If you know me, you know I really don't have any strong connection with the town I live in, nor the people who I hang out with. I never really felt like I was really best buds with anyone here. And I didn't think I'd really care when it came time to leave.

Well tonight I went over my friend's house for a sort of goodbye with the people I associate with the most. And when we left I got the strangest feeling. The one you get when you leave footbag tournaments. That down in your gut kind of pain when you know you'll really miss someone. And even though I don't have tons of friends here, the ones I do have I think I will miss. And maybe that scares me because I didn't think I was attached to this place at all.

If your reading my blog I'm happy you are. And I think if anything, I'd like to lend some advice. If your in highschool, really live for the moment. Really go out of your way to bond with people and make good friendships. Don't be afraid to stand out or date some weird girl. I cared too much about people and about what the outcome of stuff was. I really wish I would've just gone with my gut. At the end of the day, your true friends stick with you. Everyone tonight supports footbag 100% and think it's really awesome. But there are so many people I could have befriended and I didn't. There are a lot of oppurtunities I missed. So if your still in highschool, just go for whatever you want, cuz it's really probably better than regretting it at the end.

Back on topic, I move in on Wednesday. So I have 4 days left in this town. Most of my friends have left. The Penn State kids are still here, but I'm suprised at how few there are. My one good friend Adam is goign to PSU and I'm really happy about that because in the past few days we've hung out a lot and kinda just rolled with the punches of everyone leaving together. I think he will be a good person to have down there.

I haven't really packed much. Haven't played footbag in like 3 days. My knee really hurts. I wake up early and ride my bike. It's nice. Just riding around and thinking about stuff. You should try it.

I hope my knee heals so I can play with Scott and Nathan. I hope I make a lot of friends. I hope I stay friends with everyone in footbag even though I might not be online as much. I hope things work out.

In the past few weeks I've been pretty down on stuff. Like I really was having trouble finding a point in life. I was kinda bummed about religious stuff too. I think it will all work out. Just can't give up you know.

This may be my last post for a while. There are much bigger things than an internet forum. Footbag is much bigger than this forum. Although no matter how many silly kids make silly topics, I will always owe part of my enjoyment and skill to modified. Without it we would just be playing by ourselves in basements.

If you enjoyed reading my blog, thanks. It means a lot to have like 16000 views or whatever. It's cool to know that words your write are read by others. It's cool to know sometimes you make people happy, or teach someone something. It's cool to post videos and get props, but it seems like every day footbag becomes much more personal, and much less about the community. The only person I want to beat now is myself.

If you ever feel like chatting, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. DClavens at the big footbag.org.

I'm sure I'll still watch videos on this site, so I will not be totally gone. Perhaps even something I make will leak out to this site :)

Later readers. Shred hard. Spread the good word of footbag.

Your friend,
David Clavens

Stay cool. Those frat keg parties can be pretty dangerous. That's where I got my beer pong throwin' arm!

Beer pong is wack.

It was awesome meeting you in P-town, yo. I hope your knee gets better soon. Stay fresh at university, try new things (aside from beer pong), and keep your options open. Some of the best advice I've ever received is to not close any doors in life.

David, you're such a thoughtful and smart boy, ít's clear you will excel in life at whatever you do. I am stoked for the future for you, things will surely brighten up and you will begin enjoying yourself more.

College is the ultimate time to act in the way you wished you had in highschool. You have a totally clean slate, same with all the new people you will be meeting.

Enjoy the hell out of PSU!

I am glad to be able to call you my friend.

Good luck! :)

David,

Im sure you will have unimaginable amounts of fun in college. Just be ready for it.

I hope you knee heals fast, and I look foward to the next time I get to shred with you, even though the last time was two years ago and the 'Tj goes to Japan jam' I'm not even sure if we did shred, but I will pretend that we did, because god damnit, you are cool.

I felt pretty unfulfilled when I graduated from highschool. Like you, I didn't connect well with the people that were close to me then. Even the first semester of college felt too surreal to be true. Stick to the advice you wrote in your blog, Dave. College is definitely the place to excel beyond your expectations. It's the one place where I know you can truly find yourself.

I did. :)

I hope your knee gets better. Can't wait to see again.

This is more for personal record than anything else.

School is ok. It's going well. My grades are pretty good so far. I C'ed on test though. But I'll bounce back.

Footbag is good. I play a fair bit. Not as much as at home, but when me and Bevier play we play pretty seriously.

I try not to read modified as much. It's really lame. True footbag is far away from this.

I'm going to KICKASS with scott. It should be fun. 7 hours in a car won't be though. Win some you lose some.

Lunch with some girl from Stat.

Have a good one.

Sorry, this may be outdated but I read that post just now.

True. And like Matt said, the end of high school is pretty early to figure that one out. Some people never do.

One of the best things in my life so far happened in my final year at high school, when a girl from my class finally overcame her qualms about dating some weird guy. Now, almost six years later, we're still together.
