I often miss my first clipper or toe stall, in a circle, this can be frustrating, as I won't get to shred at all sometimes for 3 rotations because I missed my opening stall, or one immediately after that. In order to have ANY FUN AT ALL, I need to self serve at least once. At the same time, I recognize that people don't like this, so I say I'm sorry, and I NEVER hold the bag for longer than 20 or 30 seconds if I have to self serve once or twice in the beginning.
If I just can't hit what I wanted to hit twice in a row, even if it was only 10 seconds, I pass the bag.
Sorry, but I just suck. :P

I really don't like circles.
They aren't as fun as a one-on-one session.
Three people is as big as I ever want to get in a circle. I get too cold and don't have fun.
Also, I hate needless rules and I love self-serving.
At world's I was blown away by this example:
You get the bag passed to you and you drop the toe stall. In many circles you HAD to pass it to the next person at which point they HAD to pass it back to you.
What the fuck is the point of this needless formality? It was a complete (and absolutley enfuryating) waste of time. People took/take circles way too seriously and seem to forget that they are playing this game because it is fun.
I remember one time I was in that situation and I didn't pass to the next dude and just dropped it to my toe at which point I was corrected (by a modified member who will remain nameless) and told not to self-serve. So I tossed it to my hand, passed it to him AND HE FUCKING PASSED IT BACK.
ENRAAAAGING!

^^^^ that thing where you HAVE to pass it back is called a giving a rebate... I never understood the whole rebate process. It seems like you should be penalized for messing up right away not rewarded.
Having fun is just a chemical reaction in your brain from whats going on its not a cardinal rule...
Not saying sorry is a old folklore kind of rule that use to be popular back in tha day..

At the pier the pier rats mess up our concentration and I cant pay attention to what im doing. I cant get a deceint flow going when there is too much bullshit going on. When there is a lack of attention to the game I get sidetracked and cant hit as well..C-Fan wrote: Paying attention or not is something that you choose to do or not do....
Even a slant in the ground diverts my attention. Slants are way more annoying than self serving.... Paying attention rules, especially when your like me and have A.D.D.!!!

Lol dont be such a circle nazi!
Ofcourse u can say sorry if you do a crap serve or u kick the bag away or something, its just common courtesy and shows ppl that dont play that we arent rude arrogant people.
Always Pay atention- this is generally a good rule, i agree there.
Always get a full hack - ok mabey if your playing hackey for some fun, but this is footbag man.
No Self Serving / No "Rebates" - Bollocks. Ok sometimes a no self serve rule is apropriate like in a demo or at a jam, but I think its better to have a 2 or 3 drop rule so u get a few chances, especially if some players are new. Just try to keep the bag time equal generally. Rebates are a great mechanism, if someone almost hits a big move and u rebate them and they hit it then thats really cool
No serving in a rotational direction - Its eaisiest to make sure everyone gets a go if you serve rotationaly. Seems the best system to me.
No tilting/guilting for your level of play *No bag hogging - Ok its not so cool to do a 100 contact tiltless string when your Vasek, but I dont think you should force everyone to hit only moves above a certain level, what if I enjoy legovers? Just have fun.
No really short shorts (unless your a girl) - That rule needs to be reversed, ONLY really short shorts, especially if your a girl. Noone plays in board shorts, its just stupid.
Wear A shirt for video - I will admit that alot of non-footbaggers that see my footbag vids ask why noone wears shirts and are alarmed, but thats because its too cold here not to wear a shirt ever and its just not considered normal. Surly everyones been to the beach or the pool befour, its not a big deal to see a guy with his top off.
No Internet Beef at tournaments - i dont even know what that means lol

Always have fun definitely
having fun also requires paying attention and not saying sorry.
If you dont catch someones sweet string, i dont think thats very fun.
so out of the choices i voted pay attention

Ok. I have some shizza to dispense to you people that want to listen.
I am not a formal player. I was a circle kicker for 8-10 years before freestyling so most circle ettiquite was learned from general shred. I got a huge surprise when I came to worlds 2004.
I couldn't get over how ANAL some people could be. I tried my best to fit into the majority of people and follow what other people did, hell, I even ASKED some people what the proper ettiquite would be on a general topic. (For example; when the shredder to your left kicks the bag and it lands in front of you, do you pick it up and pass it to the person that dropped it, do you pass it to the person that would normally get it after them, or do you stand like an idiot and wait for the person who dropped it to pick it up?)
Why do we need all these guidelines? I understand that formality is sometimes nescessary at tournaments and in circles of high level players that want that sort of security net, but im just a newbie (relatively) and this type of ANAL RETENTIVENESS could be driving away people that want to play footbag to have a good time and enjoy themselves.
I try my best to follow all the rules that I can. I try not to shake up the status quo, but when I do, I don't want to be brought down hard by people that structure the universe to fit their egos.
Always Pay Attention - I agree with this rule. You give shredders the same respect that you expect in return. If you have other shit to do, go do that shit and come back when your ready to pay attention and focus on the game.
Always Get a Full Hack - Maybe in circle kicking. Ultimately the objective is to keep the bag off the ground. If a circle goes dropless runs for one full revolution, that would be awesome, but objectives are not rules.
No Self Serving / No "Rebates" - Self serving is bad. We get the point. But there are times when it's okay, and there are times when it's not okay. Mr. Irish, you may not like self serving in your circles, and that I can understand (Seeing you shred with Vasek and other pros at worlds). But not everyone is at your level, and not everyone shreds in your circles. This shouldn't be a cardinal rule because every circle is different. At this point in my shred career, I don't see a problem with self serving. This past weekend I was shreding with Andrew W and Erik Chan. I dropped twice during Fairy Butterfly>Ducking Osis. I hit it third try and I got mad props for it from Andrew and Erik. That made my day. Thanks to self serving, my day was a little bit better (And the other shredders weren't put out by it either, so I was happy). Perhaps people that don't like self serving are impatient and need to stroke some ego? Or perhaps they are mentors, saying to us subliminally; "Work on longer runs, my child, that way you will feel that you have achieved more before dropping". I really don't know and I don't particularly feel like talking about this anymore. All I know is that I will not self serve when I feel confident in my skills and I join circles that require no self serving (Irish, Vasek, Moir, Ales, Vandall, Etc.).
Wear a shirt for Video - I will admit that video looks professional either way.
No Internet Beef at Tournaments - What about no tournament beef on the internet?
