Yesterday was footbag day at Spanish camp! Seriously, footbag, Spanish, AND playing with little kids. Could a day at work can get any better than that? All the kids really like watching the video (Rory's video of Ken and 33 feet for the net) and watching me play. Even after seeing the videos of really good people, they said I was the best footbagger ever. It melted my heart

The older kids loved 4-square. They played at recess and lunch. The middle kids weren't really interested in playing and the younger kids loved playing even though they couldn't do it very well. A couple of the older kids asked me to teach them how to stall and asked for websites about footbag. Maybe they will be the start of a Sonoma scene!

Even though I said I wasn't going to play this week, I was too anxious not to play! But it's great that I did because my session kicked ass. Had decent strings, worked on putting harder moves together. But what really made it awesome is that I hit parkwalk a couple of more times, footed ripwalk a few times and hit a new move. Finally hit dimwalk. That is two 4-add moves learned in a week! I am so stoked.

I am feelin' this pixie thing. Need to start workin' it on my flipside.

There is this amazing song at the beginning of The Champioins League. After 2 years or so, I finally found out it is "Something going on" by Bombfunk MC feat. Jessica Folker. Check it out if you don't remember it...

You posted in my blog so I thought I'd do the same for you.

You were really fun to yell at (it was bootcamp) on Saturday. It's fun being around someone like you who wants to soak up suggestions. It's hard to change the style of a trick you've already got down, so you get extra credit for working on that. Keep trying the stuff I suggested. That way, when you are busting big I can take credit for it.

Went to Steve's house again on Saturday where I attended Emily Kulczyk's footbagging boot-camp. She gave me tons of useful advice on how to make my moves more fine-tuned. She also made me cry with her drill sergeant-esque ability to yell and push you physically until your body collapses under the stress. It was intense...

Two kids from Spanish camp came back from the weekend with footbags they had bought from a sports store. Many of the kids have played 4-square everyday since Thursday. I gave two of my freedom bags away to kids that are interested in it. Then today one of the kids that bought a bag over the weekend came in and showed me his new freedom bag he bought and was carrying around that pamphlet with Jim Penske that Freedom Footbags hands out. He isn't too bad either. He practices his stalls everyday and has done an ATW. All this is so freaking cool.

I hope that at least a couple of them stick with it for awhile. It is really too bad I am leaving Friday because it would be awesome to help them along. If that one kid who is really into it sticks with it for a month or so, I am going to send him my Gravity Man DVD, because it would be way more useful for him.

I am having trouble sleeping, so thought I would do a blog entry

I am home from California. Left Friday night to get to NYC Saturday morning for the NYFA tourney. The west coast is really awesome and it was great to have the opportunity to meet so many awesome west coast players, but the east coast scene is definitely home.

The NYFA tourney was a good time. Definitely a fantastic homecoming event. Although I didn't really get to play much as I was completely exhausted from a red-eye flight that I didn't sleep on. Here is a review of the flight: baby screams the entire trip, the plane is freezing, the woman sitting next to me stretches into my seat while she was sleeping, same woman spills water all over me so that I was cold and wet for the entire trip. I was a tad bitter.

I got to NYC with the plan to get to the sight and take a nap, but I didn't get to sleep until 2am Sunday morning (that's 46 hours without sleep...).

Unfortunately, I spent most of the event in a total daze, but here are my highlights:

~Ken's ass kicking performance in all of the events
~Getting back the all pink Freedom bag that Barrett and I have joint custody of
~Hitting drifter for the first time (after footing it what felt like 100 times)
~Being pleasantly surprised at the number of shreditas that came out (6 I think?)

As soon as I find the chord that attaches my camera to my computer, I am going to post some pics from my time in Cali.

Played for 2 hours on Tuesday and 1 hour today. Spent both times drilling. Drilling downtime illusions, downtime legovers, pixies, osi. Made drills out of the tricks I can do and just drilled and drilled. Because I am really starting to take footbag more seriously than I ever have, I am trying to make sure I have my basics down really well.

Later today I am going to see The Dark Knight. This is the first time I am excited to see a super-hero movie because the part of the Joker looks amazing (and no, it's not just because Heath Ledger is a babe). Hopefully I can get in 1 more session before I go...

Played footbag everyday for the past 2 weeks except for Tuesday.

Biggest personal highlights:
~DLO from butterfly and pixie legover from legover from something else (first time doing double dexes from another move)
~Flipside paradox mirage then paradox mirage bsos
~Best set of infinities ever, no planting (I wasn't counting because I expected to drop them but I would say at least 7)

Played a bunch with Ken and a bit with Vince. Ken's routine is so solid. I really hope he does well at Worlds.

Gave my little brother a ride to Bethlehem, PA today. Met up with Dave to play since I happened to be in town. It was a pretty good sesh. He showed me more card tricks, which is pretty much the highlight of my day every time he does them. Although it was possibly tied with the very unique shred Dave was doing today. Or maybe his mom's awesome cooking.

I have had a terrible time with losing things lately. I lost my ipod and speakers, which I am really pissed about. I also lost the cable that hooks up my camera to my computer, so I haven't been able to load any of my pictures from Cali... until now. I got a new one off Ebay and it came today. So tomorrow I am probably going to post a ridiculous amount of pics/videos to my blog.

But for now I am exhausted and am going to sleep

Had a long solo session today. Almost 2 hours. Nothing of particular note. Just schooled. A few decently long runs. Osis was more consistent, hitting it maybe 7/10 times. Practiced flip pixie, which wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be. Came really close to hitting a quantum legover. It is about time I learn a quantum move, because I have been doing quasi-quantums since I learned mirage.

Speaking of quantums, I indulged myself and bought a pair. I probably shouldn't have, but any shred shoe is really hard for me to find because of my size and apparently Adidas isn't making any more Lavers at the moment (according to the Adidas store in my town). The Quantums were a tad cheaper because of the pre-sale and I am eventually going to need another pair of shoes, so I got them. One last indulgence before I crack down on my spending when grad school starts.

Today was such a beautiful day! It wasn't too humid (which is unusual for Maryland in summer) and breezy.

I had considered taking a break today, but it was just too beautiful not to go out and play. Played for about an hour and a half. Practiced osis and downtime illusion more. The most exciting part for me was that I finally learned how to do knee kicks. I don't know why, but I could never do them. They would always fly off to the side. So I am pretty excited about that!

I played again with Vince's around 9pm, but I didn't last too long because I was already sore from the first session. Then I tried doing symposiums which made my shins hurt badly and pulled my groin. Not a good end to the night. I am definitely taking the day off tomorrow.

I cooked meat tonight for the first time in a long time. I usually don't eat meat, but I was cooking for my parents so I made some chicken. It was disgusting. I never thought I would get to the day where touching raw meat would gross me out, but that day has come...

I need advice on my downtime illusions. Anyone got any?

Well... try doing same side illusions. It'll force you to actually do it downtime. Also try setting a little lower, you're really pushing yourself to dex to the bag rather high.
