sHoes made in western countries

Here's my predicament:

I've met a guy who's really into practicing footbag, he does practice but gets discouraged because his shoes really suck for footbag. He wants to buy lavers but he's very concious of the whole cheap labour deal in China. Lavers are made in China and he doesn't want to buy them because he doesn't want to support Addidas because of this.

So anyone know decent shred shoes made in like Canada/US/Uk or other non-third world countries?

well, no, tell him to go have a good long cry about it and when hes all out of tears buy lavers, or find some in the uk, i dont know any.

Yeah seriously, tell him to stop whining. Human society is a pile of shiat, bitching gets you nowhere. Shredding on the other hand...if someone gets snarky you can tear them up with your blades.

I think Mr. Hypersensitive needs to take a look at his priorities.

How badly does he really want to shred.

Tell him their tiny little overworked fingers make a Great product!

oh, and I guaranfuckingtee that even if his shoes aren't made in China you can be damn sure that something else he was wearing or owns was made there.

Unfortunately that's true. It's nearly impossible to find any shoes or clothes that aren't made in oppressive situations, let alone good footbag shoes (and that's equally the fault of immoral companies and fat stupid westerners who don't give a damn, but that's a different subject).

If he gets them off ebay, then there's a good chance he isn't directly supporting adidas. That's probably the best he can do until Flipsider or some other group gets large enough to begin manufacturing freestyle shoes in North America.

Tell him to buy any shoe with a flat bottom and be happy. Cut out the insides and the toes and hot glue some better fabric over top of the holes.

Hot glue the inside so it works.

Because THOSE NB are made in the USA, while the 520 are made in china. You can click the "Made In USA" link nbwebexpress.com under the "special" heading on the left to see other USA manufactured shoes.

so yeah, my priorities? while im liking footbag thus far and want to get better, it doesnt take precedence over my morals

ebay seems like a good choice though, especially if i can score some second hand ones

and, for the record, the only shit i wear that was made in sweatshops is the crap i buy at thrift stores, which is not supporting sweatshops at all

its very possible to be a caring consumer
and sometimes, when it doesnt seem possible, there are ways to minimize the negative impacts that our consumerist habits have on others

Yeah I think that's great Phil! I wish I could help you find some good shoes.

An idea I've had in the past is to get some running spikes and modify them so that they are shredable - you'd need some shoe glue or something. It might also be hard because I presume you haven't played a huge amount of footbag. The other thing to do - would be to post at the forums asking if anybody had an old pair of lavers in your size. Especially if you have a smaller size you may well be able to get a good newish pair which would otherwise be thrown out due to the incredible feet growth of people like Jim Jansen who seems to be a higher shoe size every month.

Also I'm moving this topic into the bags and equipment topic and you need to have your full name in your signature - this goes for everybody reading!

although i still need to call the company and find out where the shoes are made, what are your opinions on this shoe? i think it looks like it should be good

as for second hand, if anyone has a pair of size 11 lavers they wanna sell/donate instead of throw away, let me know!

They look good. The only issue could be the weight. My lavers weigh about 280g each. Lighter shoes are definitly better in my opinion. I also prefer mesh to canvas because it allows your feet to breath better and it's more flexible but if you're just starting out I don't think either of those are issues.

yea and because you not buying the shoes is making a HUGE difference, look, thats how it works over there, they do it day in and day out, they have a sense of pride in the work they do, much more so than in americans, they dont take things for granite, and they still make it, not with much, but they make it. We're America, with a capital A, we are the main focus here, the big guy, and when we need things we speak up, and people do it. Im willing to bet that those workers who are making the shoes didnt flock to the job offer but they know that they can make enough money at that place of work to take care of their most basic needs and maybe some more if their lucky. It's just another way of life, maybe its not as flashy as an American's, but that the way they do it.

you could try looking on ebay for a really old pair of lavers .. i heard that those used to be made in europe, in like france and finland. or something along those lines. plus the older models have a thicker (sole) so ive heard and las longer but that theyre also heavier (so ive heard) then chinas
