Has this ever been done anywhere in the world?

Like a points based system, where there you gain points and then there is an eventual winner after a number of rounds in the league who has the most points.

Kinda like Gymnastics/Snowsports have the world cup which is a number of different events.

Just wondering, I'm interested in starting a league and was wanting to see if anyone had tried before/had any advice on it.

they do this in net, where it's a bit easier to keep track of, with obvious wins and losses. i'm not sure where but i know i have seen rankings for net that spanned the entire year and listed various tournaments.
