well, clavens came and it was the worst sesh ever. ha ha. I mean, he was amazing (duhhh) but drew sprained his ankle on his second turn, and I was SPENT from 3+ hours of barn work before dave arrived. stupid on my part. my legs were shaky and felt like jello, so I literally couldn't string more than 5 tricks. whatever. unfortunately, plans to hangout afterwards were not meant to be either. oh well, next time.

flash, if you're reading, did you happen to meet my next door neighbor in prague? he's a teacher said he met a PA player there during worlds. random.

anyhow, barn.. good weekend. got all cross bracing in, let the come alongs loose, and building didn't move an inch. So cross bracing was well designed and installed. Nice. I aso got the first concrete pier done. Just one sentence to write, hours to accomplish. I'll be doing all the concrete piers now, which will ultimately allow me to have the concrete floor poured. Once that's done, people will beging to see the potential instead of constantly asking me "shouldn't you just knock it down and start again?"

yeah, totally.. this is where project progress should start to speed up considerably. So I'm pretty pumped to have one pier poured. that's a lotta p's within a couple sentences. peter. there's another.

edit: ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. there's a thread about "modified - in decline". That's funny. Of course it's in decline. No need to post when you can just PM one or two people and find out the meaning life and the answer to any possible question. And be verbally abused while you're at it. bitch slap

last night, did NOTHING and went to bed early. felt good to rest. My body is so mad at me in so many ways and needed some down time for a change.

tonight, gonna practice some hack and then get some lumber for the barn. Cool thing is that I can return some of the stuff I bought already because I kept it in good condition and home depot will never be the wiser. It's a little shady, but who asked you anyways. ha ha

tomorrow night, install 1st new post! YAY. It's a big milestone. Will add a lot of structural strength to the building too.

i'm back serious on my regimen of eating right, sleeping right, drinking way less etc. Just in time (I hope) to be skinny for Boston Jam and just to feel good about myself in general. The stress of the layoffs at work, and the scariest part of the barn project both ended last week. So it's much more reasonable to be "good".

Btw, I have been re-quit from smoking for 130 days as of today. That's over 4 months. Nice. I barely think about it anymore. That's another reason why it's good timing to be "good" and get back into excellent shape instead of "sort of OK, but not really that good" shape that I'm in now.

Thursday, I'll be at 4 opening round games of march madness basketball tourney. I'll be watching BYU/A&M, CT/Cattanooga, Villanova/American, UCLA/VCU. Pumped in general because I LOVE this sporting event. Particularly pumped to see Uconn (my original home team.. I even went to basketball camp on their campus in high school) and Villanova (my new hometeam).

I ALSO have tix to see the 2nd round games on Saturday. 6 games in 3 days. NICE

i forgot to write about how bad my hands hurt.

right hand, first finger... went to pickup the nail gun and got a 100 year old sprlinter of wood deposited about a quarter inch deep underneath my fingernail. My body is winning the fight against the infection, but my whole finger was numb and sore as hell, and is still ridiculously sore if I bump it. Like, typing it doable but painful.. Tying my shoes is horrible.

left hand, thumb. Was wiped out while finishing up on sunday. Had to put a temporary plywood wall up to cover where I'd cut through the building with the sawzall (I did that because I needed to be in that spot to dig my first footer). Got to the last screw and was just going too fast - I mean, I've put in thousands of screws, I know how to do it - and the drill slipped off the screw and pulled a chunk out of my thumb about the size of a pencil eraser. So I have a crater in my thum now. Surprisingly, not sore/achy, but if I even brush the crater against anything it's horrible.

But, the show must go on.

last night, went to ymca to kick and some young fellas that know this newbie nick that's been linking up with us once in awhile found me and wanted to hack. So instead of practicing, I just decided to have fun and show off some, teach some, etc. One guy was really into it and stayed around long after his buddies took off. They knew the shoes, had a decent hack, and could all do toe stalls. Two of the guys could do crappy clippers and some other hacker style tricks. It ended up being fun despite my usual disinterest in teaching newbies as this stage of my playing "career".

after, went to depot and returned a come along. No problems 8) and used the store credit to get a 6x6 post (which is fucking heavy btw) some 4x4's and a pile of 2x4's. 6x6 will be my new post that will be installed tonight. 4x4's will be my beafy "timber frame" style cross bracing from the new posts that I install. 2x4's for regular stick framing - it's just easier to pickup 10-20 each time I'm over there instead of buying all 100 that I need at once. I'm excited to see the first new post go up.

Have thursday and friday off for march madness, so today is my friday :-)

well, i wouldn't recommend going to the first two rounds of march madness live.. it was a fun experience, but very tiring overall, expensive as hell, and you don't have the benefit of having the tv station automatically switch to the competitive games. That is, of 6 games, only 2 were decent, the others were pointless blowouts. oh well, now i know

couldn't leave the post count on 666 even though i'm not really superstitious etc.

kev, i'll be careful if you're careful! ha ha, hope you're healing up

turns out i needed antibiotics for my finger.. my whole hand was getting red. 2 days of meds, and my finger spit out the splinter.. it was huge. finger instantly better. yay

got the center post purchased today.. 12 footer, 6 x 6 thick.. big daddy. was a feat just to get it home.

then, set about doing all the bracing and jacking (LOTS and LOTS of bracing and jacking) that would allow me to cut the existing center post out, so I can put the new one in. I did my test cut tonight and the existing center post is hanging over my last cribbing with space to spare.. just hanging in the wind baby. so that was a relief. I was literally ready to make a run for it as needed even though i trusted my plan of attack. so that's great news. I can remove the post this week, dig my hole, pour my concrete, and put in the new post. that'll add a TON of strength to the building. feeling lowered stress level already. will go way down once this step is over.

yeah definitely keep an eye on that finger (no, not a finger on that eye...) cuz, dont mean to be that guy that busts out the worst-case scenario of that one guy that i heard it happen to, but my dad was refinishing a customers attic and he got a splinter in his knee that caused a staph infection that he had to get like 3 months of IV drip sessions to get rid of.

its good that your past the point where there'd be potential for having to run out of the barn as it collapses around you :P

5 weekssss

ok, 5 stylish ducking/diving or spinning/gyro tricks.. let's not be silly with spinning ducking symposium whirling swirls etc. either. no repeats allowed..

go

edit: btw, I just was watching the last 2 vids that were posted a page ago.. brian posted them so I didn't get automatically notified of the comments.. but I really appreciate the comments and props :-) in fact, I really needed that, was in a footbag bummer last couple of days... i think getting shredded out by david (even though my excuses were good... tired as hell, and he's one of the top 10 players EVER) squashed the spirit a little... feeling pumped to play tomorrow night now! so THANKS!

thanks kev.. i couldn't hit the full run last night but had a lot of fun trying it, and it got me thinking creatively and doing other fun runs. So it helped me accomplish my goal.

From watching some vids lately, I have noticed more and more that I really like having a variety of concepts, and I enjoy watching others that play that way.. not a shred bot fan per se. rhythm changes, style of trick changes, easy mixed with hard etc. that's what keeps me tuned in instead of zoning to someone ripwalking to ripwalking over and over.. shuffle shuffle shuffle yawn. So anyhow, that's why I asked

so yeah, between getting some props from a couple people that I really respect on recent vids, making the above realization (rather, again realizing that), and having stress come down a bit as scary steps in the barn project are in the past, i had a fun sesh last night. Everything I'm hitting just feels clean and controlled and crisp and deliberate. I'm still annoyed I didn't play that way with david though. oh well

---------
btw, I wanted to talk about "the footbag pain". I'm pretty much constantly sore in some way because of footbag. And after a really hard practice or session, it's worse. But it's sort of a nice pain. A "I really am doing something" pain. It lets you know something about yourself somehow. Really difficult to explain, but the pain has become a friend instead of a nuisance. Anyone feel what I'm saying here? Feeling that footbag pain?

Interestingly, by evening time after my last post, I had really bad chills and aches. Then the fever came rumbling in. I slept from Wednesday night around 9 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.. got up for 4-5 hours and slept until this morning. Fever is still slightly there, but I have to work, so I'm here. Ugh. Now, it's just a matter of time until the family gets it.

Funny thing is.. Wednesday night before I slept, I went out to the barn (shivering.. achey) and poured the concrete pier for the center post. In case you don't know about these things, mixing 3 bags of concrete, pouring, leveling, finishing etc. Well, it's not just "la dee daaaa" type of activity, it takes some elbow grease and some concentration to get it done. But I could tell sickness was upon me, and that by the weekend I'd wish I had that step done (because I can't put the post in without the footer) so I pushed on. That's dedication. or stupidity. Probably both.

anyhow, cranking through a few tasks at work, probably head home early. had to cancel plans to go out with some friends tonight because i'm too sick to do so (and we never get out with friends - tough to find reliable baby sitter - so that really sucks).

well, coming to work on friday (my last post) was a bad move. by end of the day, I was feeling horrible again so I went home, and pretty much died/crashed. I slept for about 15 hours straight, awoke for 30 minutes, slept another 10-12 hours.. that was basically my pattern until this morning when I awoke and my fever was gone (I think.. hard to tell, I'm still sweating like a maniac). I was 103 degrees WITH major major tylenol intake. For like 2 straight days. I couldn't eat, I could barely force myself to drink. I could barely talk. It was fucking horrible. We were getting worried that I had bacterial endocarditis again (the sickness that caused me to get heart surgery in 1999) because I felt that bad. in actuality, i think it's the flu (for those out there that don't get the flu shot because "it only protects against some strains", you're crazy... if you can AT ALL IMPROVE your chances of NOT getting the flu, DO IT DO IT DO IT... until you've had a bad case of the flu, you just don't know).

needless to say, i did nothing this weekend. very depressing. i was so sick i couldn't even lie in bed and watch the basketball tournament. i just slept and had fever nightmares. and felt sorry for myself a lot.

i'm sooo pissed.

wasn't the flu afterall.

And I know this why? I'll tell you

Yesterday, I had to leave work, and then meg had to take me to the ER. I couldn't feel my hands or my feet, and I couldn't breathe normally. They put me on an IV and said I was just dehydrated from the fever still. Whatever, I eventually felt a little better and got sent home again. That whole thing sucked.

Anyhow, I didn't like their explanation and still felt "off" last night/this morning. So I went to my normal doctor (was lucky enough there was a cancellation and I could get an appointment) - he's really smart and is the guy that saved my life in 1999. In like 2 seconds of listenting to me he realizes that the antibiotics that he put me on for my recent finger injury is one that some people have allergic reactions to. And he remembered that I had a similar allergic reaction to another antibiotic (albeit 10 years ago.. like I said, he's smart to remember that far back).

Long story short, in the end, my fever, and my symptoms post-fever were all due to an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. And all the symptoms will now naturally clear themselves up since I'm done with the cycle. And, I took that antibiotic to kill the infection in my finger that was sustained while working in the barn.

See? It all comes back to the barn somehow. Fucking barn.

 I was reading your blog at work and had to keep from bursting out laughing. I find it funny that that is the only solution for everyone else. No one has suggested wrecking ball, fight club, whorehouse, crackhouse, or any other simple deconstruction. Nope, it's always straight to the flames.

Anyway, it's good to hear that you've finally figured out what was causing your illness, I was getting worried you might not be in tip-top (is that a phrase?) condition for the Boston Jam. Looking forward to kicking and partying with you in just a few weeks!

i get to play some hacky tonight.. i'm still a little dizzy and off from all this crazy drug allergy stuff.. but I can't take it anymore, i need to get back to normal. on the plus side, a forced week off might have actually healed parts of my body.
