It's been hot here. I know most of footbag happens north of the equator and I read that indoor sessions are becoming the only option and that it is snowing in some players, but that is not happening here in Santiago (though you can get to the snow in a bit more than an hour). Each day the sun is blasting down, it's been about 30 something every day, and it's only Spring. I guess the summer is approaching pretty quickly - and it will really go on and on.

Anyway, what did I do in footbag today? Oh yes, first session was pretty average, and that can be blamed on the aforementioned blaring sun. Once again, despite not being able to get the strings running, I did learn a new trick - nuclear ss whirl. That's not really something I've ever even thought of before, I didn't really think my nuke set on that side was strong enough. I think something I have been trying to think is that after setting the bag, you can reset and you should be able to do any these basic tricks that you can do any time. I also hit blizzard>blender, which I think may be a new combo.

After leaving the office I went for a bike ride, it was similar to what I did the other day, but in reverse and I also added in climbing to the peak of Cerro San Cristóbal, meaning there was a second hill climb. Particularly meaning that I was pretty exhausted when I returned home. We went out for dinner and I kind of ran out of steam. I also had a footbag session at the top of the hill. Didn't go quite as well as the previous time I rode uphill and started playing, but had a few runs of reasonable length.

I am going to go down to Concepción next week, hoping that I am going to be able to give one or two footbag demonstrations in some schools. Francisca has some cousins down there and one actually did a project about me recently, so it would be great to follow that up with a live demonstration.

I had quite a fun session today, I think it could be turned into a Friday night ritual, particularly when I return to the booze. This month I have challenged myself not to drink. In a secondary goal I added to not spend any money on alcohol, which I guess is pretty poor - adding in a contingency plan in case of failure, but both have held true so far. There have been plenty of opportunities to break down though.

Have held strong though, have also avoided too many take away lunches, though went out for lunch today. With my friend Billy, we visited another friend's restaurant. Then I did a radio show in the afternoon with John, talking about sports. It was a good coverage of a wide variety of sports.

Speaking of that, I'm working on a forum for my sports crowdfunding site. I know forums are becoming a bit "old hat", but I think there is a bit of potential for this to be used for the following tasks: talking about Chilean sports, getting together to watch matches, posting new videos, promoting smaller sports and general talking of rubbish.

So, I brought up the idea of some travel plans that I had mentioned in this here blog to the dear wife. Let's just say she may not think it's such a good idea.

However, this month, there is a special to go to Europe - it is $1300, which I guess is reasonable. However, the reasoning of the wife is also reasonable. I am a bit annoyed actually, Chile are playing a match with England at Wembley, then there was some talk of them playing Belgium, in Belgium, this would have flowed nicely into visit to Brno and Denmark, however the second friendly has been scheduled for Brazil in Toronto. These are going to be real tests for Chile, to see if they can walk the talk.

So, I had a little thought that I could put my little world tour idea into action sooner than expected. Of course I am going to think on it and it may not be such a good idea. I was looking at Skyscanner earlier and had myself confused, as the price was in pesos, though was displaying as for example $600 (rather than $600.000), so I thought there were some bargains in the works.

So anyway, about kicking the bag around. Short session today, played where I normally play at lunch, but at about 6pm on Friday afternoon, so there are plenty of people heading out for beers (it is a kind of pedestrian walkway with about 5 bars around). A lot of the blokes who stand outside to try and get people interested in drinking beer seemed to be pretty interested in what I was doing, so I might try to play there regularly on Fridays.

Not too much planned for the weekend, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Today I had a pretty good, long session. Despite having played every day this month, there haven't been so many extensive session. Today I played close for 2 hours and in particular came very close to something I have been trying for quite some time. That is to hit 15 unique tripless on video. Today I dropped on the 15th trick... I did also hit 15 non unique though.

I will have to have a look at the video, but I think it was dimwalk>blur>dimwalk>blur>parkwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>sidewalk>ripwalk>diving butterfly>ducking butterfly>diving butterfly>ducking osis>paradox whirl>spinning os(drop)

I know that is not a particularly exciting combo, but I have been working on things that flow. That's why some of the harder tricks that I can do are absent from the list, as I want to get to the end of the 15. I was having some tries to add paradox tap are the start, or even blizzard, something to not just start there on the toe.

What is good news is that some of those links, such as dimwalk>blur repeat are starting to come much easier. I was working to a plan, although there was an idea to have a spinning butterfly in between the parkwalk and the sidewalk. Would have been nice to get that 15, but that can wait for the next time. I would actually like to get 20 by the end of the year.

I have also been hitting things like barrage, terrage, reaper on both sides. A bit more focus on those kind of double dex tricks ending on toe I think can be a very big help for my game. A bit more variety can go a long way.

Had a session today "under fatigue". Had gone to the footy training in the morning. Despite the small turnout, we had quite a good training sessions, doing some good work with interval training, lots of running.

Image

I knew that if I went to rest, I probably couldn't get back up, so I had a quick session. Worked a bit on spinning and gyro, which were both showing signs of improvement, particularly on the weak side. While I was playing a girl started asking a few questions about what I was doing. She asked if there were competitions and I said that I was hoping to go to a couple in the next month. Let's see about that.

I also hit a couple of good things, though I wasn't really trying to push things. Hit phoenix>pdx blender and also pixie ss dlo. Those were probably the main highlights, as well as hitting spinning clipper>gyro clipper rpt a couple of times.

Have managed to keep having a session each day, there have been many times when I have planned that, but in the opening days of the month it has run out. We're now much further into the month and still going strong. I also haven't had a drink this month. I think that would have saved me a fairly extensive about of money, as I have been in many, many situations this month where I could easily have just spent the equivalent of $20 in a flash. Those little flashes really add up, then of course there is a strong benefit for the health as well.

Next week I will have my credit card balance back to zero. Thinking of filling it back up (to later be reimbursed) on some travel expenditure. It's a consideration.

Well, playing every day is starting to take its toll. I am developing a bit of a blister on my big toe. I might try playing in a different pair of lavers tomorrow. My sister in law is going to New York in a couple of weeks. Francisca has suggested that I put in an order for a new pair of Lavers. It seems there are some in my size on World Footbag, so maybe I should even book myself in for a couple of pairs.

Those black and white ones look kinda cool http://worldfootbag.com/product/adidas- ... lackwhite/ - they are only available in small sizes though. I still have a pair of black lavers, they are pretty well on their last legs, but it's good to kick in them every now and then.

Speaking of the great man himself, I will taking to the tennis courts once again tomorrow, looking for another victory. I don't know if it will be forthcoming though, I'm still quite sore from the footy training.

Today's session wasn't really aided by the toe injury, as well as the soreness from the training. My original goal was to hit 100 tiltless. I thought I was going to get it, but dropped on 88. I didn't hit too much else of note, but some interesting combos. I did have spender come off my foot. I did get a few things on my foot while I was filming, but they were so close, yet so far away.

I am already in reconsiderations about this travels that I have mentioned here. I would like to go somewhere though. Maybe Venezuela for the South American Championships in December. It's going to be great to have a bit more income coming in, it should make a big difference in our lives ahead of having the baby, which is only a few months away.

Gooooooooooooood session today. We had another game of tennis today, although I let our old mate Rod down this time, the Australian team went down to the poms, 6-4 I think it was in the end. I was doing well on the serves though, I don't think I did any double faults and my only faults came in my last service game. You could also tell we were getting a bit better, a bit more rhythm.

Well that's after two weekly sessions, how about the thing I've been doing every day? Seems that has been paying off, particularly the little bit of work I mentioned I have been doing on barrage. So I watched Ken's video of HPD and as I mentioned in his blog, that has always been something I've wanted to hit, but I had made very little progress.

Still no HPD, instead I hit barroque....well, that was a surprise, but with that turning movement for the osis it seems a bit easier to hit than the HPD. Also something new that I hit today was the combo of ripped warrior>scorpion's tail. I had a really good session today, which was a bit of a surprise, as I had already had a game of tennis, and the surface I played on was slightly slippery. I played at Plaza Italia, a famous meeting point, particularly for student protests, as well as celebrations of sporting victories. I had planned on going there when Chile had the 3-0 lead over Colombia and it was a Friday evening, but they choked and went through to the World Cup on Tuesday, where there were still wild celebrations, but I wasn't in the mood.

Here are a couple of images of past visits to Plaza Italia. All part of the plan to add a bit of colour to the blog.

There are also a couple of stories relating to the plaza on I Love Chile - http://www.ilovechile.cl/2013/10/16/chi ... rate/94185 - one about the football celebrations, one about a recent zombie march http://www.ilovechile.cl/2013/10/19/zom ... iago/94614

It really is the centre of the action there. Was a good place to play. A lot of breakdancers usually go where I was playing.

Anyway, good session today. Feels good to have some progress after all the regular play.

Just a short session today. Nothing too much of note. I was trying to get ducking osis>spinning osis rpt, but I never got that in the end. My hip is feeling a little sore. I'm going to stretch that out a bit more later on.

Roy has built in a new sessions tool on http://www.footbagfront.com - I'm going to test out using that on my mobile next time I play, which according to the plan should be tomorrow.

So I have mentioned in this blog that I have not been drinking this month. A friend asked me yesterday if I was feeling any healthier. I have to say I am probably actually feeling worse, has been a bit of a stressful month.

Here is an impressive (not so much) moment from Chilean player Arturo Vidal. Maybe wasn't his day today...

Today the "Enlightener" posted a video capturing some parts of his journey of playing 2,500 days in a row. Tomorrow I might make a video of playing for 25 days in a row. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it though...

I liked the video though, as I posted on Facebook, it's something that many of could do to make a bit of impact outside the footbag circle. Once my crowdfunding site is ready, people can put videos like that up, and people can send a few pesos their way.

Speaking of that little project, this is the video that I used to apply for Start Up Chile (I actually used it the second time I applied, and despite having a different idea, used the same video)

So, reasonably short session, I went down to buy bus tickets, so as I was already down in my usual playing space, I started to play. Nothing particular of note. I had in mind to try and avoid BOPs after reading Nick Polini's voice, but it didn't seem the brain was connected to my feet, as there would be a BOP every few tricks, particular the osis. However, I was working on a bit of variety and had a nice enough session. There were no goals in mind, I was still a bit sore, actually I was sore all down my left hand side. Come to think of it, I bumped into a door this morning, that's why my shoulder would have hurt.

I read that the MIGHTY Canberra Raiders may play a game in China next year. I hope it's while I am still under the funding from this program, because that will be a definitely necessary business journey. Speaking of sporting events and things to do with the business. For one, I am going to give a footbag demonstration and be a judge in La Florida at another song festival. This is the school I was going to do my footbag/English workshops, but it's a competition for the whole municipality. I did the same thing last year, it is quite a good space for an event.

Also, Chile is going to host the Copa Ámerica for street soccer (In 2015, they are also going to host the actual Copa Ámerica) - http://www.ilovechile.cl/2013/10/24/chi ... rica/94933 I would like to do some kind of competition for footbag and maybe freestyle football as well alongside that event. It is just on in a couple of weeks, but could be something fun to do.

Speaking of old blokes still going strong, how about this fellow - Rogerio Ceni, goalkeeper from Sao Paulo. The guy is 40 years old, has played more than 1,000 games for the same club and scored over 100 goals...He pretty well destroyed the hopes of Universidad Católica last night. I hope to see those hopes destroyed once more in the clasico universitario, which is on this weekend.

I gave a demonstration on today. I caught the bus down to Concepción (about 6 hours south of Santiago) overnight so I of course wasn't feeling in top notch condition. I had a reasonable sleep, but of course that's reasonable for a bus. There were a couple of blokes that really got into their sleep, and their snoring to match...

Anyway, the demo was on a bit later than I originally expected, so it meant that I could actually wake up and become alive. Here is the demonstration that I did. There was a really good crowd, they gave a great cheer. Unfortunately I had one drop, but it went along quite well. It is the school of the kids of a couple of Francisca's cousins. The cousins are quite a bit older than her, so they have kids who are in university or about to finish high school.

Here is the video.

I had a session down by the river later on. It wasn't a particularly flat surface, but I hit a couple of reasonable runs.

Image

It was just near this bridge, which goes absolutely nowhere. Not sure if it was damaged in the earthquake, or it's still being built. There is another bridge nearby in the works, so it was probably knocked down in the earthquake.

That video of the demo is actually the 100th video I have posted on my Youtube account. That was something I was hoping to achieve before the end of the year. They're not all footbag videos, though most of them are. I have also been enjoying putting together the runs from my play each month. I finally have my camera back in action, I had lost the charger for it, but now I found it again so that's good too.

Doing another demonstration tomorrow as well. Footbag taking over Concepción.

Really nice video, Dan. Loved the performance. Wish you got to do it longer for the after riding 6 hours :/ But it was great. Only thing I would critique on in your routine is maybe not have Ducking Butter come right before Phoenix. Maybe change one or the other to something that looks totally different. Blurry Whirl?

Then again, maybe it's good that they see the similarity in ducking butter and Phoenix so they can tell one stemmed from the other? I dont know. either way, it looked awesome. Cant wait to see more footage from you now that you have you camera back in action.

Thanks man - it wasn't a particularly prepared routine. I think you are right on the ducking butter, then phoenix, I actually had a different trick planned for the ducking butter, but it came out that way...

I liked the cheering, the kids got right into it. I'm planning to put together a bit of footage from various parts of Chile with the scenic backgrounds. I'm thinking once I get the funding it would be good to have someone good and video editing to help me out. Not just for footbag...

Going to be a short post, it's late and I'm tired. Did another demonstration today, went along pretty well. Also played on the Estadio CAP (not next to, in front of or any of those prepositions, but on the field. I'm heading off shortly on the midnight bus to get back at about 6 or 7 in the morning. I had an express tour of Concepción tonight, eating empanadas, visiting El Campanil, which is the well know name of Universidad de Concepción. Played quite a bit in the end and did a fairly good demonstration. Wasn't anywhere near perfect, but it was a bit of fun. Did a little mini competition of kicks and the people had a bit of fun with that.

Got a message from Nick which I want to talk about a couple of points in my next post, which will be tomorrow. There are a few things that the quick message that came through, in particular concerning the online presence of footbag, a cohesive method of communication between footbag players and following up on demonstrations.

Had a nice time down here, hoping to have a good sleep on the bus to get back to Santiago refreshed.

Had a quick session this evening just before it got dark. I was trying to get some video with the sunset in the background. Don't know if that worked out. I also hit a trick that I will have to check out on the video, but if it was good, it's probably the best trick I've ever hit. I'm not 100% sure it was good.

So I'm going to put together something from what I've filmed over the course of the month. I have a few more days to keep my month of playing every day, but I think I will changed by schedule to a couple of days on then a couple of days rest for the upcoming month.

I went to the soccer today, weird game. Got called off because a bloke was hit in the head with a roll of paper. They said they would continue the game tomorrow, first at 12, then at 3, then they said the federation will have a meeting about what to do, so maybe they won't continue the game at all. That would put La U out of the race at the top, and Católica, who they played, further ahead. What may happen is that they play the game again (in order to make more money).

I have managed to get some of my thoughts on the sport down while writing in this blog every day. I have a lot more thoughts and think I will try and keep writing daily in here. I have also got a bit more colour into the blog, which I think is important if people will want to come and read it.

Liking the color in the blog for sure. Sometimes posting video, even if its not directly footbag related, can spice things up too. Like your soccer vid above. But yeah, just wanted to chime in and say I've particularly enjoyed your blog lately, so the effort is paying off.

Thanks Ken. No colour in this one, posting from the phone. Played a bit longer today than planned, as I locked myself out. Was working on osis mainly. My best was 23, which may be close to my record. That is something that needs work. I worked on a couple of other osis based tricks, particularly the variations of stepping osis, linking them together. Might have to work on that some more at a later date.

Had a session just now. Still sweating from it actually. Played in a slightly different place. Was going to play in Plaza Italia like last week after the tennis match, but it was all fenced off. We had our tennis match and that did not go so well, downed 6-2 by the Englishmen. Pretty poor performance all round in reality.

I have been getting a bit sore from all these footbag sessions. My key goals for this month have been to not drink, play footbag every day and be blogging every day. In here and in another blog also.

The month is coming to an end so that's where it's easy to let loose and lose track of the goals. I think I will stick to them, but I will also take a break from them in the coming months. I will probably take the whole long weekend off footbag to do a bit of recovery.

So in the session today, I was feeling lethargic and a bit bored of the daily footbag sessions, but wanted to ensure I ticked the boxes. That's why I'm writing this blog now, I am also in the process uploading some highlights from the past month. This are just from my phone. I was going to enter some of them in the competition, but when I went down to the south to the weekend, I had uploaded the files onto the computer, then taken a different computer with me, so once I got back, it was too late. The quality also wasn't great. I did manage to film something for that competition over the weekend though.

I would really like to go to some of the upcoming footbag competitions, but I have a feeling that's going to be out of the reality. I had a chat with one of the freestyle football guys, he's studying PR at the moment, and very much involved with the Ataka crew, who do demos for Adidas and some other big companies. I'm going to get him involved in my startup and I think he is going to be a really big help.

I was having a try of the footbag front session thing yesterday. It didn't quite work as I was expecting, but I have a feeling that may be my phone. I haven't been able to check out Nick's thing yet because I get an error message about a redirect loop. It would be really good though, if different clubs had a weekly session, then you could put that in, or when you're about to play you "light up you signal", so if people are in the area they could look on the map and see what's happening soon - then if there's an event, you could have different colours for something coming up this weekend, this month, this year, etc.

I think some of the tech experts could really develop that. You could combine it with the session thing on footbag front (where you are plugging in data from your smartphone) - it could take a GPS reading an plug you on the world map, then you can see where the latest session was, or if there's a session happening right now.

Maybe I'm thinking too far ahead and I personally have no idea how to do that, but I think that's the kind of way that kind of project could go.

Speaking of a lack of technical talent, I am also not very good at video editing. Not that I am trying particular hard in that department, nor do I have such high quality information to process.

Here is a selection of video from this month. Most of it from that really good session I had after riding the bike.

Anyway, two days left in the month, so that means two more sessions. I think I might make tomorrow's effort something more relaxed. Maybe just some kicking in the park or something.

I saw Euros are going to be in Finland. Hopefully that means a decision on Worlds shortly. Even more hopefully, I could afford to go...from what I have heard I will have to travel out of this continent...

Just a light session today. Was feeling a bit sore after playing every day this month. It seems that has taken a bit of a toll on my body and I was really feeling it on the knees today. I mentioned I was going to have a kicking session today, I was thinking of going to the park and just playing hack, but it's pretty cold out, so I did that in our bedroom.

A key starting point was to do 10 outside kicks (altenating) and this took a lot longer than it should have. I eventually did a bit more, did 50 tiltless, about 20 guiltless and one of my last runs finished with darkwalk>spinning ducking butterfly and finished with pdx blender.

It's a long weekend here, starting now. As I have mentioned one of my other goals this month is to stay off the turps, so I am going to take it fairly easy for the moment. We went to a medieval concert last night. That was fairly interesting. Something different - and importantly, free. Added to the ballet (also free), it has been quite a cultural month...

Next week's cultural experience is going to be going to see Terror and Madball. That's a different cultural experience...got my tickets day, about $20, which I think is cheaper than it would be to go in Australia. I actually helped put on a Terror show when they played in Canberra, from memory that was $25.

I had a lot of fun the last time I saw them. They have put out a couple more albums since then, so they probably won't play a lot of stuff I know.

I also begin the Start Up Chile program next week. That's going to be pretty exciting.

another quick post, with the main reason for posting being to ensure that I tick off a goal! I have done well on my goals this month, it has been good particularly to have some which required. setting aside time each day. I think I will have a couple of days rest from kicking. I also went for a 30km bike ride today, so definitely time for some rest.

The phone has been playing up a little, so I might just leave it at that. Let's see what the new month is going to bring. At the very least, there will be a 25 dollar payment from one of these online survey sites that I use.

I have been taking it easy on the playing. That of course doesn't mean that I have stopped, or stopped thinking about the sport and what to do with it. However, after playing every day and not really stretching enough, I had quite a few sore spots. So I am getting in a bit of rest in these days.

My wife got a new iphone a while back so I am hoping she can do some more filming of me. I was playing by the pool at one of various lunches over the long weekend, and she filmed a few bits and pieces. Something, that after looking at the video, I probably wasn't doing correctly, was an attempt at PS blender. Like a PS whirl, with osis at the end. I think I was going into the osis motion to soon, so it was probably just a big jumping osis.

So I started in the Start Up Chile program today. We had to give a quick presentation of ourselves. A guy a couple before me said "blahblahblahblah and I can juggle", I said something about being able to juggle with my feet, and that I brought a footbag along -just in case- (not like I don't carry a footbag wherever I go...)

Anyway, I did a very small example. I wasn't really wearing footbag clothes, but did a few tricks, which finished on osis, and many people cheered.

I'm going to lose power soon, so that's enough for now.

Good morning blog. I have been playing in bits and pieces lately. Nothing too special. I played last night and was working a bit on the "zipper" after seeing that little video that Scott Davidson posted. I hit reverse swirling zipper like he did in the video once or twice, but it's still not a concept I'm very good at. Aside from that, not too much.

What is blink? I have seen that talked about a lot lately. Is it reverse swirling inside? I did a few of those in my session last night. If it's not..that's still a fun trick.

So I have started in the Start Up Chile program now. The big bucks will come in about a month, but I am getting things set up ahead of that. Lot of work to do. Plenty of money to spend (for an individual). Not so much for a company. Have to make sure I spend it on the right things.

I did another demo last week, it was just a quick unplanned one at a kind of career fair thing I was at. There weren't too many people watching, but they liked it anyway. That was a bit of fun. The first (real) demo I ever gave was at a career fair, that was back in 2005. I am absolutely sure that my demonstrations have improved light years since then.
