I only watched them once so far with my first cup of coffee, but my 1st thoughts.....

Vasek- Nice---the routine is SOLID. I cant wait to see your whirrs frozen
by Jeremy O' Wheel and argued about.....
Milan- awesome , way to go after 1st. Nice trick selection
Marcin- Awesome style and intense shred. ( nice music selection )
Jorden- That was great. Awesome skills, awesome
presentation with a great costume, and awesome choreography.
I instantly called my wife Michelle to come see your routine.
Thanks for doing what you do. I feel like there needs to be a whole separate category for what your show presents.
Damian- I always enjoy watching your play. You da man! Good Routine. 8)

Wow, I'm glad I watched those.

Jorden, your routine is flat out amazing! It totally transcends footbag. I'm in awe of the creativity and choreography; definitely brings to mind images of Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly. I think that it would be mind-blowing to feature this type of performance in a stage production.

I wouldn't have counted them as drops. Generally judges don't count hand catches as drops if they are deemed as intentional. A good example would be after a juggle. That's not to say hand catches detract from a routine. If possible, its always better to catch the bag with anything but your arms. Again the exemption would be after a juggle, where as its totally understandable.

wow Jorden!!

that is really the spirit of routines, great showmanship!!

I need to say that the song is great, that awesome black and white video of those 8 guys playing harmonica to it is one of the best things I've seen on the internet, and your routine lived up to the quality of that video. AWESOME!!

Jorden, that was a pure win. Over 9000!

It was also nice to see Vasek's final build routine and not the pre-release beta that he showed @ Worlds :]

Ners told me judges had great problem with Jorden's routine becuase it was something completely new, I doubt they counted his hand catches as a drops, since all of them were planned by Jorden and were a part of whole routine.

Joden's routine is a small step for Jorden and big jump for footbag ;)

I love Vasek's Marcin's and Jorden's routines the most, rest is still awesome though.

Well, judges certainly did not have problem judging Jorden`s routine, it might have taken me half a minute more to think about the marks, but that was it.

I agree it was a great wonderful performance, but I think it was not the right choice for a footbag competition since it did not involve that many moves and the difficulty was quite low...

On my sheet it was close between Jorden and Marcin because Marcin had a short routine, but I still put him 3rd because the amount of moves and the difficulty was just so much higher than Jorden`s and even though Jorden was artisticaly better, it was not good enough overall to beat Marcin.

ty for the judging thoughts. it helps a lot when thinking about planning a routine to hear the decision making differences between top level competitors.

i asked about the drops b/c i had heard some routines had been penalized in the past ( lon's black & white routine? ) for hand catches, & was looking for the 4th place justification.

the lack of difficulty is understandable grounds for 4th, considering how solid the top 3 were as well.

Great routines. I had to watch them without sound so I won't compare them too much.

I would say this though - footbag routines are judged on two equally weighted criteria - technical and artistic merit. However "artistic" merit is commonly misunderstood and badly named. Judging artistic merit is not the same as looking at a painting or an opera and judging the artistic worth of the performance. Judging artistic merit in footbag routines really is about judging how the competitor uses their footbag skills in conjunction with the music and as a part of the performance. Although things like costumes and non-footbag crowd interaction play a part, it's very small - the majority of an artistic merit score is the artistic merit as it relates to footbag. It's a footbag competition, not a performing arts competition. Both scores relate to footbag ability.

Regarding the comments about hand catches. There is no official drop count in routines and no rule that hand catches count as drops. That's a shred 30 rule. Players can hand catch the bag as much as they like, however the number of hand catches or drops should obviously be taken in to account by the judges and it's up to them to decide whether they lessen the technical and artistic scores or not.

Jorden's routine is fantastic, but on the criteria being judged in a routine, I wouldn't have scored it above the top two. Without sound it's hard to make too clear judgements, but I did think his routine was probably technically more difficult than 3rd place. It has nothing to do with his routine being "new" or "different," just that it was not as technically challenging. I can't really compare artistic scores without sound.

Definitely don't think Jorden did that to win, he did it to show us an awesome routine.

That's exactly what a lay audience would want to see and he really is the first one to put all the pieces together. Just the idea of not wearing shorts makes it seem 30 times more professional. And the dark clothes and the big, bright bag. And the move selection, song, pace. Wonderful. :D

Well done Jorden - very entertaining routine. Flowed very well, and stood alone as a single routine, rather than individually ticking the judging category boxes in a fragmented routine.

Great stuff.

Thank you Jorden for providing these videos. All of the routines were great. I especially like what you are doing with footbag and how creative your routine was.

Is it me or are the video aspect ratios off? It looks as though the videos should be widescreen format but on youtube they are square or (4:3) - black bars on the sides. Just an observation - something that could be easily corrected.
