Insanity Day 32: Core Cardio and Balance
I didn't get up this morning. I waited and did my workout tonight. Sleep has been eluding me lately. Anyways, had a great workout and was able to do both the hip flexor and the shoulder burners for the full time with no breaks. That felt good in a terribly painful kind of way.

Another poor nights slight, another poor morning workout. I was able to at least get through all the hip flexors, but the shoulders burners were another story. One more day of Recovery week and then it gets hard again. Oh dear.

Well, that's it for the recovery week. From reading a few peoples response to Month 2 I'm a little bit worried. But I welcome the challenge and hope to attack it. I was able to drag myself out of bed a little earlier today and could've managed an hours workout before needing to rush and get ready for work. Hopefully i can keep that up. This mornings workout was good. I lost a bit of ground on the Level 1 Drills... my push muscles are probably hating me for ~25 pushups every night before bed.
But I didn't break during the burner phases so I was proud of that to end off this week.

I think I've decided what my game plan is for after Insanity. I'll finish up the first month in January. I'm really missing footbag, so I'd like to take the rest of January and focus on my game while doing strength training 3 days a week (I'm looking at maybe Power Half Hour) Anyone else have good suggestions for a short Strength training workout? Then in Febuary I'll start P90X again. That should mean that by May I can go back to Footbag for the summer and we'll see what next fall brings.

Random Post will be Random. You've been warned.
I did 200 push ups today. Not all at once. Some were regular, some wide, some one footed and some decline. Was fun. Did 50 at once.

Today I thought about what my life at level 50 would look like. I like it.
I want to play footbag tomorrow.
I will be playing more footbag in January, supplemented with body weight exercises.
I'll do 400 jumping jacks tomorrow.
I'm contemplating a paleo diet. It sounds expensive.
I want to stitch and get good at making footbags.
I'm running out of footbags as one at a time mine die. Only have 3 good ones now.
Been shopping for a second car. Need something cheap.
I was disappointed today when I realized Nathan's competition was on for another week. Thought today was deadline for some reason.
Everyone likes Chris's combo, and while I agree the control was insane, I think I had more flow. Oh something. I look forward to more entries too.
I doubt anyone is still reading my blog as they got sick of just seeing random insanity/power90/Ten Minute Trainer stuff and never any footbag.
One thing I decided life at level 50 will include is being a footbag player that people enjoy watching. I'm not good enough to know why people will enjoy watching me yet. Need to work on that. Smooth? Hitting big tricks? Unusual stuff? Who knows. I don't. But I want to mean something to the footbag community one day. I don't want BAP or anything. But I want people to watch video's of me and be impressed by something.
Level 50 will include a house with a fitness room/gym in it. Space for shred on a good surface, indoor bike, full dumbbell set (or really nice selectable set), bench, barbell, big TV with PC or tablet hooked up for workout vids and music and movies and tv for while biking. Possibly in the same room or area would be a nice office. That i would work from. What would I be doing? Not sure yet. I do enjoy PC repair, but could I make a living doing it? I don't know.
There are a lot of levels between where I am and were level 50 is.

A few days ago marked my 5 month anniversary with Staples Canada. I've had 3 different positions while here, my last one actually being a step down from the one before it, but one I enjoy much much more. 5 years is something I both proud of and sad about. On hand, I doubt many people my age have stuck with one company for 5 years. They've either job jumped a bunch or spent so long in school that they've hardly really entered the work force. Surely sticking with a company for 5 years should be worth something. But at the same time I've hated a lot of my time. I still consider myself underpayed, but that's the price I pay for not going to school. There's been many times I've wanted to quit and even searched and applied for other jobs. Had a few interviews along the way. I'm still not sure what I want to do with my life. I know my heart isn't in retail for the long haul. At level 50 I don't see myself working for a big box store. I don't see that at even level 30.
I see two career I could walk down at this point.
Something computer related.
Something fitness related.
I really am enjoying being a technician at Staples. I get to crank music and work through issues and I feel accomplished when I fix something. I applied for a job as a web designer once. I'm still on the fence about it. I've down some light web design in the past and while I did enjoy it, I'm not sure it's something I'm good at. And I'm not sure I could learn the proper things to become good at it. I can do and learn the coding aspect. It's the design that I have trouble with. I'm not creative. I can't put colors together and see that they look good or don't look good together. My wife would say that my attire vouches for this point. And I'm not sure that can truly be taught. Maybe i'm just making excuses and letting them get in my way. I've thought many times about taking A+ technician training. Maybe I should just do it. It can't hurt.
Then there is fitness. I've really enjoyed the journey I started a little over a year ago. I should go to sleep, but I'm on a roll with this typing thing. Could I become a personal trainer? I don't see why not? I'd love to get certified even if it's just to have the knowledge for the sake of knowing. But I can't currently see myself giving others fitness advice (But wait, I do this already to my buddies and co-workers... but it's different when it's just random suggestions and things that I found worked for me. Isn't it?) Wouldn't being certified give me some kind of responsibility? What if I messed up? What if I caused clients injury? Wait, where would I work? This town only has one gym? Do they even have trainers at it? I don't know. I've never gone there. What else could I do career wise with this fitness passion i have found? I don't really know. Research is in order. But not tonight.
I'm gonna finish the calendar video and go sleep.

I read your blog. The insanity workout is one of the things that got me started. Sounds like you've got some things to think through, but i'm going to say something cliche and mention to just have fun with whatever you're doing. Being successful isn't at something isn't worth it if you aren't having fun. I was very successful at my last job, but hated it. I'm much better off now.
Welcome to Flavortown

Thanks for reading Kevin. I agree that doing something fun is really important, and unfortunately too many people spend every day working at a job they hate. Sadly, it takes a while to figure out what you love sometimes.
Day 35: REST.
Does footbag mean the same as rest?
Played for just under an hour. Not entirely sure how I feel about my session. Nothing jumped out and said: "OMG!!! THAT WAS AWESCHUME!" But I hit a few things regardless.
130 clippers (new record)
18 ducking clippers (new record?)
tiltless x20, x22, x16
a few strong side paradox whirls mid string
BARFLY
(ok that jumped out a little)
a bunch of fairy sets to things. Finally unlocking those
half a cookie mid session
My wife made delicious chocolate chip cookies today. I'm trying to eat good. Most guys would be thrilled. My old self would! But I'm trying to get fit and having AWESOME cookies in the house does not help. Oh, I did 400 jumping jacks today.

Whoa... That video was like... COOL.
Props on Barfly and the new records! And also, great you're figuring out your fairies. Sometimes sessions where nothing pops out at you can be the best. I had something similar happen to me. Embrace those sessions. They catch up to you eventually, in a very positive way.

Hopefully that will be the case, Nick. I feel I'm not playing regularly enough at the moment to really see improvements, but I want to try and not backslide too much as I focus on other fitness endeavors.
Insanity Day 36: Fit Test
Still have to do Max Interval Circuit later today. Got my fit test in though. Pushed really hard. Wanna know how I know I pushed really hard? Because I threw up when I was done.

Power Jacks: 50/58/61
Power Knees: 71/89/103
Power Jumps: 26/34/38
Globe Jumps: 3/9/10
Suicide Jumps: 13/15/17
Push-Up Jacks: 22/29/31

I'm absolutely spent and afraid to drink a recovery drink as I think it will just come back up. I wasn't feeling great before I started. Maybe I shouldn't have done it. /shrug

THAT WAS HUMBLING! Wow. I remember Day one when I couldn't believe I had to rest so many times during just the warm up. Soon I was getting through the warm up with no breaks. Now, they went and made the warm up super hard again! Gah!!! I probably took 5 breaks or more in just the warm up. Plus my right quad (or something in that area) has really been bothering me since yesterday's Footbag session. Squating movements really hurt. So, you know, pretty much ever move in this had squats in it. Oh, and since shaun knows I have trouble with Level 1 drills> ski abs > in & outs, he was like, "Hmmm, what can I do to kill Tony? Gee, I know I'll but Level 2 drills together with ski abs, in and outs AND push up jacks and oblique push ups and I'll just call that the TONY KILLER." Owww. Gonna lay off the push ups outside of insanity a little bit. Month 2 is here to kick my ass.

Failure. I wanted to do good this workout. But I just couldn't. I need whatever is up with my quad to heal. What do you do for a pulled muscle? Stretching? I tried a lot of the moves and if it hurt too much I watched them. Level 3 Drills. Bah! But they aren't as bad as power push-ups. Ultimately I'm upset I didn't get a good workout in. I hope I can do more of tomorrows and that my Quad gets better soon.

Really enjoyed the random post. Nice to see other players' thoughts on life, and not just footbag.
I read all your posts, but I'll admit that I mostly skim if it's not footbag/life related.sen wrote:I doubt anyone is still reading my blog as they got sick of just seeing random insanity/power90/Ten Minute Trainer stuff and never any footbag.
Glad you're reading Ken, and I don't blame you for skimming all the fitness junk. It bores me sometimes too, but I want to have a record of it and I feel it's part of my footbag game in a way. Thanks for not giving up on my blog and checking in for the few hack nuggets here and there.
Speaking of Footbag... here's some goals I've come up with:
75 Tiltless by Mar 15/12
40 tiltless consistently by Mar 15/12
150 Clippers by Jan 31/12
10 contacts of Shuffle by Sept 15/12
Infinity x50 by Sept 15/12
And Fitness related Goals:
Down to 170 lbs by Jan 15/12

Insanity Day 38: P90X Chest and Back
Me and my wife have been watching old seasons of The Biggest Loser. She pointed out to me that Even Jillian changes up the workout for her team if they are injured. Insanity was aggravating my quad so she said to use something that wouldn't bother it. P90X chest and Back seemed like a good idea and it worked. Pushed fairly hard and with no squat moves it didn't bother me.

Insanity Day 39: Max Recovery
Taking the rest this morning was smart I think. Quad felt good tonight so I went for it. Wasn't expecting so many Push-Up in a RECOVERY workout so my arms (being still fried from Chest and Back yesterday) did not like it and I had to cut back some reps. Other than that I mostly enjoyed that workout. Sure it was crazy. When Shaun said to raise your heal I yelled at him. I hope to make up my missed Insanity workout. Even if I didn't miss working out that day I still want to finish Insanity on course and having completed all the workouts. I'll either forgo the rest day on Saturday or if I'm feeling well pull a double workout tomorrow or Friday.

Was sore and tired when I woke up this morning so I stayed in bed for the extra hour while I should have been working out. But don't worry! I just finished my workout for the day. I'm sitting at work. I had to hang out for 90 minutes after work to wait for my ride so I figured I'd make good use of the time and I rocked my workout here in the lunchroom. This was made somewhat difficult due to the fact that they did a pot luck meal here today and the smell of all the food mingling together made me a bit nauseous without even starting the workout, but I got through it. Glad to report I only felt a slight discomfort in my injured knee and I went pretty hard through the workout. Will find out just how hard in a few seconds when I look at the data from my HRM. Feel good right now.

Chest and Back from a few days back has killed my bicep muscles. And I really haven't had a day with no push ups since so they are still really sore. Good thing tomorrow is rest day. Hmmm. I liked being over 1000. It should be noted that my HRM kicked out in the first set and I had to restart it. It's been doing that a little bit lately. Maybe the strap needs a new battery? 818 is still a solid burn. Still trying to decide if I should hit my missed Insanity workout from earlier in the week tonight and be back on track. I'll time to kill while waiting for my ride again so I might.

I went back and did the Insanity workout I missed on Tuesday when my quad was really bad and I did P90X Chest and Back instead. Now I can leave this week behind and not feel like I missed anything. Did this one from work again. The floor in the lunch room is really dirty. This means two things 1) getting on the floor sucks! and 2) it's super slippery. Minor issues and I just made sure to use extra caution. First time doing this workout and it was pretty crazy, but doable. Have to say I actually enjoyed it. I must really be going insane.

How, that pic up there is kinda disgusting. Sorry about that. Hope the next one looks better.
Just did X-Stretch. It feels so nice. Been really sore in one way or another since last Saturday. First with my quad and then with my shoulders and back. X Stretch was just what the doctor ordered. Oh, a few random fitness notes:
1) I'm ready Convict Conditioning. It's all about body weight training that many convicts use to survive in prison. They often don't have access to gyms and weight so they have to use what is found in their cell's. I'm really enjoying it and plan to use it for training whenever I'm not doing a DVD Program. I highly recommend checking it out.
2) I found a new favorite TV show. Ninja Warrior. Just check it out!

Feels like I just did this workout... Did it Friday night. Felt I really made improvements this time. Not much else to say. I'm thinking about playing footbag later this evening. We'll see how I feel.
