I hope you will agree this post is in the right forum cos there wont be any video in it...

I was discussing the idea with the Sydney crew, about somehow archiving some of the older, rarer footbag footage that exists around the world to keep for posterity etc. There may be a point 10 years down the track, if the sport does become more widespread, where old footage of the greats is a rare thing and in demand. Its part of the history and foundations of the sport.

Im really talking old VHS footage that was around before internet video. Stuff like UQAM Jam, stuff from pre-2000 worlds etc. Ive seen tapes like this before (i believe Lynton Stephens had a pile) and im sure there exist other tapes like it across the world. Steve Goldberg probably has alot too.

So im wondering if there should be some effort on the part of the community to restore, or at the very least transfer to DVD, these kinds of tapes and keep them in a safe location. These old VHS tapes will only get more degraded with time and the technology to play them is also disappearing.

I believe i would be willing to work on this project, perhaps in the New Year, and a fellow Sydney shredder will also help. But i guess what im asking for is any ideas, suggestions, opinions on this, and also looking for anyone who has footage of this kind that they would be willing to send to have archived.

I tried to do this a bunch of years ago, but didn't have the right equipment. So I have a bunch of old VHS tapes, but captured through my camcorder... When I have money I plan on buying a tv tuner. I guess the only problem I can see is getting permission from the older players who made these videos. When I copied, it was only for myself, so that I could watch without needing a VCR (which less people have nowadays), plus, back in the day before internet videos, I would watch the same VHS tapes over and over and over until they stopped working, so having a digital copy was supposed to help with that.

A thread like this has been started in the past -- was that you then also, Ian?

Even these days... I have seen practically no non-internet footage. This would definately be a valuable project.
