What a strange thing to notice. I hadn't even caught that. I don't know why it was like that, just a picture from google. Here's the right one:

This morning I went to watch some net at Frederick St. Park. AJ, EJ, Jeremy, Angel, and Joel were all out to play. It was nice to see the new generation of SC net going strong.
I have mixed feelings about going to session to watch people play. I like watching footbag. I like watching footbag videos. I like watching my friends play. I like seeing people progress or hit phatty strings. But when I'm there just to watch and "hang out" I feel kind of like a poser. Or like a tagalong or something. I don't know.
I'm not able to play footbag right now. My back is still giving me problems and I'm trying to decide if I should go back to the Dr. I don't think anything can come of it except a big bill.
Today last weekend ended. I watched Nick and EJ session at the wharf today. Nick's aquaintence Tim came and circle kicked too. We all went next door to The Boardwalk and went on rides!!!! YYYAAAAAY. Spinny rides, fast rides- so much fun. Nick (who screams like a little girl) got lemonade and beef jerky, and EJ got a 20 oz. can of Fosters beer. EJ and Tim headed out so Nick and I hit up our last rollercoaster then I dropped him off at a restaurant in town.C-Fan wrote:A tourney officially kicks off the minute you see your first footbagger, and ends the second after they leave the sight of your goodbye.

Went to new Dr today, Dr. Berstein. He poked and prodded my back, figured out some stuff about the alignment of my back, hips, and legs that we weren't really sure about before. He sent me to go get x-rays which I hadn't been told to get until this point. The x-ray place is walk in and since I got them done today, they'll be ready by Wed when I have my next appointment. If they come out the way we want them to, I'll take treatment on the decompression machine then do physical therapy through his office. If not, then I'll just go straight to p.t. with them.
6/5/05-? It's really tiresome to make yourself stay "hopeful" and positive for so long. DB gave me some samples for a new pain killer, which he described as a non-opiate opiate. It's designed to dull pain instead of taking it away, which is a good thing. After I try them I can fill the prescription if I want to.
I've been footbag-free for a little bit now, and that will continue until I am better, which may not be... whatever.
My goal for this summer is to do everything I can for my back. I'm hoping to make this the summer of healing. I've been taking a multi-vitamin every day and eating pretty healthy stuff. I made the appointment for the new Dr. and hopefully new treatment and got the x-ray. Proactive. Keep it up, Emily.
I don't want to eat out unless I have to, and in that case only for lunch not dinner. We'll see how long that'll hold up, big spending junk food queen.
I'm going to try to skip freestyle sessions for a while. I can't play anyway, and it's just depressing. I don't feel like being there and stitching or reading, because then I miss everything. At net I can read for a few minutes and then watch the game again and not feel like I missed everything. There's also more social contact for me because there's almost always someone waiting to rotate in. Maybe it's time for more "me" time? Or maybe more time for the non-footbag people in my life. Or more non-footbag time with footbag players.

6/28 PART 1
Well! I'll start with my new news first, then write random stuff about my daily life like usual.
Today I started my new treatment on a machine that will (ideally) help open up the space between the vertebrae, also allowing the disc to go back into place and not pinch the nerve anymore. That's all being optimistic. Don't worry, I'm not getting my hopes up, so I won't be as disappointed if this turns out not to work. The Dr. said that he thinks one of the problems I have is with ligaments in that area, and if this machine doesn't do it for me I'll get injections to help stimulate the ligaments so they'll get stronger. Then PT through his office. I'm sure I've said some of this before, sorry about that. This guy is an Osteopath. I would have done something like this sooner but the only people in the area with it are chiropractors, who I do not trust. The places were all sleazy feeling too. And the last Dr. I had said that he didn't think I'd be able to get this treatment because of some added in problems with my back. Anyway, no shots unless I need them in a long time. For now, I'm going in and laying on the hydro-bed or something like that. It's a bed but the top half is like a water bed except that instead of just swishing back and forth there are a bunch of jets that move all over my back. It feels really nice. I do that for 15 minutes then move over to the decompression spino-something machine. 30 minutes on that. They said they'd start me off on a light setting because it's the first day, but that they'd increase the setting as my back got used to it. In my head I thought, "I can take pain, I don't care about being sore, you can start it off on a regular setting." I didn't say it, it's just funny to realize that that's what went through my head. I can usually take more pain than people give me credit for. But since I'm going there M-F from 4:00-4:45pm for the next four weeks, I thought that starting off hard core on the first day wouldn't make it go any faster, and it probably wouldn't be good for my back anyway. NOT that any of this matters, because it's not like I said any of it out loud. Yahr, back on track here, there's a little screen so that when my hips are being pulled down apart from my chest I can see the amount of pressure. It starts off so lightly, one minute on, thirty seconds of rest, or something close to that. I could barely feel it. The attendant came in and asked me to take my earrings off. She put a clip on each earlobe and set a little hand held machine on level 2. She said that it would help to calm and relax me. I wasn't agitated, but as she was clipping them on I started to feel a bit more uncomfortable. She also said that it helps to release serotonin in the brain from the small pulsations. I left it on. By the end of the session I was on the top level for fun. As the session went on it went from 1 to 2 to 5 lbs of pressure pushing my hips down to stretch out my lower back. Then later I saw 10, 15, 20 and finally 25. It was a very strange sensation. I don't have anything else that might be at all interesting to either of us, so I'll just say that when I got up, I was stiff in my legs and sore in my left hip in a strange place. I feel like it was a good thing, it felt like something was moved out from being in the wrong place. But who knows. Oh yeah, I fell asleep during the 30 min session on the machine, I dreamt about footbag.
I've been having footbag dreams the last four or so nights.
I've also been going to the gym on a regular basis. Nothing that would hurt my back as far as the last PT was concerned. Recumbent bike for 20 min., light bicep/triceps machine that supported my back, abductor/adductor machines, then swimming 6 laps and then hot tub. Stretching too. I felt better when I was active. Back and other. But not that I'm doing this treatment for four weeks, I can't do anything physical except for walking back and forth in the swimming pool.
Besides the gym, that's not going to be too different from what I've been doing for the last... 3? weeks. I have been watching more movies. Men at Work (1990 Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen) and One Crazy Summer (1986 John Cusack and Demi Moore) are waiting for me for when I get home from work tomorrow. When I get home from the Dr., I mean. I'm not actively trying to see every John Cusack movie in the store, but it's fun to pick up a new one when I can't find anything else. I'm waiting to see Grifters but it's always out.
I still feel like an extrovert, but I guess that when you don't go out and socialize with people you don't really know what you are. Closing myself in my room for the summer is not my goal. It just feels easier to do right now than trying to find something fun to do while not doing anything physical or expensive. Stuff will fall into place, and I think I'm on my way out of this funk rather than still feeling stuck here.
6/26
Went to a class at my gym for the first time since I've been a member. Yoga, and not surprisingly I couldn't do much of what the class because it was bending over at the waist. But I still got some good stretching done. Worked out, sauna, whirlpool. Rented some anime movies, watched Noir - Shades of Darkness Vol. 1, did some stitching.
6/27
Watched some of Angel Sanctuary. It was nice to see me doing a move in Fletch's blog. That trick looks super easy to me. It was a happy reminder that I am a footbag player, not just a watcher/talker. I look happy after doing it, but I know I was annoyed that I didn't do a pdx mirage or anything out of it, just a toe. Anyway, I liked seeing myself smile like that.
Yesterday I was sitting in bed stitching and decided to write down "Recently stopped killing bugs" to remember to write it in my blog or a journal, because for a long time (1+ years, I really think it was about 2 years) I didn't kill anything to my knowledge. Not even mosquitoes when they were biting me, I just shooed them away. Anyway, as I wrote that I felt something on the back of my right arm. I turned my arm and saw the huge daddy-long-legs on my bare skin. I accidentally brushed it off without thinking, then realized I had no idea where it was. I sat still for a minute, then didn't see it moving on the bed or walking up the wall where it had been before. I take that as a sign that even though I'm being good by not killing them, I should stop being lazy and take them outside where they belong. It was funny though, just like it was right out of a... book?
Still haven't eaten out, still no soda (almost had Hansen's Soda twice, but avoided it. Whew!), still been taking a multivitamin every day. At the gym 4+ times a week, though it doesn't feel like I want it to feel since I can't do much of what I'd normally do.
6/28 PART 2
After the treatment I had to go pass Capitola anyway, so I went to the session at Capitola Village. Plus, I wanted to meet the new guy Max and anyone else I didn't know about. I didn't want to get too far out of the loop. This was the same place I went to kick with circle kickers before there was a scene here. EJ, Chad, Stu (formerly known as Max), ET, and Stu's friend Nate all showed up. For a while it was just EJ, Chad and Stu. It was fun to see them kick with each other. EJ and Stu had a competition for who could get the most contacts of mirage>toe>mirage>toe. Later EJ did mirage>mirage (I think for the first time) and ended up doing 6 or so mirages in a row after just a few tries. That was exciting. For a while I sat and watched, then later I stood in the circle with them. They didn't seem creeped out by that, and I was glad. I couldn't even circle kick it, so it was king of them not to be upset about me just standing there. It was a casual comfortable circle. I liked how much the bag moved around the circle. I feel like I'm making weird comments or observations, enjoying strange things. But maybe I'm just learning to love footbag from a different view, from all aspects or some junk like that. Or maybe I just miss it and am trying to experience anything footbag related that I can. Oh well, there's a chance that in a month I'll be better. At another point I was sitting down watching the three of them plus ET play. Chad walked over and said something like: "You're going to teach me how to do mirage and I won't stop until I hit it. Deal?" "Deal," I replied. I felt good being able to spend time helping someone without thinking about anything else. No worries about trying to stay warm or play with the other people or anything. He did hit it on both sides, but still needs to work on it a lot. After a long time I suggested that he try doing legovers and they were much easier for him. Later on EJ came over and said he wanted to skool pixies and I was able to help (not that he needed much). It still felt good.
If my back is in good enough condition for the car ride to the US Open, I'll go even though I might not be able to play. This won't be the first event I've had to sit out.
Today I say my first quote is someone's signature: Matt Cross: "It would be great if this thread didn't turn into a Dan vs. everyone thread like so many do." What a quote.
The futon couch from the living room is my bed for now. I got a down comforter from my boss tonight for free! My parents were going to buy me a comforter for my birthday but now I get something else. How perfect.
Moving in a month is going to be interesting if I can't move/lift anything. It's a good thing I know some foolish people in town who are under the impression that I'm nice and worth helping.
Light, sound, comfortable place to sit, way of writing down what I'm thinking; Computer, you have it all.
Like,
Me.

Today the Dr. said that the person who told me what to do/not to do was wrong that I wasn't supposed to do any other walking besides in the pool. Dr. says to walk as much as I want to, sweet.

*There is no footbag in this post. Walking is still the only exercise I’m allowed to do. But I can still post bunches of pictures in here. I’ll try not to repeat anything that Nate posted in his blog. The pictures are at the end.*
Well!
My life has been interesting recently. Nate just left after living with Jeremy for a week. It was perfect timing because the week he was here is the same week my boss was out of town so I didn’t have any work. Nate, Jeremy, the other net guys and I had some good fun over the last week and there are plenty of pictures to show for it in his blog. I suggest you check it out if you haven’t already.
What else has been going on with me? I’ve still been having back treatment (on the machine) 5 days a week. I took the Doctor’s suggestion to up the amount of pain killers per day by a lot. Life is better this way, but also a little cloudy sometimes too.
I haven’t been on Modified recently so Chrissy PMed me two times to tell me to come back to her. She is the best example of a friend I’ve made online. I’m interested in seeing studies and papers done on the social and psychological yada yada of online communication since it’s so (relatively) new in the world. I just haven’t looked around for them yet. Lazy.
That commercial just worked. I totally want a Crunch Bar.
Another big thing going on with me is that the house we are living in is being sold and we’re moving to a different place on the 1st. Actually, we have to be out of here by the 1st and will hopefully move into the next place within a week or so. I haven’t seen the new place, but my roommates tell me that my room is really small, even compared to my current room which is already pretty small. The rest of the place sounds nice and it is 1.5 blocks from the ocean. There isn’t sand on this part of the shore, but I can sit on the rocks at the bottom as long as I don’t fall asleep. You know, tide coming in and drowning and all. Pictures? Sure.
MMmmmm, surfers.

The next chunk of my time will be spent boxing things up here to take them to storage, then cleaning this house so we can get our deposit back. After we’re of this place we might crash in Jeremy’s extra room until we can move into the next place. After the whole moving thing I get to look forward to a rip with Jeremy and Fletcher! We’re driving 10+ hours to the US Open in Portland. I’m stoked about the road trip part of the trip. I just realized that I haven’t been on a long car trip in… a year? Recently I haven’t even been driving to SF as much as I would like to because my car isn’t safe to go over the little Santa Cruz mountain range. My travel life is pretty different than it was 1-2 years ago. …I’m reaching my two year California anniversary so of course I’m getting all reflective. You’ll notice I use any excuse I can to do that.
Compared to some months ago, there is very little freestyle going on in SC right now but the net scene is awesome. The Chaos crew in Oakland is definitely more dedicated as a whole, and much more hard core about the sport (and overall better skill-wise), …where was I going with this? Ha. We definitely don’t compare to them. But there is usually a really good turn out on Sundays and I think there are at least a few mid-week sessions right now.
This post feels sort of random. Since my last post I’ve felt like posting a bunch of different little stuff but haven’t because it had very little to do with actual footbag, so now it’s kind of thrown together in one post.
