Yeah, twisted metal is a terrible game. Sorry about that experience.

Lavers are generally fairly narrow, but I have a hefty friend (with wide, flat feet) who bought some lavers and they didn't snap his feet in half or anything. They also make wide sizes, but I think those are a little difficult to find.

the thread poses a question:

"why lavers?"

So, new comer, what's your answer to that question now that we've talked about it?

why do you think people use lavers and what do you think about people using them?

I love messing with people like that, that's one of the best things ever :P

And Magus, If you buy them and don't like them for freestyling (which it would be absurd for you not to fall in love from first slip of the foot inside the warmth of the luxurious footwear), then at least they're still stylish as hell 8)

I'm fairly certain that EVERYONE will inevitably miss out on a lot of experiences in life regardless of one's attitude simply because of the sheer number of things there are to do in life, different cultures, and different personalities. I'm sure I'll never know what it's like to live in a desert and blow myself up, and I'll never know the taste of a bull's nuts either, but I'm perfectly happy without those experiences.

I could flame, but, being able to post a witty response on a message board doesn't mean you actually know anything that you're talking about.

You're going to miss out on a lot of good things in life because of your silly fears. Having one experience (buying Twisted Metal 3 and disliking it, oh boo hoo) and limiting a whole world of experiences based on that is one of the most foolish things I've heard in a while. But whatever, you want to live your life like that, its your business.

This has nothing to do with "fear." First of all, it was more than one experience. That just happens to be one of the most memorable ones because I'm a big videogame nerd. Secondly, I don't care how foolish you think I am. I'm not gonna go buy something just cuz some people on a forum tell me to. Before I buy something, I'm gonna try it out. Why does it matter to you whether or not I go and buy these shoes in the first place?

Let's analyze this, shall we? I could buy the shoes, and they could either not fit, or I just don't like them at all for whatever reason, and then my money is wasted, and I'm unhappy as a result.

OR... I could try them out first and find out if I like them/if they're worth the money to me or not. If I like them, I spend the money, and I'm happy. If I don't like them, I don't spend the money. Either way, I'm still happy because I haven't wasted money on something. There is no potentially negative outcome from the 2nd scenario... But for some reason, according to you, I'm a fool for choosing it... So making absolutely sure that I am NOT wasting money is "foolish" to you?? Seriously? Are you retarded or something?

You're the one who is broadcasting all this ignorant foolish bullshit. You're the one who chose to start a thread under the pretense of asking a question about something you'd already clearly made your mind up on. You're the one who thinks you know better than everyone else, even though you have no experience with what you're talking about. You're the one who should really title this thread "I don't care what anyone else thinks, I am not going to buy lavers." You're the one who, rather than trying to be open to potentially great new experiences, is sitting inside on the internet arguing with strangers about why he shouldn't be open to new experiences. So don't be surprised when people respond to what you're putting out.

Like I said before, I don't care what you do, its your life & its your business. Keep on being a shithead. The world won't notice another one.

EDIT:

Um, didn't someone in this thread JUST SAY that there are places where you can return the shoes if you don't like them? Yet you still had some silly ass excuse why that wasn't good enough for you.

You are clearly socially retarded. Wasting money is not the worst thing that can happen. Being afraid to try things where you can't control the outcome is incredibly foolish. Being afraid to try things because they can't live up to whatever standards you dreamed up, is incredibly foolish.

Whatever dude, I'm done being trolled. Enjoy your cape. Enjoy thinking you've got an answer for everything, when all you've got are defense mechanisms.

Hey asshat, I didn't say I absolutely will not buy lavers. I wanted to know why everyone thought they're so great. I haven't made up my mind yet because I haven't yet tried them out. How hard of a concept is that to understand?

I never once said I shouldn't be open to new experiences... I said I'm not paying for something I haven't tried... They are two very different things. You're the one putting words in my mouth. And if you don't care how I live my life then shut your ass and stay the hell out of my thread. If you didn't care, you wouldn't have tried to tell me that you think I've made a bad decision.

YOU'RE the one talking about shit you don't know. For your information, sometime soon I'm getting together with Zach Hoffa and Slick Nick so I can see what difference the shoes make and try them for myself. Until then, I'm not fuckin buying them, end of story. Stop trying to shove these shoes down my throat.

Did I ever say wasting money is the worst thing that could happen? No. Did I ever say that I won't do anything that I can't have complete control over? No. That would be retarded, because nobody really has control over anything.

Yeah, I can return the shoes... BUT I STILL HAVE TO HAVE THE MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE, AND I DON'T. Now I'm "socially retarded" because I'm not gonna buy something I can't afford? Suck my balls, and don't fuckin talk to me. You're a moron.

"Um, didn't someone in this thread JUST SAY that there are places where you can return the shoes if you don't like them? Yet you still had some silly ass excuse why that wasn't good enough for you. "

^ a direct quote from your post ^

I stated in response to the post you were referring to that I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY THE SHOES. According to you, that's a "SILLY ASS EXCUSE." But YOU are trying to call ME retarded...

How the hell did I miss this thread? Oh yeah - I have a full time job... damnit!!!!

First off I LOVE this kid! Dude you are 1 of a kind among many 1 of a kinds.

Secondly, shame on the snobs, and hell YES you are being snobbish. I didn't realize how true that was until I stopped competing and starting playing for fun. I mean really playing for fun. Which means no guiltless, cross talk during shred, and just passing time. The snobbishness (and yes that is a word!) comes from the eliteness (not a word) needed to play at an OPEN level. This guy doesn't play on that level nor does he strive too. So maybe your answer should be, "Hey dude, I want to win and Lavers allow me to do that."

I'll give you a constructive and honest opinion of each shoe that I have played in and the Pros and Cons. You can use this data however you want, just don't call me a snob... I got my power glove on as I am typing (I got your back).

I am also a heavier player who has played seriously and snobbishly over the years. Here is the break down by how well they play:

1.) Rod Laver

Why? Light shoe. Thin materials make feeling the footbag with your actual foot easier. When you get past the kicks of hacky sack and into the stalls of freestyle, control of the bag becomes an immediate issue. You want a shoe that allows you to FEEL the bag so that your timing can be performed properly. Lavers also have a curved inside surface that allows for a well performed clipper stall. It is this shape alone that defines any shoe as playable or not for footbag freestyle.

Cons: Are very stiff out of the box and require some break in to become flexible enough for freestyle. Again I say freestyle. You can do basic kicks with any shoe, but stalls require some extra attention. I also think Lavers have a slick bottom that makes them suck for indoor play on a hard wood floor.

2.) G Units

Why? Stability. As a heavier player I need support to cushion my large ass frame. These shoes provide that kind of support. The mods required for this shoe give it an advantage that is 80% better than most other modded shoes. Because G Units are Leather and padded (probably more than your Vans), once that leather is cut away, a nice pocket is made for both the inside surface and the toe box. These are the ultimate CHEATER shoes, if you want to call them that. You can be off up to 30 degrees on a clipper and still stall the bag.

Cons: Extremely difficult to play in without mods. Require the most mods to play in. Require an advanced game in order to benefit from the shoe at all. I do not recommend these to noobs ever.

3.) Nucleaus

Why? Ready to go right out of the box. You can lace them and go. The toe box and clipper surfaces have already been factory modded specifically for freestyle.

Cons: Clipper surface does not stop a rolling footbag as well as Lavers, so proper form is needed to perform certain clipper tricks like Osis. I recommend these shoes for noobs because they force proper form. I have seen hacky sackers go from ok to pulling spins and ducks within months of using nucleus.

4.) Quantums

Why? Lighter version of a Laver.

Cons: Shotty construction. They fall apart easily. Not stable enough for heavier players like me. The upper is too flexible, making it easy for a heavy player to step through the side of the shoe and twist an ankle.

5.) Climacools

Why? Jason Crook, enough said!

Cons: They are running shoes and require perfect form. I do not recommend these to anyone who is not planning to be #1 one day and plays with the best form ever!

6.) Vans / Converse

Why? Availability. You can find these shoes everywhere. They can be modded for freestyle just like any shoe.

Cons: Toe cap makes toe stalls roll off. The inside surface has no curved area, making clipper tricks more difficult to pull off. Cannot feel the bag through them. I do not recommend these ever!

Flex, I would not call you a snob because you have not yet acted like one. I call 'em as I see 'em. Thank you for actually understanding how someone can do something casually for fun and not striving to be the best and for not looking down on me just because I'm relatively new to the sport and the forum.

Thank you for your constructive answer and not trying to shove the shoes down my throat like so many others. However, I want to point out that I have no problem doing a toe stall with my vans or my converse shoes. A clipper stall is another story, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I'm new to this and would have no idea what "proper" form is for doing it in the first place than it has to do with what shoes I'm wearing. I have a friend who can do clipper stalls just fine with skater shoes. He also does a lot of odd unconventional tricks that the snobs would probably talk down on him for doing, like catching the footbag in his mouth or behind his knee, between his calf and thigh. While that's probably not incredibly impressive, it doesn't matter because it was never supposed to be. We do it for fun, and we do odd things to make each other laugh. This is not about a competition. It's not about points. It's not about seeing who can do the most complicated trick. It's about FUN and nothing more.

My roommate and best friend is Jason Crook. He plays in Climas and now in Nucleus when he plays.

Ianek, a VERY good freestyler recently visited my home and Jason watched us play. He stepped into the circle bare foot, hit 2 ATWs and a legover, then stepped out and said, "There's my game for today!"

You are correct - it doesn't matter :D

Snobs = Lavers :lol:

Actually you pointed out something that generally leads most newbies to eventually buy Lavers.

CLIPPERS! Clippers are way easier in Lavers as a newbie than any shoe, magnet, stick of gum, duct tape, or even holding it there with your hand. LOL

I have found that you can freestyle in any shoe, you can have fun in any shoe. But if you want to have more fun doing more stuff, then make it easier on yourself and get a shoe that does that job for you. Lavers!

I think that alone is what the snobs are referring to and sticking so close to their hearts. After all they love this shit so much that they are willing to get absolutely aggravated to no end just to talk footbag. That's some love!

Hey man, just chiming in on what has already been said...

You know what your motives are for playing this game. Everyone has a different reason/way of playing... and it's all about what makes you happy. If you're happy with the shoes you have, then enough said. But if you ever come across the curiosity to try new things, there is a wide variety of footbag shoes to pick from... all different prices and styles and effect the style of your play.

The thing is... everyone is saying the same thing (more or less). You got the answer to your "why lavers" question. You don't have to buy Lavers/Climas/Goonits/Quantums/Nucleus but now you know what the attributes and pros/cons are to each one.

Ps. If you're not doing this sport for fun, then what would be the point? I think it's safe to say that everyone is playing this sport for the fun of it... they just might find different parts more fun than others (ie. circle kicking vs. competition).

or behind his knee, between his calf and thigh.
This is called a pincher (don't know if it is renamed with Ianek's system) and a lot of people love combining this with other tricks and having fun with it. I think they're styley

That may be what they meant, but it's not what they said. I'm supposedly going to suck at footbag forever unless I wear lavers, and I don't belong posting here for the same reason. I also got others trying to shove the shoes down my goddamn throat after I said I might consider buying them after trying them out first cuz apparently trying something before buying it is "socially retarded." There are some decent people here, but holy shit, the rest are ten times worse than anything I've seen in the airsoft community.

There is no need to continue posting in this topic. The question has been answered multiple times. Someone lock this damn thing.

I agree, Please nobody else post after this. Read 10 previous posts and you will notice that its full of people putting words in other people's mouths and misunderstandings. Its not even about the shoes anymore In my opinion.

And I don't think any of this snob/going to suck/belong posting here was intentional Magnus, because even the people who said it i know are awesome people. Sorry this thread went to hell and back twice. better luck next time!
