Tom, my brother probably will not be coming, if my dad wasnt going to let him go to harrisburg, i highly doubt he'll let him go to kingston. Toronto, maybe, if Glass happens again, because then my parents could be there and they would be ok with it if he stays with them at our condo.

It's sort of like saying, "Hey, everybody, yeah, you were right, footbag is a stupid stoner past time, carry on."

Can't you see some kid getting really into it and wanting to go play, but his mom is like, "Oh, no, Davey, they're into drugs, let's go." ? That'd be unfortunate.

And I'm not going to get over it. I don't have any problem with pot, but I'm tired of ignorant douches associating our sport with pot - and being sponsored by a head shop isn't really helping at all.

no, its not silly. its anti-progession and it goes against the notion of making it look like a sport, not a hippy pastime.

sponsors make a huge impact. when you have gatorade and powerbar behind you, im pretty sure people are more inclined to be like "hey, wow, theres something here!" If your sponsered by toys r us or some head shop, it doesn't look great, and it doesnt look serious.

this just breaks down to the idea that there are some (like stephen and myself) who want footbag to be recognized as a sport, and they people who play that sport as athletes. when you sponsor events with drug related places and you make "the keg" a big part of jams, that just proliferates the idea that footbag is a chill non-serious game. if thats what it is to you, cool, then carry on.

im not raining on your parade, and i think its awesome your hosting this jam, but being sponsered by a head shop just carries a negative conotation.

its not my jam, and i can't even go, so dont take this to heart.

i agree with this to a point. since 2 out of 6 of our sponsors at our tournament were head shops, i really don't want to bash on them. they were far more interested in sponsoring the event that any other group i spoke with. the fact that they sell bags (some have better stock than other ones) makes them an import part of spreading the word of foobag, like it or not. ask jorden where he bought his first footbag...

to the keg part i disagree. having been involved in other sports at national and international leves, i can say that EVERY ONE likes a nice party after it's all over. I have been to some really fun keggers after tournaments in other sports and they have almost always been pre announced. i don't believe that having a party afterwards to celebrate the event and to get every one in a more social atmosphere means that people will think less of the sport. what do you think happens during the closing ceremonies at the olympics? the atheletes party, and i don't think you can say that the olympic gold medalists don't deserve to either.

yeah lots and lots of the biggest sporting events in Australia are sponsored by alcohol companies.

Personally I think all sponsorship is good for the sport - even "bong shops". I think that if people have the attitude that footbag is "a stoner hippy game" then prove them wrong with your footbag abilities. If they see you busting hard they'll have a completely different perspective of footbag regardless of who is sponsoring you. I mean I wear a badge that says "I hate soccer" on it and still get countless people ask me if I play soccer - when people see you play footbag they lose focus of everything else because the stuff we do is completely incomprehensible to people who haven't seen it (and sometimes even to those who have).
