I sewed my first bag out of a glove too. The leather was thinner though. I still have that crappy bag (from 2004 ).
So do you mean that I should be penetrating at a point further down on the fabric, specifically on the round sides in order to prevent thread showing?
i don't 100% know what i mean ill have to try it. i feel like your stitches should be close an at the round bits stitch like /\/\/\/\/\ ... well less of a degree of this but in an out of bite... your stitches should be like . . like this close. it will take longer but will look better, an be easier to keep consistent.
ill have to give it a try an see how it goes, it looks like a challenge to manipulate the fabric just right.
I just went out to the store, bought four glovers needles, two rolls of thread, a yard or so of hide (about 40 hacks worth) and a TON of this new plastic filler I found that looks amazing. I also bought some steel filler that looks great. Ill post pics of the newest bag when its finished
bite is how far from the edge you are stitching. gather is how much fabric you bunch up onto your thread, idk how to explain it better. it doesn't look like you used any gather on your white bag.
The inside out pic gives you an idea of the gather. As well as bite when it comes down to it. But notice how the fabric doesn't just make a straight line, but seems to wave/weave around the thread. That's what you want. You can see it on the outside of most bags as well.
Allright thank you, also, any advice on getting the needle to puncture better, I cant just poke out all the holes first because that would actually make things more complicated imo lol. I want to get these leather/vinyl ones down, then im moving on to 4 8 12 and 32 leathers, and im also going to start doing extremely nice 2 panel's out of crushed panne or usl with sand or metal/plastic filler, and im going to start doing 4 8 12 and 32 panels for that to I am really enjoying this. Any help is greatly appreciated
Just curious, but why would you want a leather 32, do you play net? Anyways, you can try a thimble to push the needle through or you can use your fingernail, but with a glovers needle, usl and crushed panne should be easy
I have to agree with Jiffy. If you're going for Freestyle I would ditch the leather in a hurry. The bags you have purchased seem to indicate you are going for freestyle. I'd start using old shirts for practice or something similar and then switch to the facile and other recommended materials when you feel confident. Leather is a very stiff material and will hard to sew. If you want to continue using it I think a thimble is the best option personally.
I use a thimble, I know all about why I should be using diff types of bags and etc. I enjoy shredding with the hard leather 2 panels and etc. Im not very good, but i like it, and I am purchasing an abshire bag soon anyways, im going to be starting to sew normal bags after I get this 2 panel down so I can have a nice one thatll last quite a few years.
Here is my 7th bag. After making one for my best friend for christmas, I was inspired to make a 4 colour bag. (inspiration also comes from an 8 colour bag of the same design on here)
I'm still using Microsuede and dental floss. They are going well but I really want to get some much brighter colours though.
The dirty white and blue one is my 5th. It's about 2 months old now. I use it every day and it's holding up really well. Washed it about 4 times, though it doesn't show.
or do u mean "hack" ehh whatever, good choice with the abshire though
