Favoritism

They remove topics that embarrass other people, but leave ones up that embarrass me.

Losers!
Hi Sam

I have removed the topic 'Jeremy's latest insult'. It did not involve any serious discussion and instantly became a platform for various people to inflame the situation further for whatever personal satisfaction, and the moderation will not tolerate this.
Whilst i understand you have some personal grievances and perhaps you didnt envision it becoming as inflamed as it did, there are other ways in which to deal with them that do not involve public airing and you must consider the ramifications of your posts and whether they will achieve anything more than angering individuals further.

Ian

untouchable apparently

Hmmm. both from austalia! G.... I wonder if that was coincidence?! Havnt removed other topics where I make a jackass of myself (which is fine as long as they leave everyone elses up too)... hmm coincidence? NOPE.

This is blatent! I dont think someone that would do this is worthy of being in a position of power (lol on a forum). But really though..

My favorite part was when Jeremy said I shouldnt take anything on a forum seriously, then c-fan came in and said Jeremy is a boring idiot loser (lol not that he actually said that) and then jeremy got all mad.

You are a flat out loser Jeremy. Calling on your friend to remove a topic because it made you look bad...

Go ahead and deny it.

So when I'm a rockstar all my doofs will still be on record, but when Jeremy runs for little bitch of the year, his record will be clean!

Hahah this is fun. You probably should have just left it up King Stupid monkey! It would have been the right thing to do, .. that OR delete ALL topics like that.

YOU DELETE WHATEVER TOPICS YOU WANT FOR YOUR FRIENDS!

Nice... how can you resign again?

Also I just reread the discussion rules and it says that this is the least moderated forum and that for a topic to be valid, oppinions must be backed up, not just one liners like you suck or whatever. In the Jeremy's latest insult I wrote paragraphs about my oppinion and then everyone else discussed . It was a bunch of FUCK you, no fuck you, no your ***, no you are.. THAT IS NOT WHAT IT WAS! It was an honest portrayal of Jeremy being a JERK.

I'm just sayin, you deleted a topic that was not violating the rules of discussion.

What gives you the right to do this?!

Fuck this bullshit.

When I saw that there were 4 replies, I expected at least 2 or 3 to be you replying to yourslef...but all 4?

New record.

I think the root point Sam is trying to raise is a valid one: the mod team should be careful not to selectively enforce the rules.

The "insult Jeremy" thread that was deleted violated forum policy, and its deletion was therefore justified. In order to avoid the specter of favoritism, all threads which violated the same policy should also have been deleted. The Eric Chang PhD one is a prime example.

Do I think the mods deleted the Jeremy insult thread because Ian and Jeremy are both Australian? No, I don't. I believe they removed it because it violated forum policy, AND Jeremy asked it be removed. In an ideal world (forum), users wouldn't have to ask for threads to be removed: threads that violate forum policy would just be removed automatically.

To sum up: Sam's fundamental point is a good one. If the rules are going to be enforced, they should be enforced uniformly.

Agreed.

Favoritism has nothing to do with it. As an Australian footbagger whose had multiple ban threats (despite them being unreasonable), I'd know :P. I definately think thats a really weak argument. Next time i disagree with some random yank and a forum moderator who is also American criticises my use of language (when the real issue is the other persons poor argument), I'll just immediately assume theres a case of favoritism

Its threads like this that should embarrass you, Sam. I was kind of impressed when you responded to that other thread and even apologised (which wasn't necessary but a good move anyway) but now that just all goes out the window.

Whether or not the whole thread deletion thing is unreasonable or not is irrelevant and I don't think that should even be discussed, because that thread shouldn't have needed to be there in the first place. If someone makes an unreasonably harsh personal attack, then it just reflects on that person and everybody reading it is going to take it in - don't think they don't. Going and making a thread about it is only going to compound the problem.

It went out the window when it was DELETED. This is bullshit. King Monkey is bullshit and Jeremy is BULLSHIT!

Actually, in an ideal world users wouldn't bicker like infants and throw tantrums when things don't go their way.
Yes there is a lot of crap that goes on around here, but instead of constantly dumping on the mods why don't users just show some maturity. Mods are not your mothers, we're not going to follow you around and wipe up the spew that leaks into your posts.

Is it really that hard to just PM a mod when you see something that might need to be removed or taken down?
They remove topics that embarrass other people, but leave ones up that embarrass me.
Here's a tip, stop embarrassing yourself.

The mods are clearly overwhelmed by the amount of crap that gets posted. We're doing the best we can. If you want the forums to be better make them better yourself by posting better content. Take some responsibility for yourselves.

I was not involved with the removal of the thread in question so I'm not sure who asked for what to be done. But, let me say that if users make reasonable and timely requests the mods will oblige as best as possible. We're not going to go back and clean up crap from days, weeks, months, years ago. But if you breach the rules and can't edit out your mistake, or see another user's breach and want it removed, PM a mod straight away and we'll try to deal with it.

It wasn't his thread, I started it, and he had it deleted because he didn't like it. How can you say this is acceptable? Fuck you guys!

Posted: 20 Nov 2008 21:41
by QuantumBalance
YOU DIDNT EVEN FOLLOW YOUR OWN FUCKING RULES!

IF A THREAD DEGENERATES IT MAY BE LOCKED!

ONLY SPAM THREADS MAY BE DELETED.. which it WASNT!

You guys are like the George Bush administration of modified. I'm pretty sure there's no better way to sum it up.

Posted: 20 Nov 2008 21:50
by King Monkey
So you would like the thread returned in locked form, to add to the pile of posts that you believe embarrass you, which you have been pestering to have deleted?

by QuantumBalance
Yes please!

I could add that you began the topic with a threat of violence, which is not tolerated and according to the rules, is to be deleted. Im not sure why you think your topic was so valid. I wont be returning the topic, i just wanted you to demonstrate once again, for good measure, how ridiculous you are behaving.

Actually I didnt threaten violice you IDIOT!

I said If we met in person I would challenge you to physical combat.

ARE YOU INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND HOW THAT IS NOT A THREAD OF VIOLENCE but a promise to a proposal of mutual combat!?

COMPREHEND MUCH?!

Posted: 20 Nov 2008 22:21
by QuantumBalance
dylander:
Firstly, you say that you will challange Jeremy to physical combat the next time you see him in the first post do you not? Promising to make a violent challenge constitutes a physical threat and the rules clearly state that such threats will be deleted.
Moreover, wanting to point out a particular users flaws, which is the stated purpose of that thread: Quote:
I think his comment IS antagonistic and hateful, and I would like to bring it to light and contest it.
does not constitute the sort of serious discussion the section is intended for. It clearly states in the discussion section rules that such threads will be deleted. I am fully aware that there are a range of other threads in discussion that could be deleted, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to go back and delete every innapropriate and rule breaking post.
Your have aired your greviences both to the mods and to the boards in multiple posts (which constitutes spamming the boards). I suggest you let others see what you have written about the issue and make up their own minds. If you continue posting insulting posts about this you are risking getting yourself banned, and having just come off a ban, this one will be significantly longer.

a challenge to a duel is not the same as a threat of beating someone up, regardless of weather you say it is or not

Posted: 20 Nov 2008 22:21
by dyalander
If you cannot see how that post was inappropriate, and how that thread was also inappropriate then you need to seriously consider why you post here and use these boards. Clearly what you think you should be able to post here is not the same as what its actually allowed. It seems to me that posting here invariably leads to more trouble than good.

[LEGOMAN] 10:33 pm: how come im not b7
[QuantumBalance] 10:33 pm: but man kyle, jeremy is getting away with THREAD MURDER!
[LEGOMAN] 10:33 pm: from modified
[dyalander] 10:33 pm: calling people out is not serious discussion, and again if you don't see that clearly your not going to get much joy for posting
here
[QuantumBalance] 10:33 pm: just because he finally looked like the jerk that he is
[QuantumBalance] 10:34 pm: dude ive been posting here for longer than u have son, and you know what i usually post?! tips on how people can get
better, music i have composed, videos i make
[dyalander] 10:34 pm: He often looks like a jerk.
[QuantumBalance] 10:34 pm: no but this time it was apparent, he couldnt hide behind his intellect, in like the space of 5 minutes he contradicted
himself
[QuantumBalance] 10:34 pm: it was beautiful
[LEGOMAN] 10:34 pm: i made the legoman fan club topic
[LEGOMAN] 10:34 pm: that was a great topic
[QuantumBalance] 10:34 pm: and instead of locking it, it was deleted because he is friends with a mod
[QuantumBalance] 10:35 pm: but i see that no matter what i say to you
[LEGOMAN] 10:35 pm: remembere that time anz was like
[LEGOMAN] 10:35 pm: IGNORE LIST LOL
[QuantumBalance] 10:35 pm: it wont mean anything
[QuantumBalance] 10:35 pm: so you guys want me to just ignore it and forget it right?
[QuantumBalance] 10:35 pm: and ure saying if i dont you will ban me again
[LEGOMAN] 10:35 pm: and now hes like i wont shred with him because modified is serious business
[QuantumBalance] 10:36 pm: kyle!!! <3
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: hey sam how come you get banned i dont
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: i mean like
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: i shit post all the time
[QuantumBalance] 10:36 pm: dude... because im more hardcore than u
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: i make like 3 serious posts a month
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: D:
[dyalander] 10:36 pm: I want you to think seriously about how you can change your posting habits so that the positive posts are maximised while
the negative ones are elimintaed
[QuantumBalance] 10:36 pm: DUDE YOU MODS DONT EVEN PUT UP THE NEW BANNERS WE ARE MAKING!
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: sam
[LEGOMAN] 10:36 pm: uh
[LEGOMAN] 10:37 pm: mike has to do that
[LEGOMAN] 10:37 pm: D:
[QuantumBalance] 10:37 pm: I hear you dylander
[QuantumBalance] 10:37 pm: I would like you to think that it modified shouldnt be so oppressive
[QuantumBalance] 10:37 pm: you guys literally are altering the flow of thought to your liking
[QuantumBalance] 10:37 pm: and at your whim, and non uniformly
[QuantumBalance] 10:37 pm: whats worse?!
[QuantumBalance] 10:38 pm: at least you CAN skim over what i say, but I cant read what you guys delete
[QuantumBalance] 10:38 pm: kyle can you come to seattle by tomorrow? jam!
[QuantumBalance] 10:38 pm: and i think thats my final point dylander of little time
[LEGOMAN] 10:39 pm: i cant make it
[LEGOMAN] 10:39 pm: im poor
[QuantumBalance] 10:39 pm: i know.. me too!
[dyalander] 10:39 pm: But that whole thread was simply negativity. Why would you want to dwell on it . Anyway, I think we've both said what we
wanted to.
[LEGOMAN] 10:40 pm: ian why arent my topics deleted
[QuantumBalance] 10:40 pm: so why wont you put it back and lock it? its not fair that thats the only one that gets deleted because one of you
friends wanted it to
[LEGOMAN] 10:40 pm: like my joke eric chang thread hasnt been deleted
[LEGOMAN] 10:40 pm: i dotn w ant it to be deleted because its epic
[LEGOMAN] 10:40 pm: but my point stands
[QuantumBalance] 10:40 pm: i dont think ure helping me legoman
[LEGOMAN] 10:40 pm: no i want to know
[LEGOMAN] 10:41 pm: I WANT TO KNOW WHY PEOPLE TOLERATE ME ON MODIFIED
[dyalander] 10:41 pm: The proper solution isn't to put it back, the proper solution would be to delete all the other unacceptable posts. We can't do
that. We don't have the time. The defence that there's other unacceptable crap is not valid.
[QuantumBalance] 10:41 pm: why are you guys determining that all these thoughts arent valid?
[QuantumBalance] 10:41 pm: what gives you the right to determine that?
[QuantumBalance] 10:41 pm: its not porn.... it WASNT a threat of violence
[LEGOMAN] 10:41 pm: man this shit is like
[LEGOMAN] 10:42 pm: serious
[LEGOMAN] 10:42 pm: i cant take it
[QuantumBalance] 10:42 pm: lol
[QuantumBalance] 10:42 pm: dude i know im like.. damn i wish i still smoked pot..
[dyalander] 10:42 pm: Its simple, posts simply designed to bring other users down are not acceptable. Jeremy may have started it, but regardless
those threads don't belong here.
[Footbag Chat]: LEGOMAN has left at 10:43 pm
[QuantumBalance] 10:43 pm: So, in the future other ones will "slip through the cracks" but ones that effect friends of mods will get deleted?
[QuantumBalance] 10:43 pm: affect*
[dyalander] 10:44 pm: No, ones that anyone specifically bring to our attention will also get deleted so long as the mods have the time
[QuantumBalance] 10:44 pm: will that time excuse be used when its not the mods friends?
[QuantumBalance] 10:45 pm: you are creating a loop hole that can not me checked and balanced
[dyalander] 10:45 pm: That is the only thread we have received a direct complaint about this month. If the trend continues time will not be an issue.
[QuantumBalance] 10:45 pm: thank you for your time then
[dyalander] 10:46 pm: In the end there is a level of trust required of the mods. Clearly you don't trust the mods, and again, this begs the question,
why do you post here if your standards are so different and you don't trust the mods, its only ever going to end badly.
[QuantumBalance] 10:47 pm: because i was here before the mods.. why would you kick me out?
[dyalander] 10:49 pm: Its not a matter of who was here first. Its a matter of standards. If you are only staying here because you were here first,
again, its only going to bring you stress, you'd be better off mioving to a better suited environment. Modified has changed, you may say for the
worse, but this isn't going to make it batter.
[QuantumBalance] 10:50 pm: heard.. alright I hope you enjoy the environment you are creating..
