in the new set coming out... there's supposed to be all the old abilities:
they're bringing back threshold, flashback, flanking, fading, and shadow
new abilities will be split-second (uncounterable and avoids stack instant), and timespiral stuff taht remove cards for a couple turns then puts the in play- played from hand, never reaches play

So the newest Timespiral set is pretty cool. I've gotten myself a chance to draft recently and I've gotten a nice collection of the set now. Tom's got a sliver deck he's learning to play magic with. It's cute. I'm as stoked about him noticing nuances in card strategy as he is when I try playing footbag.
I recently found out girls play free at the local nerd shop. It's the bigger, nicer, less-b.o-ridden nerd shop so I think I'll attend again this weekend. I plan on playing a draft and winning as well as playing extended this weekend. I got the chance to size up my competition last weekend and I'm definitely stronger than they are in draft. If luck is also on my side, it's a winning combination. I'm pretty certain I'll win extended.
I've got this sapproling generating deck I've been playing recently with the new set's set of funguses. With some of my older cards thrown into the mix for extended, this deck has been super successful. Sapproling Burst is one of my favourite cards and I'm so excited that it has found a home again in this deck after I had disassembled the last deck it was in.
I'm procrastinating. Magic has been really fun with this new set again. Good job Wizards. Back to work for me.
BTW, I'm also looking for some sapproling makers or things that make use of sapprolings. I'm looking for 3 'Elvish Farmer' and 4 'Fungal Bloom'. Trades or offers for current card value welcome. I'm also interested in 'Paradox Haze' if anyone has extras from ripping a booster box recently.

paradox haze? i dont think that move exists... wait...what forum is this?
jokes!
i saw a card shop that sold MtG cards, but i've never played or seen anyone play, so i didnt go in...
edit-i realized i should edit this before someone mentions that paradox haze is actually fairly possible...
edit2-i love being a footbag nerd

I don't play magic online. I don't have an account. I like the tangible cards.
I traded for 3 paradox hazes recently, and I got all the elvish farmers that I need from someone who just gave them to me. They are only common afterall.
Right now, I'm just really looking for fungal blooms.
I got schooled in draft on Thursday. I came in 3rd. I got some good cards out of the draft nonetheless. I won the extended tournament today for a foil Wrath of God. Sweet.

I've been playing Planar Chaos draft today and OMG it's even better than Timespiral for draft. The gameplay for standard (type 2) is going to be completely different with this set.
Cards have been colour shifted left and right and there's even a BLACK wrath card called Damnation which I ripped a foil one of in my draft pack, but subsequently lost because I didn't come in first today.
I came in second though, and got a cool land that makes all your lands a swamp in addition to the land that it originally is.
Cabal coffers is back too, but in creature form.
The Fungii got a new colour (white) and a bunch of new abilities in this set too, as if Thallids weren't powerful enough in Timespiral. I'm so going to use and abuse sapprolings in this set.

I hate the new shit, seems like the company is just trying to raise eyebrows because they've got nothing better to do. As if we need another wrath of god in standard, most decks run 4 already. I just hope my group doesn't get their hands on damnation. It's hard enough to keep a single creature on the field long enough for it to attack even once.
And off color abilities?? Sure, a green lightning ball, red morphling, blue removal etc. It doesn't impress me; How about trying to make the colors do what their supposed to in the first place.
Those lamebrains at the gathering are always whining about the color pie chart and then justify any dumbass thing they do to it.
I'm really jaded about magic right now. I used to have so much fun playing and making/tweaking decks, but then all of a sudden the metagame within my group turned to shit. Mass removal, discard, cheap ass broken cards all over the place, and where's an honest deck maker like myself supposed to fit in?? Try to door to nothingness them?? Poison counters?? Squirrels? Birds?
At least my living end deck can hold up most times.
Well to be honest there is one card I'm happy about from the new set...Chromazoa! Totally kickass and it came just in time to rescue a deck I've been trying to make work for a loooong time, based off followed footsteps and paradox haze, all T2 of course.
But I've veered from my original course...SCREW all those fuckheads at magicthegathering, they're fucking wankers and they piss me off.
On a lighter note the artwork has never been better
Foil Damnation??? Damn that's a good pull, like THE pull from the set. Almost as good as foil Psionic Blast...

Chromazoa is the shit! I've got my hands on two as of right now and I'll probably be getting 2 more when the set gets released.
Anyway, you shouldn't be bitter about mass removal and whatnot. It's not really worth it. There's so many possibilities for decks to win. This set just opens up even more possibilities. Discard is pretty hard to play against, but shouldn't be devastating if you sideboard right. Learn to sideboard better and you will have more fun playing standard. I just built myself a budget T2 deck with pandemonium and norin the wary.
Wrath can't touch norin.
Although I must admit, I'm getting sick of playing Aggro and Borros deck wins. I wish people would be more creative and not play decks they copy directly off the internet. Then that just becomes a matter of money. Hence why I'm excited about the colour shift for new metagaming.
My Pandemonium/Norin deck has fared really well against both aggro and borros. I've been able to hold off dragon storm and bloodmoon is a killer sideboard card against the retardedness that is the non-basic-land packers. Kindle the carnage is my sideboard against borros deck wins. The other stuff I can hold off with counterspells.
There's other ways to win you know. I'm in the process of building a cerebral vortex/tefari's puzzle box deck for standard.
Who needs to attack? If wrath is what you're worried about, then play non-creature. None of the decks I'm sustaining right now use attacking/dealing damage as their way of winning.
Good luck! Enjoy the new set! Play draft to get the rares you need for your decks. Draft is my fav. format.

I've got a few people interested in some Magic games at Worlds. I am willing to bring a few decks for some casual games during downtime at worlds. Casual magic should entail no power nines.
Those interested and bringing decks so far are:
Me
Tom Mosher (I'm signing you up baby. You can't say no. You're a dork inside)
James McCullough
Brian (Brinard)
Anyone else?
If you know how to play, but don't have a deck of your own anymore, I can bring a few spares so people can all join in. Matt Cross, that's looking at you!

That sounds like a good idea. Burning their cards, I mean.

I'm pretty into the nerdy stuff, sometimes. But not even I have ever been a big enough geek to get into Magic the Gathering. Back in 7th grade.. anytime I heard someone talking about how they've got this new amazing ability to do something in a game, or how they just spend $50 on new cards, I just felt this massive urge to smack them in the face, very hard. Or if I ever (to this day still) hear someone talking about how insanely strong Goku is on Dragon Ball Z, I feel like smacking them in the face, with a tire iron. It's not... real. It is a cartoon. He can't really flick his finger at the ground, and blow the planet up. I honestly think, some people, can't grasp that fact, that these games, and shows, are not real.
Not so much an anti-magic person anymore though. Which is probably better for my health. Probably raised my blood pressure to dangers heights in 7th grade, talking about how much I hated Nick Gosen, that little dumbass. Graduated with a 3.8 GPA, now he's failing his college classes, ha ha.
When I think Magic the Gathering, I think Pokemon too... And Yugioh.
