Last Sunday weather ws beautiful. Reile and got to the park before everyone else. We sat and watched some ultimate frisbee before Twitch and his GF showed up. We set up the 4S court and people started to trickle in.
I played well for the first half of the session. As the day progressed, though, the lack of readily available water seemed to take its toll on everybody. There was a noticeable drop in energy among the players. I'm surprised we lasted as long we did. Someone was smart enough to bring plenty of bottled water for themselves. I think I did a good job of varying my shots. In particular, when my back was turned; "cannons" (similar to a sweep in Net-Thanks to Scot Hanson
), reverse cold shoulder, a couple body screens, and numerous blind, wide angled shots to near corners. There were some memorable shots too that landed millimeters past the line. It's hard to say if I'm getting better placement or just getting lucky.
Plenty of good rounds too. One of my favorites was when Reile, Tom and I volleyed back and forth numerous times with plenty of athletic saves, hard shots and each of us trying our hardest to get a kill. Reile was eventually relieved from king square with an ugly sole shove.
Cuba's been out the past few sessions. He all but disappeared for the past 2 years. His defense is still very solid. His lanky frame helps him send back just about every normal shot you give him. At one time he was returning a series of trick shots I threw at him. It took about 6 or seven exchanges to finally get the kill. He can be pretty good when he's focused. Tom seems to have figured him out though, he just tells Cuba he's going to be out, passes the footbag and sure enough, Cuba is killed
Ronnie has already drastically changed his game since we last played. He has become very aggressive at crossing the line. Too aggressive, actually. He was called for contact just about every other time he was near the bag. He just needs to be a little more selective of his opportunities and learn better control.
I think the player that was most impressive was Twitch (aka Tom P./Jewfro/Screech/Broccoli). He was always known to be a free point but was a completely different person on Sunday. He was returning shots with more frequency, digging short passes and landing some decent shots. He's somewhat comical to watch because of his funny mechanics when he kicks
