sorry about the last post. i'm just feeling a little frustrated that i'm making all the descisions and people keep saying "well, you should have done this" after i asked for input, and got no response. again, sorry. i'm not directing this solely at you, it's at every one who offered to help out, didn't, then criticized what i had done. regardless, hacrifice should be pretty fun this year.

I'm glad you found Ico, it's one of my favorite PS2 games. It's got such a unique isolated ambient atmosphere, even a little more so than Shadow in my opinion. I was going to post a link to this super in-depth article I read a while back that went through all the links between the two games for you to read once you finished Ico (it had lots of spoilers), but I can find it nowEric Chan wrote: I finally got my hands on Ico. I don't think many people know about it, so I can't really just leave it at that. It's by the team who made Shadow of the Colossus, which was one of that games that I got my PS2 for. Shadow of the Colossus was incredible, but it'd been a while since I'd played it and forgot its awesomeness. I just played about 6-7ish save points of Ico, and it seems to be almost identical to Shadow of the Colossus. The world is so similar that it seems like a prequel, there are even the same shadow creatures, except this time you fight them instead of colossi (I think that might be the actual pluralization), and the main difference is that it is much more problem-solving oriented. I had to check a walkthrough twice to get started. It's really similar in that dialogue is absolutely minimal and the story is really open and...ambiguous. It's so enthralling! Oh yeah, and to make the problem solving even more of a challenge you have to lead this princess-like girl around by the hand (which is really cute), and she can't do everything you can, so you have to run off and figure out ways to help her, like, open doors, and climb walls and stuff. Video games! Zeb Jackson will love these games, I think; I think we are on a similar video game wavelength.
. It is definitely worth searching for a little once you finish the game though, there are lots of connections i hadn't noticed on my first play through that they tell you that make the story a little easier to grasp. Anyway, enjoy it, it's a great game!-

I think they look nicer now, and play even better than before, but I'm still working on stuff like durability, which is uber important to me, plus, I think every single bag has popped a stitch, whether I have had to fix it, or whether it was during the stitching process, or whatever... I don't want to give bags to people and have them bust open
It has something to do with the melting, so maybe I will try not doing that on the next bag.
Anyway, some neat things about that bag that I posted in the stitching thread, though:
Byrin Wylie: "Whose bag is this? Is this your's Erik? Is it a Clavens?"... suffice to say that Byrin loved my bag! ...and thought it was one of Dave's!!! Biggest stitching compliment ever?? (Oh yeah, 'cause we played with it the whole night!)
Eskimo Joe: "I like how your bag looks better than mine" (or something)... again, wow. So, yay. He also loved how they play, and I finished that black and yellow one, and I didn't like it too much, because the stitching wasn't quite as pretty looking, but he loved it, so I gave it to him
Actually, like, I think everyone liked that one too. Woo!

I met Andrew Dunford, and he's super nice.

I just checked Lon's record list. The ducking clipper record is 172. I hit 164... I was sure it was, like, 200-something and that I was pretty far off. If I had known I would have put more effort into those last 10... Aww.

We want them to play HORSE tomorrow, and Byrin is pretty stoked to play because it's his birthday.
Lots of people met my friend Nelly, whom I've mentioned. It was really good to hang out with her and teach her some stuff. She has pixie sets quite good both sides, good clippers both sides, and stuff. I had a message on Facebook when we just got home at 5 AM saying that she went home and kept playing until 11 PM
I made my first official hacky trade. Eskimo Joe gave me that camo bag that he posted (the one he said was going to Manna); green, brown, and giraffe print; it's wicked. Everyone still loved my bag, and I'm so happy. What else. We have Planet Footbag prizes for tomorrow, and I really want something, because they sent us WICKED swag (including pairs of those shorts I really wanted and started a thread about!!!!!) Oh, Andrew also brought me 5 lbs of lead, and we split up the 10 lbs of steel that arrived a while back. Great! Eskimo Joe says he wants to buy us all breakfast in... 4 hours. He is, like, so incredibly nice! He says he is also going to send me like... all this stuff when he gets home, like, fish, and caribou, and mini inukshooks(?), and some amaretta! Wow! I'm pretty content right now.

We were so busy that I never even got a chance to make anyone any bubble tea, not even Kevin who stayed 12 hours longer than everyone else. I don't feel like writing an in-depth write-up now, but I want one for the website, since I don't have one for a few years. Maybe I will later. I think I will also use that as an outlet to post the results, since it is a lot to post in the tiny little window on the main page that Dat doesn't like
So, Byrin hit blurry whirl > spinning whirl > maelstrom BSOS, and then ended the run with ps whirl > whirlwind > spender... pretty epic. He also hit that similar run that I posted in his blog (which was prompted by Kevin having had his camcorder on pause while "filming"
)... I think that run also had a couple blurry drifters and maybe blurry whirls after the huge drill (he screwed up and did two maelstroms instead of spinning whirl > maelstrom on one side...)
I also gave him that bag that I won't shut up about for his birthday. Maybe I will get a review some time. Maybe I will force him to write one. Umm, let me think of some more highlights so I don't feel like wasting space again:

Rory played Ninja Gaiden on my NES for, like, 2 hours straight, and then another hour later, or so? He got pretty far and we left the NES on to finish later, but we never got a chance.
The castle level?
Rory kept asking Kevin to play Metroid on piano all weekend.
Manna, Byrin, and Rory hanging out in my room. We hung out in my room quite a bit, actually, which was kind of neat. Kevin filmed stuff and seemed pretty keen on all of the things he'd seen in pictures, 'cause I guess he'd never been in my room before.

Everyone seemed pretty stoked on my stitching, so Eskimo Joe and Manna wanted to see my stuff, so I pulled out my recently created stitching drawer, and showed them. I had a bunch of crapped-up bags that I never finished, and gave the most recent one to Manna to practice on, since I had all of the remaining panels cut out. I tried to show him a pent. I showed him how to stitch one side, and let him do the rest, and then was going to show him how to gather and stuff, but we ran out of time, 'cause we had to get to Andrew's for dinner.

I tried to take some action shots with my crappy digital, and they turned out a lot better than I thought they would. I thought I would just get 100% blur. So this was neat. Too bad the ones of Byrin were too sucky.

And here's my newest bag that I just finished. It's not as nice as #023, but it's better than #024, I think. This is #025 for Jess, for winning intermediate shred 30. I gave #023 to Byrin for his birthday, and Eskimo liked #024, and I didn't, so I traded to him for that wicked camo bag of his! Actually, it feels nice. I love this orange (whatever it's actually called) -- it's so... malleable! So soft and thin. This colour combo was inspired by a bag that I saw before I started stitching. I think it was Toby Suggate? He posted the template that he uses, and I saved and adjusted, and printed it and used it for all of my bags up until 20-ish. Oh yeah, my bags are ALWAYS EXACTLY 55g, and even the ratios per filler are spot on the gram, but for some reason, after I took it off and tightened the final stitch, it lost 0.1 of a gram? :p Haha, I dunno.
Oh, I got Jorden's Sessions DVD in the mail today.
I have a handful of stuff I've ordered that I haven't got yet, though. I keep waiting for my BSOS hoody, which I'm excited for, and I made a trade with Matthew Cross a month or so ago, but never got a bag from him. Some other non-hack stuff too... like 3 separate comic orders. I got this wicked Planet Footbag flipbook of Vasek doing his sick 3, at Hackrifice.
Gonna go condition session with this new bag now

Those pictures made me realize how much I miss Derek, even though I don't know him that well.
My favorite memory of Derek is when I walked down the street with him at like 2 a.m in Montreal and I felt like I was with my hero. Not just because his shred was so above me back then, but just that he was so nice and mellow. I'm glad he's still alive and I hope he's happy.

I just hit reaper for the first time! I only footed flip, but it's cool, 'cause it's the side that I never hit far motion on, so I feel balanced :p Then the bag flew up and rolled over the element where I was boiling bubbles for bubble tea... so Jess' bag has a big burn mark on it It's soooo butter after that little conditioning session, though. Stitching
I've traced three new bags worth. LOTS of black. Like, 40 hexes! I'm ripping off Brian's bubble gum pattern, but changing the blue to turquoise -- that was a SWEET-looking bag. White, pink, and turquoise. That will be the first (maybe a different pattern, though? Soccerball, but with alternating turquoise and pink hexes). Then I'm redoing the atomic bag that was green, yellow, blue, and pink with brown surrounding hexes, but making them black. And then I'm doing a dark brown pents with black hexes. I never use my darker colours; they're boring.
I got some comics in the mail. 3 self-published Becky Cloonan books: Minis (14 short stories from her early career), Nebuli (short story about...astronauts?), and "5", which is a mini anthology with short stories from Becky, and a few others. Good times. "Life ain't nothin but comics and money."
Hackrifice updates
I've been slowly working on some content for Hackrifice. I'm slowly fixing the videos section to link to every Hackrifice video that I have in my .org account. It's kind of a pain, but also kind of fun once I'm into it -- satisfying. I've also put up new profiles for Andrew, Derek, Manna, and myself, and will put up Jess' and Josh's once they send me info. It's fun, and you should go read them, because they're enlightening... and fun (did I say that??) Does anyone have any ideas for what a footbag website should have to get people coming back almost daily to look at it? People used to check our site all the time, and now there isn't really anything there anymore, especially since I post all videos to Modified... I want it to be awesome again. Suggestions would be so cool!
I also made a new video yesterday that I put in the videos forum. I've watched it a bajillion times, and I love to see me stepping duck -- I'm excited to do that again today! You should go comment, because not enough people have yet
Stitching
I've traced three new bags worth. LOTS of black. Like, 40 hexes! I'm ripping off Brian's bubble gum pattern, but changing the blue to turquoise -- that was a SWEET-looking bag. White, pink, and turquoise. That will be the first (maybe a different pattern, though? Soccerball, but with alternating turquoise and pink hexes). Then I'm redoing the atomic bag that was green, yellow, blue, and pink with brown surrounding hexes, but making them black. And then I'm doing a dark brown pents with black hexes. I never use my darker colours; they're boring.
I got some comics in the mail. 3 self-published Becky Cloonan books: Minis (14 short stories from her early career), Nebuli (short story about...astronauts?), and "5", which is a mini anthology with short stories from Becky, and a few others. Good times. "Life ain't nothin but comics and money."
Hackrifice updates
I've been slowly working on some content for Hackrifice. I'm slowly fixing the videos section to link to every Hackrifice video that I have in my .org account. It's kind of a pain, but also kind of fun once I'm into it -- satisfying. I've also put up new profiles for Andrew, Derek, Manna, and myself, and will put up Jess' and Josh's once they send me info. It's fun, and you should go read them, because they're enlightening... and fun (did I say that??) Does anyone have any ideas for what a footbag website should have to get people coming back almost daily to look at it? erik, great job on the member profile updates!!! i'm not wild about my picture though, but meh, what can ya do? we should also have an action shot beside them, so it's like "THIS is what i look like when i'm talking to you at a jam, and THIS is what i look like when i'm throwing down crazy shit in your face at a jam." We should also get joel and scott to do them! Their's need serious updates as well! again, great job on all the website updates! and quit talking about moving back to toronto... it's depressing to think about!
