school that Nate Maertens (Dr. Ridiculous) teaches at, which is how he learned what he knows and where he found out about footbag.org. Anyway, I met Stu at a tennis court where most of the session was focused on him learning. From what I can remember, he can do tons of toe stalls (I counted 61 or so), he's working on getting better clippers, he can do an osis on both sides, and he can do mirages. He seems really into it. He lives almost exactly between Jeremy's house and mine, so it should be easy to make things work.

Jumping back to now-ish, last night I went to the gym and worked out a little bit. I was stupid and tried to do some leg stuff then play footbag afterwards. I was too tired, and it was 1:45am. So I did the least exhausting stuff I could think of. I did osis>osis x7 two different times, 18 flip in to out atw's, 2 strong (there's something horribly wrong with the way I do it, it shouldn't be this bad), and 8 net bag kicks in a row. :-) Today I went to Stanford because the work schedule worked out just right and there was no school for me. Sunday and today I did ripwalks both sides and feel like they need improvement but like they've definitely improved over the last few weeks. I like that. Um, what else... I've been trying to incorporate pixies and fairies but I can't. yuck. And I haven't been doing drifter stuff so I'm sure that's gone again. :P

Last night I started to write this post and I was falling asleep and accidentally unplugged my computer, so I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot about the last few days.

"Oh, what have I done
What happened to the morning
I passed the time away"

Edit: I forgot to mention that the reason I didn't work on Sat and Sunday is because we weren't allowed to open. So it wasn't like I didn't try.

Those are the ones. Yeah, Phillip is cool. The visit will be about two weeks for both of them, I think. Flo leaves on Thursday and Phillip on Monday. I think they were here because of The War of the World and because they were on holiday from school, so it just worked out well.

It's always good for me to see the Oakland crew and other serious net players. When I first found out about net, I got the impression that it was like a freestylers elephant cemetery.

Thank you for the compliment. :)

hahahah yeh i think that is something of a general impression in freestyle, of what net is about.
Believe it or not, I saw Phillip do a FREESTYLE routine at the French Opens in November last year! It was a strange experience...

Super long session with super cool Fletcher Funk.

I did 24 contacts of mirage>legover at the start
Clipper>9 osis 2 times.
Ripwalk>ripwalk
Ripwalk>ripwalk>far legover
Clipper>ss clip>ss butterfly>osis>clipper>ss butterfly>osis repeated once (meaning I did the same stuff on each side twice)
11 kicks with a net bag

I skooled flip whirl and it sucked so bad. so so so bad. Also worked on "strong" in to out atw. Shame, Emily... shame.

Fletcher is awesome. He encourages without being pushy, and he is so helpful. Tonight I saw the two best runs I've ever seen him hit. Good job, Fletcher!

And he kneed himself in the jaw.

Good picture!

I'm not sure that I'm really up for expanding on my bullet points here, so I'll just post what ever comes out. I'm really tired now, so I'm not going to grantee that the stuff under specific days is in the correct place or order. Whatever.

Friday:

I got up about 7am and left my house for the airport. On the way to Denver I had a layover in LA. Once there, I got walked up to the next terminal and saw Chad's smiling face. We sat in the same isle but on opposite sides. The flight went quickly and soon we were in Denver. There was plenty of time until the next bus to downtown, so we talked a lot about footbag, videos, and competition in general. I love hearing about how different experienced players feel about competition. We ate granola bars then watched the beautiful sunset.

We got to downtown and walked the eight blocks to the player's party, and surprise, there were people playing four square outside. :-) It's a good thing we were on the wrong side of the street... Chad. :-P

It was so nice walking in and seeing all of those familiar faces and getting so many hugs. :-) A while later, Val and Scott Davidson surprised everyone by walking in. We had no idea they were coming! It was fun seeing Brad Kaplan again. I completely forgot how tall he is. We had an entertaining conversation later in the night. :)

Saturday:

-Ashley, Sam, David and I playing in a circle outside
-Shreditas circle of 5: Ashley, Sunny, Amy, Val and me.
-Sam's #3 - about $3.00 each person at my table of Chad, Luis and Nelson
-Doubles four square - most people were pretty random teams --Team -Green with pose (and flip side) - Kevin Crowley and I
-Several people's suggestions on spinning - all given at once.
-Kicked with some beginning kickers and helped with clipper and toe stalls

Sunday:

I was in the Four Square competition. In the first round the three courts of players were to play until 11, then the finals would be played until 15 points. The two highest scores from each court would go to finals. I had 10 points for what felt like forever but kept getting out. I was actually really anxious. My heart was racing and I bet I didn't even look like I was enjoying myself. Daryl won with 11, but Sunny and I were tied with 10. We had to do sudden death. I ended up winning that because she did a bad kick which was just bad luck. I was relieved - I was scared because she's good.

Finals: I was playing against Peter Irish, Darly Genz, Steve Goldberg, Chad Devlahovich, and Tom Kotsakos. That's intimidating. I got to be server first because I was the weakest player, and I got seven points pretty quickly. But that's all I got. We played for first place and then kept going. I kept missing the bag on everything, by the time first place was decided I felt completely drained, so the rest of the game wasn't so great for me.

-"Is there anything you don't want?"
-Free rum and Cokes at manager's party
-Ken gave me an overview of the history of footbag which was really interesting. :)
-Walking Mike to train station and messed up security guard
-Walking on sunshine and liking the way you move

Monday:

-Jim and I cross training on the way to the egg place.
-The best strawberry banana smoothie I've ever had
-After that we went to a park where we kicked. I put on shorts and a tank top because it felt warmer than 70 degrees and it was so sunny. There was a squirrel tail on the ground in park.
-I had only hit two before, so when I hit Ripwalk>ripwalk>ripwalk the was like "YES!" and totally gave myself self props and forced props from those around me, haha.

-The bus to airport with Luis Monhollon, Nelson Monhollon, Lon Smith, and Joe Crain was really fun. We got there we shared nachos and a rocky table.

-After a funny mishap with a boarding pass... There was an epic moving sidewalk race with Joe that I won with a photo finish.

-When Chad and I were on the same flight to Denver, it was because he purchased a ticket on my flight on purpose. Being on the same flight as Lon and Joe from Denver to Phoenix was pure fluke. There were two seats on each side of the row. They were sitting next to each other, and I was across from them with no one besides me. We were good exit row passengers and did our research. Then we talked camping stories.

-The first 10 minutes of my flight from Phoenix to San Jose were funny. Lon and Joe had just been talking about their experiences sitting next to attractive women on planes and I said that I never had that experience with attractive guys. I was the last person to get on the plane because Joe, Lon and I were getting hacks. As I was getting on the plane I noticed that the back of the plane was almost completely empty so I walked back to ask the flight attendant if I could sit back there and she said it was fine. I sat down in a completely empty row with empty seats ahead and behind me. The flight attendant told me that the guys two rows were "really checking you out" with a big smile on her face, and I noticed them both looking back. I thought, "this is a nice way to start a flight" with a big smile on my face. This turned into the worst flight of my life. The take off was good, but when we were in the air we went through some storms that were knocking the big plane around like crazy. I don't remember thinking that I might throw up on a plane. And I was all alone where I was. Other people were uncomfortable too, no one made a sound for the next 30 minutes until after we landed. It was so scary, for a long time I couldn't see anything outside of my window but the other window was full of lights on the ground because we were turning for a long time. I regretted sitting in a place with no people near me. :-/ Landing was a very scary experience, and when we touched down only one of the tires made contact and we bounced off. Bad. We deplaned outside and ran through the hard rain inside. One of my bags' zippers came unzipped at some point during travel so when I picked it up at the baggage claim, I wasn't sure if anything was lost. It was still full of small stuff, so I don't think anything fell out. Then I walked outside to wait for the bus to where I had parked my car and I stepped in a puddle. It was deep enough that my entire Laver was soaked up to my lower ankle. Great. Bah. When I left Denver it was in the 70's and clear. It was hard coming back to my reality after that weekend.

Here's some random stuff:
-About 14 of us in one elevator - walked up so many flights as we were searching for the roof
-I owe Mike $40
-Chicago crew
-Awesome roomies every night
-Early wake up calls
-Perfect weather all weekend
-Full hacks everywhere: hotel hallways, venue, outside, in rooms, airport. :-)
-Warm tub and warm pool
-riding in Daryl's Van
-Gum pack kicked by Jim
-Zombie story several times
-Tomato juice on every flight
-Watching the end of an epic ceiling hack
-Justin dale and I got into a conversation about injuries and we figured out that we have the same type of back problem. It was amazing to find out how many specifics we had in common with our backs. Since he has more footbag and back injury experience, I asked him if he thought I should stop playing, and he said "NO. Just don't do torques."
-Breakfast+hotel staff+nice rooms= best footbag hotel ever, and of course it's going to be sold and under reconstruction next year. :P
-Made a lot of good connections
-Ricky Martin and Alanis Morrissette
-Everyone was injured - Mirken, Barnes, Kevin R., Jim and David
-Wish there could have been one on one time with some specific people, and more group time with other people.
-I hope to see all of the pictures since I didn't have a camera.
-Got TOT 1 and 2 from David
-David rescued my water bottle
-Poi with Sunny
-Weekend long "euphoria"
-Ashley said she came because of me :-)
-Big hello and goodbye hugs

I'm not going to say who I really liked hanging out with because there were so many peole I enjoyed meeting and hanging out with. All around great time.

Yesterday's Session:
Highlights from session with Fletcher and Jeremy at UCSC

15 strong mirages
13 flip mirages
8 flip ss butter
15 osis
25 drifter-style clippers

What were you thinking?! Back of the plane...It's so loud back there, and there's no windows to look out of (atleast that's how my plane was once). Looking out of a plane above the clouds makes me wanna jump out and bounce on them...

And none of those guys checking you out came to see if you were ok? psssh

Sounds like a completely shitty reality check after CSS... it sucks going away to somewhere so good then coming home to regular life, it was like that for me after my Europe trip... actually i think it still is! :?

When I was waiting for my luggage I saw those two guys who (from the front I realized) were like mid to late 30’s and at least one of them had a girl friend/wife because she met them there.
King Monkey wrote:Sounds like a completely shitty reality check after CSS...
Exactly.

On my flight back, I found out that the Cub Scouts offer a pin for Flying Disc Golf. Just thought I’d throw that out there. Maybe someone else needs a footbag mission. Right now I sure don’t.

A few things I thought I would share from experience that several people aren’t aware of:

1) When going through airport security, make sure your film in not 800 speed or it will be erased by going through the baggage x-ray. Be sure to check disposable cameras because from my experience, many of them are 800’s. If you have 800 speed, keep that with you and before going through the metal detector, hand it to the employee on the other side. They might swab the box for security reasons, but that will take 20 seconds and it’s worth it to know that your film wasn’t ruined.

2) When on an airplane, sometimes they’ll give you a small cup with a beverage in it. If you want the whole can, ask for tomato juice (or whatever) with no cup.

3) You don’t have to check out of the hotel unless you gave a cash deposit that you’ll need back. What are they going to do if you just leave? Charge the credit card that you used when you checked in. I’ve worked in hotels for years of my life and people would often leave without coming to the desk. This makes things easier if you leave early and the other people in your room are going to sleep in. Just leave the keys in the room.

4) Unless a hotel is busy the next day, they will usually give you a late check out if you ask for it in advance.

I’m going to be in the LA area (Pomona) on March 10, 11, and 12th. Duncan is having me demo footbag at a toy show. They just want tiltless stuff and for me to talk to people about the sport. On Sunday I know I won’t have time to hang out with anyone because I’m going to do the show then fly home, but on Friday I think I’m free in the late afternoon/evening, and Sat might be the same thing. But I still have to find out when they want me where so I can’t make concrete plans to hang out yet, but I would really love to see the kickers down there before I leave.

So today after I got off school and work, I was at home in my room when someone knocked on the door.

Me: "I'll be right there."
Them: *Riiiiiing, riiiiing, rrrriiiiing, rrrrriiiiiiiinnnnggg, knock knock knock*
Me: (A little annoyed since it had been FIVE seconds since the first knock) "Yes?"

There were two women who looked like they were in their early 20's.
Them: "Can I talk with your mom or dad?"
I just looked at them...
Me:"What is this about?"
Them: "Oh, I need to speak with someone over 18."
Me: "And how can I help you?"
Them: "You're over 18? Oh good, we are from the blah blah blah blach..."

And I didn't even hear what they had to say. I waited a few moments so I didn't have to interupt them to say that we weren't interested.

In a little over three months I'll be 22.
