So, the net club in Chicago is still looking for a name. Chicago Inner Rectangle was a joke name Scot came up with that only he, Cory and I seem to like, probably cuz we're the only ones that get it. Here are some of the ones we will be voting on tomorrow:
Windy City Sky Scrapers (my idea)
Windy City Footbag (Tommy - pictured above)
Windy City Crush (me)
Windy City Crushers (Vince's mod) Great job! Take a day off, buddy!
Chicago Lake Coast Kickers (Scot)
Third Coast Footbag (Tommy)
Your opinions?

I like CIR too but when that blog was set up (by Yves Archambault) no one said anything about being against the name. It wasn't until some time after that a few players voiced their opinions. It's more of a nickname of sorts for Scot, Cory and I. Quite frankly, none of them really hit like Chicago Inner Circle or CroBar. I'll just vote on mine just because they're mine.
There was some talk Between Scot and PT Lovern about our name being some offshoot of the Chaos club since it has roots on Illinois. In fact I think PT suggest more of a team approach like Chicago Bears and so on just to help acquire sponsorships. I came up with CTA = Chicago Team Anarchy. But 'team' and 'anarchy' don't work well together. Basically it was the first thing out of my head I didn't think it was worth more development.
Well, whatever happens with the name, I just can't wait to get our jerseys later this year.

Sunday set session with Tommy and Scot. We hacked with some kid while we were waiting for Scot at the Metra Station. Got his # and we're gonna give him a call. Long power session then stretched out. Practiced serves and returns then we rotated 2 vs 1 the rest of the afternoon. I was setting better than usual. Almost to a fault. I probably should have crushed a bunch of good bumps I was given. Hit a few week-ass sole pushes and not much else. Blasted a standing toe sweep (thai round kick) that hit the tape but still rocketed another 20 or so feet past the back line. I contacted both attempts of a scissoring toe spike thingy that launched about 2 1/2 stories in the air and about 40 feet out of bounds. It felt great just to connect but all that heat means absolutely nothing if I can't aim it toward the opposite court.
Ugh, I was a total wuss at the net again. Be more aggressive!
After work, I ended up riding to Welles again and played against the wall. Long rallies just to get warm. Left bump drills. Some short rallies trying to bump> kill. Scuff practice. Pulldown practice (ssssoooo weak) and a very brief and frustrating round of sweep practice that turned into me blasting the wall with round kick serves until I got tired.
Net session after work Tuesday 5:30pm @ Welles. so far it's me, Tommy and Jake.

This was the result from the first round of voting. Any names that didn't get any votes gets eliminated and the 6 of us start the next round of voting begins. Cory split his vote to 1/2 CLCK and 1/2 to WCF.
Windy City ComMotion (1)
Windy City Crush (1)
Chicago Lake Coast Kickers (1.5)
Windy City Footbag (2.5)
I started the second round by voting for my Windy City Crush In a surprise move, Vince voted on mine too. Now, if Cory goes with Scot's CLCK and we might end up with a 3 way tie at the end of this round. If Cory goes with Tommy's WCF, Scot's CLCK would get eliminated after the round. In which case the next round of voting Scot may go with my WCC (he mentioned that it would be his second choice) and I would some how need to convince one more person to vote Windy City Crush for our club name.
I need to start a smear campaign against Windy City Footbag. Somebody get me some dirt on WCF!!!!!!! Unpaid parking tickets, adult video rental late fees, pictures of ugly relatives... anything!

5 people on the court today, all begginers except for Tommy. Both twins showed up and Vince made it out. As you would expect, not a lot of setting going on so not a lot of spikes. Using a 5 man rotation, we did hand toss rallies, 2 serves, games, then back to hand toss rallies.
True to form, I didn't hit any big spikes until games were over and we went on to a second round of hand tosses. Not sure if Vince even meant to set me but it was there so I hit it with a standing sweep. The swing didn't feel all that great but the impact of the bag hitting my shoes was solid and it ended up hitting Josh in the head! If his noggin wasn't there the spike might have landed out. Jake later said that it knocked the glasses crooked on his brothers head. Later Vince shanked a return into mid court. I turned around with my back squared to the net and hit a barely hopping sunback that actually went *over* the net and landed *inbounds* I did manage to set Vince for some sole pushes and that felt good too. Not a bad session.
Jake and I stayed a bit after everyone else left to kick around a takraw with some people in the park that showed up for the free concert. It was a nice way to wind down and end the session.
Later at LaRAZA, I had some good conversations with Nathan about footbag and school. Felt like a friday. Wish it was Friday. No such luck, it's gonna be Wednesday. Need to give my legs a rest tomorrow
Edit: DUDE!!!!!!!! You're AWESOME!!!

Drilling suggestions for 2, 3, 4 or 5 players interested in improving specific net skills:
-power: 1 touch passing involving 2 people
-power: 2 touch passing involving two people (a set and an over)
-power: 1 touch passing involving three people (V formation with 1 player in the hot spot (i.e., both players always kick back to the hot spot kicker))
-serve practice/ bump practice: 20, then switch.
-spike drills: one player hand tosses, other player practices 1 spike at a time. Alternate form involves practicing 2 spikes at a time, with setter's option to set either spike. Digger (s) on other side is optional.
-spike drill: one hand tosser to 2, 3, or 4 spikers who all practice the same spike in assembly line fashion. Spike, then file to back of line. Requires numerous bags of course, and a shagger.
-dig practice: one player stands at net and throws or paddles bags at a player's feet on opposite side of net, 4-6 feet from the net. Quick throws to increase foot speed and reaction time.
-advanced: power 1 touch passing involving 2 people: one player always lobs, other player always hits low line drive "offense"
I always try to implement these drills in Santa Cruz, with mixed success, depending on the players who attend any particular session. At minimum, we always do power, 1 on 1 or V, serve-return drills, and 10 minutes of hand toss rally practice over the net. This just improves play throughout the session. During lulls between games, I always toss my own bags for spike practice.
Keep in mind that during a practice session you can either play 5 games during which you hit a total of 50 serves or so, or you can drill serves during warm-up for 10 minutes, hitting 80 in that shorter period, and them play your games. The same can be said for all of the basic skills.
How quickly one improves is a function of motivation of the players to improve and increasing productivity of one's practice time. Most players in Santa Cruz are only interested in playing games, as opposed to drilling, and it is easy to see that their progress is slow and uneven.

I kick it with trunk chef elf and liz luck key my.
Last Thursday I biked downtown and played a few singles games with Vince.
Saturday I biked against some strong winds to get to Peacefest. Two Square with Tom (I think we split 2-2) and lots of good hacking. Saw Ken from Lane.
Last Sunday Tommy picked me up and we played with Scot at Union Park. Long power kicking then many rounds of 2 on 2. Tommy and I ate at the mexican place on Lincoln and Addison after the session.
Tuesday was Tommy Vince & twins (blogged in previous post)
Thursday I biked to Taste of Chicago and tried to shred. Did some decent hacking but circles were few and far between
Friday I biked downtown and payed 7 games of singles with Vince (I finished 5-2) then hacked another couple hours at Taste.
Saturday I biked downtown again to play 6 games of since with Vince (4-2)
Sunday I biked to Taste for the last day and played about 7 pick-up games of doubles. Got my first block! I was setting well most of the day, dug a couple spikes and serves inbounds more often than not. No hacking afterwards.
My left knee has a slight ache, right hip is a little tight, and both legs are are completely tired. They don't feel terrible though. I'm sure that may change later this morning.
