This came out of nowhere, but I am seriously considering attending this event.

The flight is manageable, and the way you guys are talking, the time spent in Chicago itself could be very cheap. The .org listing says 83 bucks per night at the Hyatt - is that per person, or can there be cramming on top of that? I can sleep on the floor. I can even sleep on the floor with a few people stacked on top of me.

Usually there is a giant suite rented, which most people crash in for like... $25 for 2 or 3 nights (total, not for each night)

But yeah, the hyatt rooms are $83 a room, with 4 people legitimately, and you can definitely cram. Its a very affordable event, no transportation needed either! Come Colin!

Fuck it. I'm gonna book this tomorrow. I need motivation to get my legball game going this semester, and I need inspiration to keep it going through the winter to take me to Prague. I'd only spend the money on beer and fast food anyway.

It makes sense to me to arrive on the 27th and depart on the 1st. It can't be called a New Years Jam without a new years party... am I right? Five nights at 20 bucks is still only ~135 CAD, plus a few bucks for food and drink... I can't believe this, I'm pretty damn excited.

"its a footbag jam, not a night club Sad" I think it makes more sense to pay 5-bux each than to expect one person to pay for everyone. Css has charged to pay for the venue I think- How sad is it to ask for a few extra bucks from your parents?

oh jon. The entry fee wouldn't be only 5 bucks. in the past (midwestern "regionals" the entry fee has been upwards of $30, which deters everyone from competing. I doubt it would be $5.)

way to slip that "from your parents" comment in there also. i have a job. and haven't received money from my parents in years

There was some midwestern regionals where the entrance fee was 50 for open.

::edit::
but man, if New Years Jam was a night club ... that would be sooo awesome!

As far as I know, there hasn't been a decision about a suite yet. If you're coming to NYJ, at this point don't expect there to be a suite or space will just be available.

Transportation is really easy. If you're flying in you can take the CTA to within a bus ride or short walking distance of the event site. Directions can be found here. The address is

2301 S. Lake Shore Drive
Chicago, Illinois 60616

I know other guys in CIC would disagree, but I don't have a problem with a small fee to actually defray the costs. If the event fees are too high, and I've heard about some absurd fees at past events, then that will suck.

Yeah - the event is cheap. Hotel is discounted. We arrange food, and trips to the grocery store. There is no transportation needed to the event (you just walk over).

*Discussions about the shred room and it's cost are premature.*

At last year's Cornell Jam, we charged a $4 entry fee for everybody, unless you were competing, in which case the fee was only $3. This encouraged lots of people who were on the fence to compete. I thought it was a really good system.

The entry fee has always been 0 dollars for the past 7 years of Scot's contests. Its like 30 or 50 if you think you can beat Scot and win all the entry money. Nobody ever pays because they dont have enough confidence in their game.

If you get any further up Scott's ass, Jon, you could lick the spinach off his fillings.

It was John Goodman. He said:
"So you have no frame of reference, Donny. You're like a child who wanders in in the middle of a movie and wants to know..." and then the Dude cuts him off.

New Year's Jam is not Scott's contest, it's a major Chicago event put together by several different people (Scott included). So, since this is a New Year's Jam thread, let's just forget about what the past entry fees have been in Scott's contests. We haven't even had a formal NYJ meeting yet, so there's no reason to start arguing over entry fees now. But the last few years have not been cash entry/prize competitions, and I hope to keep it somewhat close to that this year. New Year's Jam is a fun event where footbaggers come together to party, shred, hang out and have a good time. It's not a good event to come to if you're looking to make money.

PS - Scott's name has 2 T's at the end. Maybe you should get to know the ass you kiss first, before you dive in
