Qualities that cause a good style.
Qualities that cause a good style.
Hi,
I would like it very much if everyone could post what they think are the most important qualities a player with good looking style needs to have.
I will start as an example:
Accurate/controlled sets - not sets that go all over the place and cause you to lose control.
Even dexing speed - your leg moves at as constant a speed as possible during a dex to make it look smooth and controled.
Good posture - holding yourself so your shoulders and back are upright and your arm motions are somewhat controlled.
That's all I got so far.

It's interesting you made a thread on this today cause while I was at work I was thinking to myself what really makes style. I thought about it for a while, but making difficult tricks seem simple or easy is what it is all about, control ,flow , consistancy, rhythm, simple = effortless

I agree. I came to that same conclusion a few days ago when I was analyzing my style or lack there of - hence I created this thread.HooD wrote:- effortlessness
What I really want to find out is what creates an effortless appearance - in my opinion it's the things I stated before, controlled consistant sets, even dexing speed and good posture.

I don't necessarily agree with effortlessness, I think it depends on the move - for example I really dig Ales's style particualrly his mid run attomics. He attacks the trick - you can see the effort in the trick, I prefer this style to the ultra hippy (as in lots of hip swivel) style which makes them look easy. For other moves I really dig the laid back effortless look, spins for example.

Effortless is probably the wrong word for what I was trying to describe. The quality that I think is necessary is more... consistency in correct execution, which while may not always be effortless, it certainly makes things easier. Ales looks like he's expending a lot of energy in his atomic sets but if they weren't being done correctly and consistently he wouldn't be able to do them so well. While they look intense I'm sure they're pretty easy for him. Sometimes you'll see players who really look like they're struggling with a concept or have to power through something and often times it just ends up looking like garbage.
I think moves look like garbage when the player is chasing after their set. If the set is more than few inches off from where it's supposed to be, then for me it breaks up the string and interferes with flow.

I'm thinking about something... and there is a very high chance it has something to do with footbag.

-ON THE BEAT: RHYTHM and TIMING CONTROL.
I think being able to delay or stomp your support leg ON the beat, is the pinnacle of play. just like music or comedy or dance
-no flying monkey claws
-no "tada! you like that string? huh? bitches?" mid routine (I know its a breather, but do something else...MAKE em clap, dont ask)
the music gotsta be hapn'n. its like hiphop, i can stand good beats/bad flows rather than good flow/bad beat.

Plain, with everything.
