I loved all your pictures, thanks for sharing them. I wish I had been to US Open, it would have been a blast.

I hope you get everything you want out of footbag right now.

There’s a new member with the username “Schfiftyfive.” Nice.

Thanks for all of the replies! This blog feels really homey right now.

First serious try for a solo session since “coming back.” The deck outside is too dark even with the lights on and a lamp out there, plus it would have been too loud to play out there late at night. I moved my bedside table out of the way and pushed the bed against the outside wall. Now I have a very well lit 5x8 indoor spot.

I tried doing some “easy” strings, which turned out to be not-so-easy for me. It was still fun.

The start of the session included:
-A bunch of legovers along with a bunch of drops.
-11 tiltless
-17 contacts including some toes
Already out of breath and tired, ha.

Some things I noticed:
-“Damn, this is hard” and
-I have no stamina.

Either I fooled myself into thinking I was doing better than I actually was in Portland, or that fruity Rock Star really helped keep me going. I will not start drinking energy drinks on a regular or semi-regular basis. I'll just have to start schooling a lot which is okay by me.

-17 legovers
-clip>ss butter x7 strong. Flip side? Not so much. I might have done one or two, but not more than three.
-36 clippers strong
-27 clippers flip

I watched myself doing the ss butterflies (thanks to Fletcher accidentally leaving his camera here) and they were terrible. It is nice to not be frustrated by watching myself drop on clipper. If I got frustrated at this point I think it would be bad for my game.

I realized that I’m going to have to school hard core to feel comfortable again. I knew that before, I just don’t think I really understood the reality of it.

Excuse me while I answer the phone.

Okay, I'm back. Pdx mirages were also much harder than expected. This whole playing footbag thing is fun.

I'm going to play for a while more.

P.S. Kamil- stop being so picky and come visit.

Thanks Jamieson! I'm having a lot of fun right now.

Here's more stuff from later in the night. I'm not saying I'm proud of all of these things, they are not highlights. It just some of the stuff I was working on. As soon as I did the drill I wanted to once through I moved on because I wanted a good variety instead of doing one drill until I owned it. Stop judging me!

Atw's
Left
-in>out x5
-out>in x9
Right
-in>out x10
-out>in x6
pixie (sets, alternating) x5 sealed with a toe stall
mirage>pixie>mirage>pixie 6 contacts
atw>mirage>pixie>rpt – 8 contacts
atw>pixie>ATW>pixie –7 contacts
mirage>legover>rpt – 10 contacts
legover>ATW> rpt – 11 contacts first try
pickup>pickup x9 but could have done more if I tried again, I think.
osis>osis x4 but could have done more if I tried again, I think.

Man, strong atw several times in a row woke my left leg's shins up again. Wooo it burned after a while.

Hey Scott, it's good to hear from you. It was nice meeting you and hanging out in Portland.

Another late session in my room. Kicked with my newer red/snakeskin bag and it treated me well. I'm not good with this rectangular kick space thing. I'll get the hang of it soon.

26 contacts of clipper>ss clipper>op rpt

Atw's
Left
-in>out x 8
-out>in x 6
Right
-in>out x 11
-out>in x 5

mirages
-flip x6
-strong x7
pickup>pickup x14
legovers x11, several times. I kept hitting it with my leg when going for #12
pixie (sets, alternating) x11! But it took a while to get to that number
osis>osis x10
infinity x10 pretty easily

mirage>pixie>mirage>pixie - 7 contacts

atw>mirage>pixie>rpt – couldn't do a complete set. At this point I was tired enough to go to bed after a shower.

During the session I reminded myself that I can't compare numbers from day to day, and I should wait a week to look back to judge improvement. I don't have any goals like "I want to be able to do 5 drifters/a __ contact run by __/__/__" but that doesn't mean I'm not motivated. I'm not doing strings, but I'm having a lot of fun. I like schooling by myself. I got tired very quickly again, so I took several short sitting breaks and drank water during the session. Part of this is that I'm out of footbag shape, and part of it is that I'm out of shape in general. But everything will slowly get better.

I'm glad I'm at a point where footbag makes life better instead of worse. I've experienced both as I'm sure a lot of people have.

I hope I get up by 10:15am tomorrow so I'm not late to work. I still have a lot of stretching to do before bed. Someone make sure I'm up.

P.S. I watched Mulan again tonight. I'm not usually fan of their cartoons but I like this movie.

Hey Emily, regarding your PM (invitation): yes I'd love to help out. I don't know why but I'm having PM pbs, they're staying in my "outbox" but not being sent. That's why I'm posting here. Send me a mail if it's any easier.

Cheers

Hey Max, it will stay in the "outbox" until it is read. Once I read the PM, it will move to the "Sent" folder. Talk to you soon,
Emily

Today I learned that I need to be a little more proactive about getting back in shape.

I couldn’t play yesterday. Then I ate a lot of food between yesterday and today. It was mostly free, so it was hard to turn down. I still feel really full.

A few days ago I decided that I didn’t want to let myself kick after midnight. I want to get a good sleep schedule going this week because I start school again on Monday… but I didn’t want to go two days without kicking. Tonight I started kicking sometime after 1am.

55 consecutive inside kicks
Strings with about 2 toe stalls per 2 add trick, just to keep it off the ground.
20 pixie>pixie (move, not set)
10 contacts of mirage>legover
Some mirage>pickup
Other stuff in here too, don't remember what exactly.
Osis>osis… I ended up doing really poorly with this. I’d get a few then drop. Okay, lets do clipper stuff.
Lots of clipper>op clipper>op clipper>drop. I kept dropping on clipper… and it was mostly my right one, too. I guess it wasn’t that bad, but worse than I wanted it to be. I decided to just school clippers for the next chunk of the session, but I wasn’t in it mentally.

I kept going for a while. Almost frustrated- more like disappointed, I stopped because I thought this session would’ve been unpleasant and unproductive. I’m too tired. No problem, I can always school clippers tomorrow.

Not exactly an inspiring blog post, but it’s about footbag, so…

Edit: Someone say Hi?

Yeah. I know how you are feeling about footbag. I'm not doing so great either. Better luck next time.

Done and done!!!

I was going to go to the session in Capitola but work stuff got in the way. By the time I drove by they were packing up so I went back to my house and walked to the beach. A parking lot is probably not the best shred spot, but this one is certainly not the worst. There are always a ton of people surfing right there, the ground is pretty flat, and there are bathrooms.

From the first contact I did 204 alternating consecutive kicks pretty easily. One bad kick at the end, but I guess that’s all it takes. Someone could go further and use that as a metaphor, but it’s kind of predictable, so don’t.

Then 20 alternating inside stalls.

Boring (but still fine) tiltless string of 14 contacts.

Worked on pdx. mirages. When I started I was really bad with my “strong” side and only fairly weak with my weak side. The improvement in less than 10 tries each side was impressive.

Pdx mirage is probably the most “twisty” move I’m going to try in the very near future. My back gave me some light trouble yesterday. I can tell that the way I stand/sit/walk changed after the back treatments, and of course it changed the way I move for footbag. It’s really hard to get used to, and I’m still more likely to be overly cautious than do something that might hurt. I have to keep building up some specific muscles and everything will become more stable.

Short session again, but good. Productive.

Totally. I find this to be true for myself with the footbag culture more often than not.

I’ll be a good old person.

P.S. Just kidding, EJ.

We had a net at our session in Melbourne yesterday, and it was as much fun as your sessions always look. Net makes freestyle so much more fun hehe. <3

Last Thursday EJ and I had a session in the Village; Dat watched most of it. We had a couple circle kickers join us which was fun. I did a few things I was happy with, one of them being about 35 contacts of 5 clippers each side then op clipp x5 repeated. Afterwards the three of us went to Angel and Jeremy's net session. EJ played a bit, then Angel and Jeremy played a full game. We all went to EJ's and watched Shredded Wheat which is from my collection, and Buda’s Best which is EJ's. I like both for different reasons.

Next on the "footbag videos to watch" list is TOT2. EJ hasn't seen all the glory of that movie, it's educational and so good.

I think I've played since then, but I don't know when or what I did. Emily is slacking with her blog entries... oh no! Since I started this blog, there have been very few sessions that I didn't document in one way or another. Oh, I know one thing I wanted to write: I called up a local gym and asked for a one week trial membership. I don't think I'll join, but it's nice to be able to go and do the recumbent bike, treadmill, some core muscle stuff, stretch, go swimming in the heated pool, sit in the sauna, then the whirl pool -for a week without spending any money. Oh yeah, that's the good life. Anyway, I did that a few days ago and also tonight after the session. My legs and back felt good afterwards.

Today, Wednesday, EJ, Jeremy and I played in the Village. I felt like I did alright. I don't remember everything, but I know I did a 27 contact tiltless string, and at least three others that were 20+ which mostly included clipper, atw (both directions), osis, rev whirl, legover, pickup, butterfly (from toe and ss/far clipper), mirage (toe and clipper set), pdx mirage, (all both sides pretty evenly). I tried my first illusion in like 4 months in a string and hit it just fine.

There were two guys that came and played at different times, both stayed for a good chunk of time. I like this area, I like people here.

Not in strings:
dynos - I could hit only a couple of the many times I tried
some rev whirls - I could feel my arms doing horrible looking motions.
symp mirage and pixie
pixie sets
fairy sets, boo.
stepping -only tried a few times. I hit a ripwalk on each side but couldn't hit blur.

Hi Jamieson.

A girl at school wants me to show her how to do legover. Her toe stalls are great (compared to the average circle kicker). She's the best female circle kicker I've seen out here, and no, she's not interested in freestyle. She is going to buy a Mr. from me though. I told her our goal for the semester should be for her to learn two tricks. I know she wants legover, but that will be hard for her, so I'll also teach her atw if she wants to learn it.

Since this whole back thing I’ve either think I'm really in tune with my body because I'm very aware when something small isn't right or I’ve felt like a hypochondriac. I remember a few different times when my back/body wasn’t acting injured at all and I actually questioned whether my back was as bad as I had said it was. Maybe I exaggerated, you know? Then the symptoms would start to cause great pain again and I would feel really silly for ever questioning myself.

Looking at it in the Preview window, this post just looks dull. I should spruce it up with some color or pictures. Where is Henry when I need him?
