I've been meaning to tell everyone about this, and trust me it makes all the tricks and links of your dream come true. I think Steve is going to be mad about releasing the secret to footbag.... HURRY BUY IT BEFORE IT RUNS OUT!

So far all my sessions have been complete and utter failures, but maybe some saving grace.

I've been watching Anz's trick tip videos constantly and trying to understand concepts better. But the thing is I don't see concepts when watching all that well. The parts that help the most are the verbal tips.

So with my flip stepping set, I managed to get flip Ripwalk some four times in a row. They all felt strong, and I wasn't off balance like I normally am with them. Problem was I forgot after promptly doing them, which was awesome.

Been trying to pay attention to my flipside a lot more, been drilling the following (flip just incase).

-Toe
-Around the World (both directions)
-Ripwalk
-Blur (haven't hit yet)
-Toe Whirl
-Whirl
-Spinning (haven't hit yet)

Also I think the best part of the session was my first Pixie, and promptly following that my first Smear. Then I promptly forgot how to do it (granted they were sloppy, but haven't really tried them before).

Finally got back from Houston and kicked with Stanford yesterday!

Quick run downs

-No new members that I know of hopefully that changes
-Marc is back for the school year and kicking
-Lot of people improved

-Came down 10-10 with Steve but we had to win by 2. So that was the closest I ever came to him taking it easy on me .

-Hit Flail for the first time (Strong side, now for flipside)
-Flip toe whirls feel better
-Flip Ripwalks suddenly don't feel as strong or even there

-I think Jeff showed me one of his newer moves from when I last saw him, Toe SS Double Down????? (I'm bad with footbag moves as I haven't learned most of them by name yet)

Man I keep getting lazy and this blog keeps gathering dust.

Well so far I've been finding the inspiration to drill solo, and I think its from all the footage I have been editing!

Anyways I'm just going to make an announcement.

I plan on bringing roughly thirty teaser footbag DVDs. As of right now I have finished editing an eight minutes of the DVD. I plan on having it to be about thirty plus minutes so it'll be worth something.

This is going to be a test run of how well people like it, and I'm going to leave my email address asking if they think its going to be worth it. Of course I want people to be honest, and if they say its the worth thing ever I won't take offense to it. (well I'll try not to )

I'm probably going to sell these at ten U.S. dollars a piece. If interested please PM me if you want me to reserve you one. For New Years Jam 08 or the Las Vegas Jam 09. So far thirty are planned for New Years Jam 08 alone. Also, if I do end up selling the demo copies, and end up selling a fully completed version I'll knock off whatever you paid for it. I don't see any use in someone paying more than they should.

Eric and Austen are new additions to our club, and have been kicking for the last three plus sessions. So its pretty fun to see new people there and both are learning at a good pace. So if they're reading this, WELCOME TO THE CLUB!.

Update:
It was Steve's birthday a while ago, and I was wondering what to get him. So I ended up just getting him a silly birthday card making fun of his age. I managed to get most of Stanford to sign it without him knowing. We then ate at his place with some epic food that his chef made. I had a cold so I couldn't taste the chicken something noodles, but the salad was so epic that I was able to taste it. Needless to say we ate like pigs. Oink Oink. Oh yeah and Peter didn't even come over to say Happy Birthday to Steve

By the way, for those of you wondering, Steve is now 21 years old!

Eric and Austen are learning at a fast pace though. Already Austen is hitting mirages/legovers and Eric has an amazing clipper already very strong and very very smooth. Be awesome if both of them became inspire and kept playing. I'm hoping especially with Eric, lots of potential there!

Everyone is learning new tricks, or doing just drilling to get their tricks dialed. Too much to post and I've forgotten most of the crazy things they've done already

Myself:

Working on
-Flip toe (neglected and its so much better already)
-Flip Clipper (so I can hit my tricks with better ease and flowiness)
-Illusion (are so-so) Paradox are the So gotta work the muscles to get used to it and hit it faster!
-Flip Paradox Whirl (due to a bad flip clipper its so hard/ugly)
-Symposium Whirl (oddly enough I used to be able to do it but do to not, I can't now, so we gotta fix that!)

Dec. 26th
Left early to pick up Henry, and it was nice to meet him since the last 2 or so hours of just chatting and trading stories. Lots of laughs as we chuckled over silly things that footbag brings. I was sorry to hear that he had been hurt and hadn't kicked all that much.

The GPS got us to the Hyatt pretty easy, we checked in and then soon were on our way to grab Zac Miley. It was nice to see him again as we had became friends from the massive road trip (3.8k miles) to the US Opens (write up later). After that Henry, Zac and myself made it to Dunken Doughnuts and grabbed a few doughnuts, and Henry paid for mine as way of saying thank you.

Finally we reached the Hyatt and then they watched my DVD, which inspired us to kick. Henry showed a lot of good tricks, that impressed me even though he felt otherwise. But really to be honest the fact he hadn't really played in a whole year, I think he was good. I forget if I did anything good. Zac is always impressive with his fast style, and how well he is on his toes (trying to be on my toes more too). Steve came with Dave, and as usually it was good to see him again

I'll post more, I think so far its just been boring stuff to type for the sake of me being bored -more later-

so, im wondering how long the stanford shred crew will be around? like, where is everyone going to be next year?

theres like a 10 percent chance that i want to go to ucsc next year, and thus be part of your guys' crew. who would still be there?

Stanford is I believe the oldest running footbag club right now so chances are there will still be people there.

I know for a fact we have roughly three people FROM Stanford so its still good so long they don't graduate too fast.
Marc, Eric(not me), and I forgot the other guy -will remember-

Peter, Jeff, and Alex are about to leave highschool so its kind of up for grabs where they will be attending.

Dustin, and Abram Santana have moved to Santa Cruz for school, but during the summer and breaks they usually come up to kick.

Myself is pending as I might land a job with a film crew so I'd leave California all together, but I'd come back after it was over.

On another note, Emily mentioned there were a few kids asking about footbag in the San Jose area. So I have to contact her, and get them to come down to Stanford.

Well packing to come back home to California, but not sure if I am looking forward to staying there as much as I used to. I don't know just need to find a place I fit in well. The majority of Cali seem to be full of themselves at times. Not to mention I've never been so stereotyped for my race anywhere else. Which is saying a lot since I was 1 of 3 Chinese kids and like 1 of 20 or soo in a my high school of roughly 1,400+ students.

Well I guess if I really wanted to dig everyone of my friends called me "Chang" but I never was offended over that, in fact prefer being called Chang .

Not to mention kind of at a loss of where I should be going, which is normal but you kind of feel pressured to know where you are going in life at such a young age. Alright maybe I am not that young anymore, but still I think everyone flows differently in what they find for themselves.

NYJ Quick run down

Intermediate Circles:
Managed to place in the Intermediate Circle Finals, and was really proud since Mathieu Giard (typo?) was a much better player than myself. I was bracing myself to be beaten. But I knew if he made one mistake, and I kept myself at good level of play, I felt I might have been able to one up him. In the long run I did, and we both chatted and congratulated each other. I think it was the pressure (we both put pressure on ourselves), that prevented him from trouncing myself.

So in the final circle it was Eoghan, Mr. Bear, Alex D, and myself and well it was in that order we placed too. I was really proud of this placing almost as much as my third place for the Intermediate Shred30 at the US Opens.

Sick 3:
I placed 4/8 or 4/7 only because I hit my link Ducking Osis > walkover > Eggbeater

Hotel Room:
People who stayed in my room: Waylon Lew, Robert Creel, Jack Stutler, Erik Chan, and myself. We really didn't hang or do much other than talk or kind of meander about.

However I did get a chance to talk with Erik Chan more so and got a bunch of good laughs. I must say the best thing about Erik, is his smile. So ... so real and it always makes me want to smile

Waylon Lew has this amazing talent/skill of knowing what footbag was made where, and usually only needs the region the bag came from if he doesn't get it. Though he never got a bag wrong so far, simply very epic. Though I take it he didn't like me all that much, but I dunno sometimes I can rub off the wrong way for some people.

Nice to see Rob again, and never really got a chance to talk to Jack, but he did get me a littlesick THANKS A LOT MOFO (joking).

Reunion:

Joshua Raye: Man he looks so different with the beard , and I still hate the smell of his Clima Cools. But other than that, always a good friend and a good guy. I really wished I had the chance to chill, and film him more.

Steve Goldberg: Well I see him all the time but I had not been in California for two weeks or so, so I didn't get to chill with my mentor <3. But he's always been a great guy and always doing more than he should for me (some day I'll pay him back with a G15 personal jetplane:-p). Steve even loaned me ANOTHER one of his cameras the JVC GZ-HD7u HDD HD camera. It was a blast to use, and really is going to make the footage fun.

Zac Miley: The road trip brother who went 3.8k with me (blog US Open later). Awesome to see him again, and I didn't get to kick all that much with him. But apparently I've improved so that means a lot to me. Zac has improved a lot, and maybe a little more consistent and then I suggest people watch the fuck out. He is just such a fast player and I love his shuffle runs, just Miley style. COMEON ZAC first man to hit a 6 dex is yooooooooooooooooooooooooou (okay maybe not but I can joke)

Jay Boychuck: I first met Jay at Worlds 07 in the morning before Intermediate routines went up. When I say in the morning I mean in the morning waaaay before routines went up. Then Worlds 08 we became good friends and I think bribing him for PB&J always helps . I simply love his atomics, and toe game (not saying his clipper is bad) just enjoy it a lot. Watch out for this kid, when he stops being super hard on himself and realize he's a good player. He's going to bloom into a purdy butterfly . Can not wait to see him again at Las Vegas.

So I tried pushing myself to the limit, and the result was me swearing a lot more, breaking my glasses in frustration from throwing them and being really pissed off for sucking. Its been four years and I couldn't hit four tripless if my life depended on it.

Still haven't hit blazing mirage after two months of footing it

My strong side paradox mirage/ paradox symposium mirage actually got worse.

Can't hit drifters still

Can't spin

and my drilling sucks.

When ever we do circle of drills, I'm the only one that has to sit out due to my inability to actually be good.

Really thinking that if footbag isn't fun for me and that I'll never be good I really don't see a point in being in the sport.

Not to mention I'm tempted to toss my DVD project. I'm not a big name so its not going to sell expect through my friends. Plus I lack the editing/filming skills of the bigger names. I've gotten the dislikes and I feel like I'd be ripping people off.

I'll try again Thursday but its just going to be shitty.

honestly to me, if you stayed in the community simply for your video making skills, i think it would be worth it. i hoenstly think your a great film maker, and really enjoyed the preview dvd yogan brought back from nyj. who could capture true footbag better than an average palyer like yourself? not to mention all the great times you have at tournaments, even if you suck at everything footbag. there are days when you feel like nothings good, i have them all the time. just hold out for the session that everything feels good, and your happy. footbag makes great friends, which i think is more than enough.

You want an honest opinion? You need to forget about blazing or anything tripless or even guiltless. Forget drifters, pdx mirages, and spinning. You need to school your tiltless. You should be able to hit 30+ mirages, legovers, illusions, pickups, clippers on both sides, every which way possible, before you move to BOPs.

You need to get more consistent. Then footbag will be fun. It's gonna be boring drilling that stuff, but it's necessary. Keep your records for each trick and try and beat those records every session.

You have to practice alone if you want to get better. You can't just meet up with the Stanford crew once or twice a week and think you'll have decent progression.

You can do it, you just need the desire.
