Bob Log III: A review.
That was, quite possibly, the best live show I've seen in my life!
Fuck!
Bob Log starts the night walking around the venue, before the support acts come on. He's a weedy looking guy with thick, black-framed glasses on. He stands in the crowd and watches the other acts. Then it's his turn.
He comes out in a tight black jump-suit, with small mirrors running down the seams. On his head he wears a glittery silver helmet with a large visor, attatched to which is an old telephone handset, which acts as his microphone.
He walks straight out, into the crowd and begins playing his dirty, dirty blues before getting on stage, plugging his helmet in, and starting on the next song.
At one point, a group of guys climb up on stage, holding a large inflatable dingie. Bob disconnects his helmet, and climbs aboard the S. S. Boob, before crusing the ocean of estatic audience (an audience he's named 'Shirley'), where by he continues to play his guitar. He belts out such songs as 'Clap your tits', and 'Wag your tail like a dog in back of the truck'.
Then he stops and tells 'Shirley' that his girlfriends mother is in the crowd. Then he holds up a glass of scotch (on the rocks). "Before she gets back, I want someone to put their tit in my scotch."
To which the crowd begins to go wild.
A girl up the front obliges by pulling up her shirt and dropping her nipple into the glass before handing the glass back.
Bob takes a drink and then passes the glass around the room for everyone to enjoy.
At this point he bursts into 'Boob Scotch' - probably his most famous song, having been played on Triple J.
More songs come before he calls two girls up onto the stage. One sits on his right knee - the knee that he uses for the kick drum. The other girl sits on his left knee. He uses that for the cymbols and the synthesyzer (Did I mention he's a 'one man band'?). With his knees fully loaded, he sings 'I want your shit on my knee', bouncing the two girls as he plays.
He finishes the song, and walks to the side of the stage. Dropping to the floor and commences 35 pushups! He stops, stips off his jumpsuit to reveal he's wearing some valure underpants, with the ass cheaks cut out of 'em.
Bob returns to his stool and plays some more as a woman from the crowd is placed in the rubber dingie and passed around the room some more. This is the final song and the crowd, so estacic with the show they've been given, applaud and cheer wildly as he leaves the stage.
It's 1:36am. I left the venue about half an hour ago after getting a CD signed by Bob Log III, and I start work in 4hours and 24 minutes. I'm screwed.
But DAMN was it worth it.
If you see Bob Log III playing in your city, you're a fool to miss the show.
It's dirty blues, but it's got a life that fills the venue with joy. It's dirty blues, but no-one leaves with the blues, only smiles and a satisfaction that the $15 bucks you spent to get in there was so fuckin worth it.

Fuck!

Woo! I just got back from Vision leaders retreat (it's a camp for young leaders in my church). It was flippin awesome, I am going to have a great year and make some big changed in my life and I can't wait
I haven't soloed in about a week now because of it, but who cares, it was amazing. The worship band had a jam today before we left and everyone danced and I shreded at the back, man my strings were long as. Felt soo good.
I met so many people I didn't even know before, but somehow everyone knows I am the hacky guy haha, that's what I get for kicking at uni all the time. The guest speaker from Auckland (Sam Monk) was well impressed with footbag much like everyone else, and that was cool, but it was far cooler to meet an awesome man like Sam. Had some great chats with him
.
Church tomorrow!
Shred monday!
Editing the rest of the week!
God is great!

nice Gareth!
I find the separation in the dexes of frontside quantum tricks to be a bit hard to maintain... they also make for harsh landings if you arent careful!

I played for something like 6 hours today, 4 hours during the day with all my new crew (Axel from wellington, James from Auckland, Simon from Chch, Hiro and Toby), then I went to a friend's house for tea and came back down at like 10pm and just busted solo till about 12 to some drums that the guys were playing and entertained drunk people, got some mean crowds out in front of the christain tent
.
Good times! Haven't had a proper training session in over a week!

I haven't seen Hagesy online in a while! I might text him.
Anyway, tonight I hit Frontside Quantum Switch, twice. Both super clean.
I schooled the fuck outta my clippers in a 2 hour, 15 min session.
Don't know how many contacts, but was listening to 'the Black Keys' (really getting into blues, thanks to Bob Log III gig), and hit clip>opp clip>repeat for a little over a minute!
That felt good, too.
I also schooled my osis, and a little work on my infinities - they've been really lacking of late.
The Black Keys really did it for me tonight. Their album was 'The Big Come Up'

Wow, I haven't soloed in 2 weeks.
Went in and shreded from about 11am till 3pm. Only 4 hours, but DAMN, that was the most tiring shred every because.... it was CLUBS AND SOCS DAY!
So basicly we got there pretty late, but we got a desk sorted out and I put up my awesome flyer and got some A6 sized copies of it photocopied for FREE! I had like 80 of them and I must have givin out like 40 atleast.
I think I shreded above average, I can always play to a crowd and we pretty much had 10-20 people watching at a time the whole day!
.
Me, Toby, James, Axel and for a while the Japanese guys all represented hard and I gave out lots of flyers. Some of the strings I hit must have been 40 or 50 contacts
.
I soaked my shirt, at the moment I am just wearing a jacket with nothing under it (just got home).
We got 27 people to sign up and put their contact details down!!!!!! WOOOO!
DFC is gonna be massive this year
.
My Melbourne video still isn't started
. I have a feeling I won't have time to solo for a while yet.

yo wot up dawg,
I havent decided to make a blog yet, im not too interested in writing an entry everyday, its not me, and i dont play regularly as you guys do, so im gonna visit this blog everynow and then.
Well yesterday had a session, im still schooling my flipside clippers doing consec and i am seeing improvements with it. Consec flip with a shabby record of about 14 first go
, and strongside is about 30 until i start cramping up.
Im starting to do everything for clipper now including far dexes, and diving and a ducking. The thing i need to do is to create smaller goals for myself, but at the moment im concentrating on school work and weight training. Today i leg pressed 310pounds (which isnt the limit), aiming to press twice my body weight in a couple of weeks/a week.
Anyways my duty here is done

I've been feeling so crap lately because I haven't soloed or worked on my weak infinities and osis and whirls for 2 weeks, and all the progress I had made on them (especially butterflys) seems to be undone. I am back to my fairy shuffle, even my flip atomic is disapearing! I need to solo!
One big challenge for me has been setting stright out of a whirl, my flip whirl is so out of control I can barely hit it, and good side has something wrong that I can't figure out (even worse!).
So I shreded today and tried to hit some combos like ducking butterfly > ducking osis bsos (only hit it bs
) and blender > drifter (only because Toby hit it first). But everything was feeling pretty crap. Then Toby left and it was just me and the Japanese guys and it was much cooler, I tried to help them out with stuff, Ryo can now hit barrage both sides, whirl both sides, dlo both sides and in long strings! Hiro had pixie torque off his foot and hit some impressive strings, and I finally started hitting some new stuff
.
I hit fume bsos, which I have done before but it felt better this time. Then I hit glaucoma back to back (my first 3dex > 3dex!) and then the guys left
...
But I kept playing alone! I FINALLY got my whirls fixied and hit whirl > ripwalk rpt (which is great because my ripwalks SUCK).
So yeah, things lookin up
Props on the clippers Jase!! I think yours are better than mine :O

I just had my first solo session in 2 weeks, it was pretty unexpected because I have sunburn and a freashly shaven face (my gosh it stings when I get sweaty), but somehow I played anyway!
*Goes back 2 pages to find my solo session thing*
Solo Session 14: 1.5 hours (Total since 24/01/06: 33.5 hours)
Drilled: WHIRLS, random stuff.
Notes: Started playing with blenders, hit pdx blender on good side today, and... FINALLY flip side blender!!!!!! YAY!
I hit eggbeater bsos which was nice, pretty much first try so it's good to know they are still there waiting for me.
Then... onto the whirls!!! I really wanted to do some drills to practice setting out of whirl, so I hit:
fairy butterfly > whirl > pdx mirage rpt
clip > whirl > blur rpt
8 contacts of infinity > whirl rpt
osis > whirl rpt
toe whirl > pdx mirage rpt
both pdx whirls feel much better now and I footed pdx whirl b2b atleast once.
As for random stuff, I hit inside set quay bsos and inside set rev quay bs, diving ss legover bsos, diving pdx mirage bs
Footbag r awesome
Woo more footbag! Had a DFC (Dunedin footbag crew) shred in octogon today, it was packed because it was market day, but it was windy too so I coulden't play too well
I also spent a lot of time working things I suck it.
I've realised I can do really impressive strings if I just do fairy moves, good spins, ducking and steppings, good atomic, good drifter and good dlo and leave out any osis/butterfly, but it's so onesided and although I can hit glaucoma midstring like it's mirage, and blizzard like it's illusion, I drop 50% of my butterflys and osis
So I have decided whenever possible I will shred and do as many of my new or crap concepts as possible and lay off the easy stuff, this is hard though because it means my game looks a lot less impressive, and I like to really make a statement to the public about footbag by shreding impressively!
So today I just tryed new moves and worked on my weak stuff. I did some blender work and they feel better, I hit blurry whirl into a string, glaucoma back 2 back again for Toby, my bop drill (like the hardest guiltless drill for me lol) osis > infinity > duck clip rpt lol into a string, ripwalk > sidewalk on both sides, will put that together soon, legbeater > blur bs, will hit rubberman soon. I hit fume bsos, fairy ss drifter bsos, pdx drifter bsos, also hit a nice blurry drifter, need to remember to hit it both sides each day.
New moves: flip side tapping drifter, stepping whirl, fairy whirl... that's all I can remember
.
I just got home from a cocktail party, gotta go ring the misses now.
Tis been a good day
