i am both stoked and saddened by this. why wouldn't they consult with real footbag players and get real moves in the damn thing? i'll still buy it though...

My reaction was similar. Why didn't they consult real footbag players? Probably because they didn't know we exist.

The guy obviously has some game design skills and creativity. It was just misapplied out of ignorance... comically misapplied. I emailed him and hopefully maybe a 2nd gen game will be made some day that actually has real freestyle elements.

Well if we could combine the graphics of this with the gameplay of Shred Session, it would be freakin awesome!

Seriously.

Actually I picked up the game last night. Played it for 2+ hours, lots of fun despite having no shred element to it.

I don't play video games at all, aside from a fishing game for the wii, but I've been waiting most of my life for a freestyle footbag video game. I always thought it would be awesome if they made one for the wii, and made some sort of strap for the wiimote that fit onto your feet so it would be realistic. If you're reading this and you're a video game creator... PLEASE take my idea.

Another footbag game that they made a long while ago is this mini game in California Games:

Definitely a pretty decent try at a footbag game, but no shred.

Another hacky sack game that still has no shred is (much more... hmm... stupid):

They already made an attachment for your feet, they called it the "Rod Laver Tennis Shoe". Its Uber realistic, whenever you put them on you feel like your really playing footbag.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. How could I have forgotten!? I just recalled buying some of those fancy foot attachments a while ago. Very intricate wiring system allows for super realistic gameplay... I think they called them "shoe laces"... Welcome to the future...

I've been working on a footbag video game for a loooong time now, it's a pretty complex endeavor if you really want to make a comprehensive game....especially for an amateur like myself....

The idea was to develop it in the XNA framework, which seems like a pretty good way to get it onto XBox Live as an indie title....with the PS3/ Xbox 360 controllers, I was thinking that you've got one joystick for each leg, and corresponding trigger/bumpers on each side for toe and clipper. The way I have it animated now, you would have an option for inside stalls and dragons stalls as alternatives for toe and clipper respectively.

So far I've animated many single dex uptime and downtime components that don't involve turning the body at all....and no swirling dexes
so...stepping, blazing, nuclear, fairy, pixie, atomic, quantum (even quasi), butterfly, whirl, drifter, pickup, legover, mirage, illusion, and grifter
are all (somewhat poorly) animated.

Still to come...ducking/diving, spinning/double spinning, osis, symposium, swirls and flyers. And then all of the combinations of that stuff...so LOTS more to do, just as far as animation. After that, there's the process of turning it into an actual GAME, with scoring and objectives and stuff. I've given all of this a lot of thought, but the sheer volume of work is pretty intimidating at this point.

I'm pretty much burned out on the whole thing, but I still put an occasional hour into the animation...at this rate it should be done in about 4 years :(

So if anyone knows C# and/or Maya and wants to help out, I've got a pretty good start on a very cool footbag video game :)

You're my hero. I wish I could help you with it, but I'm a techno-tard when it comes to that stuff. I'll wait patiently for 4 years.

C++ and Maya are two things that I intend to pick up in the very near future. Let's talk then. Btw, I like the progress with the Shredita!

Best (from Sao Paulo),

Ian
