Got called in to work today but instead of my usual ranting I'm going to try and be positive and make the most of it. I'm really loving my new camera and learning about photography. A good photo is like a well drawn illustration but just produced a little faster. I enjoy viewing other people's galleries and just getting lost for hours in their images. To be more specific, I browse proffesionals and hobbiests' galleries. I get annoyed at shitty cell phone/webcam shots.

With fall here, I'm eager to get out and about and shooting the cliched orange trees lining the neighborhood streets. I'm actually looking forward to the first big snow fall for pretty much the same reason.

I recently sent my resume to a photo studio looking for a part time assistant but they had quickly filled the position. Damn.

I just ordered a FotoDiox hand strap for my Canon. I want top get travel friendly tripod soon.

It would be cool to go hiking and take hundreds upon hundred of pics. Oh yeah, need to get more storage too.

Does getting together with all the bikers and going for a group ride sound interesting? Like a mobile shit talking session

I want to take some staged freestyle shots.

Photos, photos, photos...

zeke how's the net scene coming along in chicago? ya'll got regular sesions yet?

we can keep 4 in on the court in nashville but it's been a good year since we got a new kicker. maybe we need to hire a PR agent.

Dat, here's my Flickr account

Elliott, no, sessions are still sporadic but on extremely rare occasions we can get as many as 6-7 players on 2 courts when everything goes right. Although I'm a little dissapointed about not playing regularly, I'm still just as excited about Net as ever. I just need to be patient and look forward to next year.

well i have to say i'm a little dissapointed as well. cory & scott seemed so pumped after worlds... sorry to hear they deflated. you guys have potential to have a great net club. speaking from my own observations 4-square players can pick up net faster than most freestylers. our last net addition ben.v moved down from maine - - 4-square kicker - - never played net in his life went from novice-intermediate inside 1 month. it doesn't take long for open level players to turn it back on come tournament season next year, however newbies need practice year round - it doesn't hurt for open players too. it's nice to be self taught but newer players really net a coach, otherwise bad habits tend to develop & progression stops. keep me updated. & if all else fails come to nashville or memphis.

Oh, I think it's more of a matter of everyone's work schedules and family obligations being so different. Also, they're about an hour+ drive into the city where CIC regular sessions are held. We've had 3 or 4 sessions where Net, Shred and Squares have been played at the same time so that is very promissing. Can't wait for next summer.

Comcast service has been down in the area for the past couple days and it's annoying. Both my drives won't burn anything, WTF? I heard it may rain tomorrow so I'll get started on getting bodybag print ready. Still gotta pay rent & bills. No camera strap yet  :( Nieces b-day party this Saturday :!: :!: :!:

EDIT:
Back to Net & Squares. I think 4S has helped me to fully appreciate the usefulness of touch and shot placement while playing net. I've mentioend this many times before but I HATE playing squares against Net players. So hard to score on them. Jeremy Mirken is a perfect example. At the past NYJ he entered the Squares tournament and was seeded fairly low in my pool. He had 2-3 good runs at king and was a threat to win and advance to finals before Reile and I even scored 5 points. Later, I played 2-square against Jeremy and he wore me out. He was a defensive machine sending back just about every shot I gave him. I ended up making many mistakes against him due to fatigue and frustration. Good solid defense made him a monster. How did he become such a great defender? My theory is that playing Net was key to his impressive defense. If you can dig spikes in a net court, defending a 7 foot square, where no spiking is allowed, is child's play.

Also, I'd love to catcha ride with Scot & Cory the next time they're headed out to your area.

I just want to reiterate two ideas which can help you to continue to progress at net even when you don't have 4 players on a net court or even 2 players on a net court.

1) Kicking power with another person (1 touch back and forth) with about 7-10 feet of distance between you is the BEST way to improve your net game if you have a partner available.

2) If no partner is available, as boring as you may find it, kick against a wall. You can practice all of your kicks aganst a surface that will ALWAYS return the bag back to you at an angle you should expect. this is the quickest way to get kicks, likely 500 kicks in 5-7 minutes, as opposed to 200 in 5 minutes of power with a partner.

See you soon.

Thanks, Jeremy, I'll have to try both those ideas out.

I clicked about a thousand photos this weekend since I've discovered the burst mode on my camera.

Arnold: Oh, good cuz Ali and I were debating whether or not you were gay.

Ali: No, we weren't... we both agreed he was gay. That's not debate, thats consensus!

Uno: :x

Uno: Fuck both you guys! (and what the fuck does consensus mean?)
