The real world is back now, though. It's another super chilled out day here at work, I've been playing with google video for the past hour or so. I haven't been given anything to do today except transcribe a few notes, so I've just been watching Jimi Hendrix and Rodney Mullen videos and drinking coffee and trolling on modified.
I haven't freestyled since the jam. I think it might do me good to take a few weeks off, I haven't done that yet this year, I believe. My hips keep bothering me. They're not so bad when I stretch, but they're always sore the next day.
I can't wait to represent footbag at SUNY Fredonia. Fredonia is almost exactly between Josh Lewis in Ohio and Rochester, and he's got some other friends who've been kicking out there, so I see some jams in the very near future!
One thing that I think would really make GRASS an awesomer event would be a live band for the big party, and a big floor for shred to live music. I have a few Rochester bands in mind, but not a venue. Bush Mango is a possibility again, they have a whole stage and floor area that I didn't even look at, but I guess was available under the main floor where we had the jam. I wonder how I can get them to give it to me for free again...

Matt...such a great jam. Every day we were there was just like, an explosion of inspiration to become a good footbag player... I saw so many good players there... I met some people who I hadn't met before, as well as some people that had come out for Kickass and it was so cool. I really want to go to worlds now. I really have to work on the 'stuffing myself in a suitcase' routine if I'm gonna be able to get there, though.
Anyway, Matt, thank you so much for having this event....thanks for harboring us footbaggers in your living room for several days. You're an awesome event host, and I can't wait to attend whatever you put on next.

I stepped off my bed this morning, and my knee... I don't know how to describe it. It started to hurt, and it didn't want pressure on it. I took pressure off it slow, and rubbed it a bit, and then I repeated the motion, and it didn't hurt, but it had me troubled. That same spot has been hurting lately when I freestyle. I'd hate to think my knee is going... It's never troubled me much before, but it has lately. My dad says it's my iliotibial band (massacred spelling), and it's a common overuse injury. I hardly play! how could I overuse it?!
it hurts even when I just hack... I'll try and do some more knee rotations and kick a little bit today.
I showed up to the reggae show last night, and the lead singer of the band had been arrested for smoking some pot in his car. Total bummer, but the rest of the band jammed out and put on a really good show with their other singers and guitar player. This really cute girl from the sushi bar was there, and we chatted about this and that, but I didn't go in for a phone number or anything because I'm leaving town in a week and I'm out of town this weekend. I kinda wish I had, though... i might have to go get sushi a second time this week! I tried the "$8.50 in a bowl" sashimi over rice yesterday, it was tasty and awesome. A nice little supper. I had the sunomono salad, but I'll go for the miso soup next time.
2 gigs this weekend, wish me luck... School SUPER soon, wish me more luck with that.

Weird trick: Matt hit toe set over the shoulder blind ass stall, far symposium reverse whirling gyro toe, and gumble (like a dragon refraction), I hit doof, and Ken hit WHAT?!
That's all I remember, but I know that more tricks were hit. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere (but I am nearly certain about those shred30 scores).
I'm not going to do a lengthy writeup or anything, but I had a GREAT time and I am glad that so many people came. 3 nights of partying and 2 days of shred, thanks a lot Matt for making this happen. It was so awesome seeing everyone again.

Rochester event was fun. Hit some new stuff in socks, need to get them in shoes now. Added some points to my shred score, did terrible in sick 3, hit frenzy and reverse mullet for sick 1... overall a good competition improvement. Look forward to start planning for GRASS, and sunday shred days!!

Thanks for representing all out at our tournament, you hit some great stuff in competition. It's been great having such a dedicated kicker with his own style to keep me motivated to shred and to help me develop my style as we learn from each other. You put an awesome tournament together, I know we all can't wait for the next one.

I'm kinda out of footbag for the time being. My right knee has been really bothering me. I've got a case of Ilio Tibial band syndrome, which occurs from the IT band rubbing over a bony part on the outside of your knee over and over. I'm going to take some more time off, maybe another week or so, then try wrapping it tightish right about my knee to hold the IT band in place while I kick. Doing anything footbaggy with my right leg hurts it but it's a common overuse injury, so I don't expect it to cause me problems for too much longer. i've just got to baby it. I think the tightness in my hips moved down to my knee, but I know some good stretches now, so I can start working on it.
I've got all these new footbags, and I can't kick them to break them in I'm looking forward to rocking out this spring at college, though. Fred Shred!!! 2 hours from Rochester, 2 hours from Toronto, 2 hours from Josh Lewis, 4 hours from State College (Cleaver and Flash!!). Far from Kingston, though, we have a whole lake in the way it was nice being close enough to take an easy run up 81 to hang with Tom. I can't wait to see what new players I can drum up at school, though. It's gonna be a blast.

Also, I'm interested in criticisms of my event so I can do a better job at my next one. I'm aware that the sound system wasn't sufficient (I can change that for next time) and that I didn't assign enough small jobs to my fellow teammates, especially during competition, so things got a little hairy at times. Also, I didn't hand out the directions in any kind of ordered fashion, I just gave them to whoever was walking by that I thought might need directions, but I guess I missed some important people, and the Buffalo crew missed the party! and, I wasn't as much of a stickler about judging as I should have been...
so let me know what I can change to make everyone happier at the next event.

Well, despite those last posts about my knee not working, I got out of work yesterday and the weather was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! I could not resist shred!!! I took 3 ibuprofen, and wrapped my knee like I saw on an online diagram, and it didn't bother me the whole time! It felt so great. I warmed up alone and got coached while I waited for Aric to get over. I did a bunch of blurriests on both sides, and a bunch of Jani walkers on one side, a few on the other. I tried my new footbag shorts, and they were SHORT! but i loved them, they were trim around my legs, but super flexible, so it was easy to move in them. Definitely my shortest pair yet. I did some ass stalls for my roommates who were smoking on the porch. They said it was the gayest move ever. so I did a lot more ass stalls, and they cracked up. fun fun. I love ass stall.
Then Aric showed up, and we walked down to the street corner for a more public birthday session with a better playing spot. We played hard and well for a little over an hour, no injuries, big strings from both of us. I had some of the better strings of my life... long, with variety, some with some of my bigger midstring moves... rev swirling infraction > ss symp ddd, fear > smoke > string, fairy butter > bw > bw> string > mullet > string... Lots of good representations for kids on school buses. Which reminds me...
One of my favorite parts about playing with aric is if we're just messing around, and a bus stops full of pointing school children, I can just say, "shred", and he can bust out a long string EVERY TIME so we can make sure freestyle is properly represented to the uninitiated. We also played well for passers-by, we had a few little black kids stop by twice to check it out, and this lady named Jodi or something stopped and talked to us for a few minutes about the sport and the local scene and our tournaments. she definitely had the hots for Aric, big time. You should have heard her squealing when he busted out. She had a tiny little black poodle, and thankfully, it didn't make noise or try and take our footbag, it just hid behind her feet while she talked.
