I smoke pretty much every day out of the week with all of my friends. Sometimes I have ganj, sometimes not, but I still get high pretty much every day. Footbag events/sessions are guaranteed to keep me stoned throughout the time.

Smoke methamphetimine - it gives you heaps of energy and you can stay up for long periods of time so you can shred, shred, shred!

Plus there is a special bond between passing the crack pipe around, mainly because they are so addicted to the meth that they will suck your dick for a toke

If that bond does not exist without intoxication, then I don't see how it could anything but superficial.

I'm not really trying to argue either. I just wanted to emphasize that I think you could probably get a lot more out of your relationships if they weren't dependant on smoking.

Not only out of relationships but out of life in general. I think it's a sad but true stigma that drug abusers carry with them, and that is of a loser.
Someone who spends most of their money on the habbit, drops out of school to do it (or because of braincell loss?) screw up relationships with the oposite sex because of the addiction, lose their jobs because of it.

I know that doesn't apply to everyone who smokes but I believe that's what they are heading for when they start.

I am strongly aposed to drug abuse incase that isn't clear by now ;)

Also, I don't think this is true. I know many many perfectly intelegant people who can not tell the differance between footbag and hacky and I have to tell them what it is. There are many many perfectly stupid people who i'm sure are even worse at spotting the differance.

I think that you're definitely overgeneralizing and stereotyping quite a bit there.

I just needed to comment on the "not equal to" thing because I hope I never see that on this forum again 8O - people use that kind of stuff on my brothers computer game forums...

I think it should be added that while drug abuse is a bad thing - on the other side of the coin, many responsible people use all kinds of drugs - including drugs more serious than weed - without having any negative effects at all. Obviously most drugs are illegal and I wouldn't want to promote their use - especially to young and impressionable people. I just wanted to say that if you research and understand what you're doing, how to be safe with it and what you should expect (and how to deal with problems that could arise) drugs are not negative at all. But many people don't do this and suffer negative effects...

!= is well defined (as opposed to practically everything in the english language) and I'm confidant that it was understood correctly by my intended audience (mike, a math student). What exactly is your problem with it?

That said, your speil on drug use is pretty well on the money.

The fact is all illegal drugs are illegal because they alter your mental state, specifically they destort your choice making abilities. This means while under the influence of drugs, you will do things you wouldn't normally do when you are sober.

I had a discussion with a person who smoked weed about why he thinks it's ok to smoke. He gave me many good reason's why smoking weed is not a bad thing, but when I told him that I thought it was bad because it destorts your judgement, he agreed that he has done things while high that he wouldn't even think of doing when he was sober.

So this is why I think all illegal drugs are bad, along with being drunk. I don't want to put myself in a situation that I'll make a choice that I wouldn't ever make normally.

Plus, I think smoking weed will hinder your footbag game in the long run. Think if all that time you spent smoking, you spent on footbag. How much better would you be? Ya, you can say that about many things, but it still doesn't make it any less valid.

In the poll:
Always (Most everyday, at least once a day) - 16%
Those figures are IMO not very good for baggers reputation ^

If I haven't replied here already I'll just say that I don't smoke, but I've tested it and I think it's shit.

.....I would have to vote for 100% sober.

Smoking pot is bad. Period.

So don't tell me how it's "harmless" and "it's not a gateway drug". It is. I know, I used to be a hardcore stoner/druggie. I used to be high about twice a day. But you know what? I'm only seventeen but even I grew out of it.

My theory is that it's childish. You can't seem to enjoy life enough while sober so you look for the easy way out. Pot. It's quick, easy fun and it makes me feel good. There's so much more to enjoy in life (footbag) to just get ripped and let it pass by.

My conclusion, enjoy life...don't just sit back with red eyes and laugh at it.

I might agree, but look at many many of the top players in the world. I won't mention any names, but a lot of the tip top game enjoys a smoke. I'm not for or against it, as long as it doesn't make problems for that person or others. I'd wrather it legalized, but the only reason is because what is legal now sure isn't good for you. Cigarrette smoke around places, not good for others around, even though public places are starting to crack down. Alcohol, that shit is horrible, I've done plenty of dumb things that I wish I wouldn't have done, but I have, and prolly will again in the future, but it's legal

Bill Hicks quotes on drugs:

"They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference."

"Why is marijuana against the law? It grows naturally upon our planet. Doesn't the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit . . . unnatural?"

"See, I think drugs have done some good things for us, I really do.
And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a
favour: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all
your cd’s and burn em’. Cause you konw what? The musicians who’ve made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years...
Rrrrrrrrrrrrreal fuckin high on drugs."

"I smoke. If this bothers anyone, I suggest you look around at the world in which we live and shut your fuckin' mouth."

"The worst kind of non-smokers are the ones that come up to you and cough. That's pretty fucking cruel isn't it? Do you go up to cripples and dance too?"

"I have never seen two people on pot get in a fight because it is fucking IMPOSSIBLE. "Hey, buddy!" "Hey, what?" "Ummmmmmm...." End of argument."

"To make marijuana against the law is like saying God made a mistake, you know what I mean? It's like God, on the seventh day, looked down on his creation and said, "There it is. My creation. Perfect and holy in all ways. Now, I can rest... Oh my me. I left fucking pot everywhere. I should never have smoked that joint on the third day. Shit. If I leave pot everywhere, that's gonna give people the impression they're supposed to use it. Shit. Now I have to create Republicans." "

"Here is my final point. About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography and smoking and everything else. What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, say, think, who I fuck, what I take into my body - as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet?"

I would put forward the arguement that people who do stupid things while on drugs have bad judgement anyway - for a lot of people who do drugs, the choice to do drugs is a sign of bad judgement and it's no surprise that they continue to show bad judgement.

The legality of drugs is another issue entirely and I think it's fairly clear if you look at what drugs are legal and what drugs are not - and the effect of these drugs - it really isn't an issue of "mind altering" - it's just that some substances have been ingrained in our culture and cannot possibly be banned while other substances are newer (at least culturally to the west) and have a smaller following - so it's more effectual to ban them. However clearly this policy no longer works as a very large percentage of people smoke weed and pop pills. Clearly there would be a much stronger benifit in legalising drugs and having a government owned recreational drug company providing safe drugs for government profit - that means the community would keep the money, there would be much less crime associated with the drugs and the drugs would all be safe.

There also needs to be much better education about how to use drugs saftely. Sadly this cannot happen very much at the moment because the drugs are illegal but there has been a push towards it in my state. People will do drugs regardless of the legality and we should have laws that reflect reality not the ideal of no drugs...

I would have to say I disagree with everything Bill Hicks has to say.

"They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference."
He has the defination of motivation wrong. Motivation means the want to expend effort to achieve a goal, it is not your ability to achive that goal. Using drugs like pot demotives a person because when on it they don't see the reasons to achieve goals (as he puts it "realise that its not worth the effort") which is negative to themselves as they sit round and achieve nothing metally or physically.
This often has a chain effect, because a pot smoker is always high, he always "realises its not worth the effort" to go to work or get a job, so he relies on others (like the government) to provide for his addiction through benifit, which does affect other people because he using wasting your countries taxes.
Ofcourse this is a worst case scenario, the majority of casual pot smokers i'm sure don't suffer this severe demotivation, just those that become addicted to it do.

"Why is marijuana against the law? It grows naturally upon our planet. Doesn't the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit . . . unnatural?"
The materials used to make nuclear weapons (uraniam etc) are made from or are natural materials, do you think building nukes should be a widely accepted activity?

"All good musicians are on drugs."
That is total bollocks. I would say the percentage of musicians who are addicted to drugs are pretty low on the whole, everyone just makes a big deal about it when they find someone who is a great musician who does do drugs saying 'See! us stoners aren't losers after all! We can make good music!'

"If you don't like to smoke take a look around"
This statement is ridiculous. Obvoiusly this guys mother never told him 'Just because other people are doing it doesn't make it right'.

"The worst kind of non-smokers are the ones that come up to you and cough."
Cripples can't help being crippled, people who smoke can help the fact that they smoke. There is no comparison between the cases.

"I have never seen two people on pot get in a fight"
You will also never see them(while they are on pot) get into a job, do well in school, have good relationships or achieve anything really.

"To make marijuana against the law is like saying God made a mistake"
see answer above to "Why is marijuana against the law?..."

"What business is it of yours what I do"
I have an answer for this but it would cause too much debate to go into and this is really a whole different issue that starts to get into what is right and wrong, how things like this affect society and even religion, so I will leave it.

Man, I can't believe I just wasted all that time replying to someone who doesn't even browse the forums, I don't even know who Bill Hicks is...

LOL!
I'd like to know where you got your research for that one.
Bill Hicks is a (now dead) commedian. VERY funny bastard who tells it like it is.

First of all, this thread is not about addiction, it's about use. The Bill Hicks quote never stated addiction, merely the use of drugs.

Addiction and abuse of drugs is a bad thing. However, the responsible use of pot harms no-one but the person doing it.
I respect the comments of those people who have tired pot, but given up. That's their decision.
I also respect those people who have chosen never to try pot. But... You really have no right to comment or pass judgement on those of us who do use drugs.

Also, the concept of footbag players being pot-heads is not really that different from (rock/rap) musicians being drug users. I'm sure some of you anti-drug people listen to rap? Hell, doesn't Rap go hand-in-hand with a drug culture?

I'm not trying to convert you 'non-smokers', I'd just like you to understand that responsible use is just that... responsible. Don't preach to those of us who have made that consious decision.
(that last comment is directed to no-one in particular).
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.
