Footbag is not a real sport!

Yeah I had a similar argument with a "friend" of mine about footbag... he came up with the same rationale that for something to be a sport, it had to feature competitiveness and a way to score objectively... which therefore takes away ARTISTIC talent from sports, in my opinion. This is to say basically that sports can only be competitive on a brain/brawn level, and not an artistic level as well.

Its people like that,that I hate so much. Footbag should be considered a real sport. If you look at it we don't get paid millions of dollars and only play part of the year. And in those sports that you make that much you don't even have to play that good as long as you say have a 5 year contract for $15 million you basically could slack off for 5 years if you wanted to. In footbag we don't get paid anything(unless you win a competition that has a cash prize) we just play it for the fun of it and the feeling of hitting something new. As far as I see it footbag is more of a sport then,hockey,football,basketball and baseball.

Well, regarding the subjective judging, and Shred Vs. Routines, one could say that a freestyle routine is really more of a PERFORMANCE rather than a sports competition. Other activities that feature skilled physical components in competition are not necessarily sports. Consider a piano playing contest: one performer's physical skills and their art in competition agains another's. I don't think anyone would consider a music contest a matter of sport.

We don't need to be hung up on the definitions of words like "sport." In a way, we get the better of this deal, as footbag can be both sport and art, and both can be measured in competition if that is a player's desire. There may be artistry in basketball or football, but their art never counts for anything in their limited focus on "sport".

anything that requires massive amounts of hand eye corrdination speed agility and stamina is a sport to me...... especially if it invoves a ball (footbag) thingy.....

some people do get a little carried away sum think darts is a sport......no.....

Heh, well... I'm a musician, so to the music/sport comment, hmmm... (Ever tried Marching Band? That's some painful shit.). But anyways yeah I suppose it could be classified more as a "Performance Sport".. that makes sense to me. I was going to say more but totally forgot.

Oh and lets not forget the drinking games!! err sorry I meant the drinking Sports! 20 questions is a sport too (btw well done Splint on your lead in that sport we call "footbag trivia").

I throw darts at a very high level, it's very competitive and physically draining to excerise the movements with the degree of precision required to win at the highest level.

This is normally just a dick waving exercise anyway, to put what you watch/do in your spare time above what other people do, but I'm going to post anyway.

By their definition, only certain parts of freestyle are subjective, right? Shred 30 would be considered a sport but 2 minute routine wouldn't be. Sick 3 isn't a sport, but most rippin run is. Also important to keep in mind that 2 minute routine is only 'half a sport' if you like, since objective standards are paired with subjective artistic standards in judging.

I for one like the partly subjective part in our sport, I think (along with most other sports similar to us) that the vast majority of players will be able to tell what is artistic and what is, well, less artistic or less worthy of artistic points I mean. Ie, someone who does a sloppy routine with poor form, doesn't make a good show of things and doesn't apply his or her routine to his music in some way, is easy to spot over someone who does the opposite, so it doesn't seem so subjective when you put it that way.

But what about Shred 30 it has point in it? Also figure skating doesn't have points. Your just judged on your performance, which is done in freestyle footbag to. And figure skating is considered a sport.
