Also today I "learnt" at university that if somebody is a long way away they appear smaller, but if they get closer they appear bigger, even though in reality they don't actually change size at all. Yeah, so glad I decided to psychology this semester...
Jeremy
Went for a jog today, starting to get into shape for football. Didn't take it too hard, but it was good. Google maps tells me I ran about 5.5 km and it took me 24 minutes 30 (google maps didn't give me that time, the stopwatch on my ipod did
) - which I think is a pretty good time for my first run. I'd like to get the time under 20 minutes but I'm not sure if I'll give myself that chance or not - I'm only going to do these runs for a couple of weeks and then move on to mainly short distance work. Still it feels good.

Yeah it's pretty mental. I got up today at 7am and went for a jog, then had some uni stuff to finalise - so I was busy from 7am until 9:30.
A couple of years ago I set myself a goal of always being productive though - everything I do, I have to be able to justify in some kind of long term vision, so it's not too bad. I'm succeeding most of the time. I have a lot of stuff on, on the days that seem small too - like last Sunday we had a BBQ and then I did a uni assignment and then went out to a stand up comedy night. Next Sunday I'll probably be studying and then we're having a Starsky and Hutch movie night (the things I do for girls
). Sunday after that I'm going on a 40 km walk (weather permitting).
Doing nothing is for chumps.

That's not even slightly impressive.Jeremy wrote:Sure. My current time table;

lol.
Anyway I just wanted to express my euphoria at the Tasmanian premier (Paul Lennon) stepping down today (a bit like the governor if you're American I guess). So fucking good. I've been listening to the Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye on repeat since I heard the news. He's my least favourite politician in the world. Also the new premier - David Bartlett - is a friend of mine on facebook, and a really cool guy. I was saying a few weeks ago that I'd be prepared to vote Liberal at the next election just to try and get rid of Lennon but that won't be necessary. It's hard to beat the rush from politics. Americans will know what I'm talking about when Obama wins the presidential election.

So I just had a footbag nightmare! It was crazy. Well not really a nightmare, just a bad dream, but still.
The dream was that Hobart hosted the Aus champs again, but the people hosting it somehow kept it secret (which is impossible) and I only found out it was on the day it was on. Went along and it was being hosted by some school teachers and their students. Saw the first event - shred 30 - and nobody could do anything other than a 1 add. Asked to compete and they wouldn't let me because I hadn't registered in time. Had a massive argument until they let me, and then got on stage and found that my shirt was ripped, so for some reason sat down and sewed on the missing buttons until they told me I was an idiot and to leave - which is about when I woke up.
I subscribe to the biological view on dreams (which isn't surprising since I'm studying 2 biology subjects, psychology and geography), which is basically that they don't have much meaning. I guess in this case it could be seen as evidence for the cognitive perspective, since I do have exams starting on Monday and last night was very frustrating because I left my zoology text book at work, and need to go get it and get my boss to unlock the door today since otherwise it won't be open until Tuesday, so this could have been a metaphorical expression of my frustration. I think the early psychodynamic view is rubbish, and the modern view sounds the same as the cognitive view to me. Obviously these perspectives will be part of my psychology exam next week, so I thought it couldn't hurt to mention them :p

God it's been a long time since I've posted here. What's been going on?
Well I've started doing uni part time and working full time. I've taken a job as data analyst and it's good money. Still working for The Wilderness Society (www.wilderness.org.au). I actually have no qualifications for this job at all, and they were looking for people with uni degrees and 3 years industry experience but having interviewed their potentials they completely randomly offered the job to me instead, and I took it.
I still love uni and learning about biology but I just see climate change especially as such a big challenge that I want to do the most I absolutely can do help the problem. In this case I'm basically putting my personal aspirations aside and doing what I think is right for the world. Because even though all I really do is read through pages of data and write reports on it, those reports help make my organisation run more efficiently and that helps it do even more for it's cause. Sorry, I didn't want to be preachy.
I'm playing Aussie Rules Football for my university team, and we're having a really shit year, but I enjoy it anyway. Actually to be honest what I enjoy is the pain from it. I don't mean that in a sexual sadist manner, but as a validation that I'm alive and trying my hardest at something.
I played a game of mixed netball the other day, which was heaps of fun, despite having my arse handed to me by a girl. Whatever, she was hot and I gave away a lot of penalties for "contact"
Where's my sleazy smiley?
I've played footbag a bit lately. Just schooling basics of course, but I'm trying to organise a weekly session again (2pm Salamanca lawns on Sundays). Last Sunday we had a small turnout but a new guy, who was great to see (Martyn). Also the week before that I played with these really cool guys from WA. I feel like footbag is doing quiet well in Australia. I have have my own agent now who is building me a website to do demos for parties and stuff. He's probably in the top 4 classical guitar players in the world (and he plays more than Bach
). So I'm excited about that
I've really been putting a lot of energy into the Secular Party and trying to organise things. We just had "World Youth Day" in Australia so we're trying to build momentum from that. I loved this letter in the paper the other day. It said something along the lines of "WYD was a completely failure; It failed to represent the world - it was just for Catholics. It failed to represent the youth, what's with all those old men in robes, and it failed to be a day - it went for 5 days."
Yeah whatever, I'm hostile towards religion ok. Just like I am towards all public displays of irrationality.
Yeah so that's what's going on in my life at the moment. My housemates are awesome and I've written this whole while drunk, followed by some madman events. That's probably why I'm not really attacking anybody or being really cynical
Go footbag.
Edit; Also when you read this please come on to footbag chat
. It's 5am in Australia and that means nobody is talking to me...

Hmm. There are worse things you can do than post on internet forums while drunk. Lesson learnt I hope.
It is 2:40 am and I'm procrastinating writing an essay that is due in in 7 hours and 20 minutes. Have barely started
Anyway I just wanted to share this link, because it's probably one of the funniest things ever (also sad).
