Alpine is a duck between uptime and downtime dexterities.

You hit atomic ducking osis. Props! :)

ohhh, ok.
(not a major complaint, but i wish a lot of trick-list videos didnt contradict each other...atomic osis is listed as flux on flipsider)

haha, if i bust anything there, im hoping for something slightly better...i know i can.

Language is living, and so words often take on new meanings over time. This is definitely true with footbag as well. The original definition of blurry was something like "any in-out dex immediately followed by another in-out dex," which meant moves like smear could be considered "blurry." The current, generally accepted definition of blurry is very different, generally summed up as "stepping paradox." Moves that are today considered blurry, like blurry grifter, wouldn't have been considered "blurry" under the original definition.

The word "alpine" was originally defined as "a duck between 2 dexes." Using that definition, only moves having 2 dexterities could be called alpine. But over time, the definition of "alpine" has become looser. I think the way most people would understand alpine today, would be: "a duck between the up and downtime components of a move."

Under the original definition, alpine fog would be hard to understand. Fog has 3 dexes, so where does the duck occur? Under the newer definition, it is clear (after the set, and before the downtime double dex), and conforms to common sense. Similarly, if somebody said they hit alpine dominatrix, you'd know straightaway what move is being described. Alpine spinning blender is gangsta party, despite there only being one dexterity.

As for flux, it was originally a downtime trick, but most people I know refer to crispy atomic osis as flux as well. Blur used to be a midtime trick (see Tricks of the Trade), but stepping pdx mirage is still blur.

When Peter said he hit "alpine flux," how many of you were genuinely confused? I knew straightaway what move he hit (atomic ducking osis), and I suspect most others did too. The reason we name concepts and moves is so that we all know what each other is talking about. As long as I know what somebody is talking about, I'm not overly fussed about how they express it.
