Also, how are you able to remember your runs so well? Normally when a good run ends, I`m like...I hit....something. That`s pretty cool you can remember even the BOPs in your run.
I can do this because everything i ever hit is on camera. I can't convince myself to play without the camera!!

I like the bold use too because if people just want to know what i hit in that particular day, all they have to look for is bold. If they want to read everything, then, so be it.

8-22-04

A pretty good session today.

I hit a pretty cool bit to start a string off:

Magellen > symp mirage > smear > Backside smear > dimwalk > other

That felt really awesome and i think it looks kinda beastly :)

I had an idea for a new combo, didn't take me but about 5 attempts to hit:

Dlo - Symp pixie (rpt). My flip dlo happened really easily, which is amazing because a month ago, i could barely hit it. That is a fun combo though.

O yes, and the so hard PS Whirl...well, i started hitting ps whirls a long time ago, but never put it to use. Lately i've been using them in combos and such, but i could never seal opposite side ps whirls in the same run...So i finally hit:

PS Whirl Bsos :)

Butterfly > PS Whirl > Pdx Mirage > Butterfly > Infinity (was supposed to ps whirl after this, but i was off balance) > pdx mirage > SS Butterfly (again, was supposed to ps whirl, but was off balance) > pdx mirage > Butterfly > Infinity > PS Whirl (low, but i got it).

After i got ps whirl bsos off my back, i went on to some moves that have annoyed me forever.

I had already hit blacula on strong side. So today, i hit it flip side.

Blacula both sides

I had never hit dolomite on either side, but was always footing it. Finally, after many footed attempts, i nail it, first on strong side, then flip.

Dolomite both sides

THEN! My tripless record has been 3 for about a couple months. I had already hit paradon > pdx mirage (rpt) before and had footed the last trick of the combo i hit tonight about a month ago. Tonight though:

Paradon > PS Mirage (rpt)

AWESOME! 4 tripless :)

Alright, ttyl

First off...i was intent on hitting whirlwind...

No luck, its just too difficult still. I'm afraid i'll severely twist something. So i tried for some easier tricks:

Spinning Reverse Whirl and Spinning Symposium Reverse Whirl. I footed flip spinning reverse whirl a couple times, but i didn't think the trick mattered that much to me to hit it both sides.

I had never hit flip pixie symposium reverse whirl. Its a cheap 5 add, but its a fun 5 add. So i decided, why not try flipside and turn it into bsos? Well thats exactly what i did. Took me about 10 attempts or so, but i nailed pixie symposium reverse whirl bsos. Felt nice.

Since i hit 4 tripless last night, i was contemplating new ways to up the tripless record. I came up with something like this:

Atom Smasher > Backside Smear > paradon > Ps Mirage > Paradon > PS whirl > Superfly > Mullet > Mobius...the italicized tricks are ones that i would most likely never get, but it was fun to think about it.

I did hit, however, the bolded tricks. That was great! I bailed to Paradox mirage after the paradon, but i went on to hit another 9 guiltless. At the end of the string, for some reason, i bailed to far legver. I don't know why. But who cares, my record for tripless is now 5!!!

That is all. SWEET!

September 5th, 2004

Radical day today.

First off, i haven't played in 3 days. I haven't felt good or anything, i've been tired, sick, or a combo of the two. But today, i felt pretty good. I had two sessions, each lasting about an hour a piece.

The first part of my session was to get myself warmed up, back in the groove if you will. Somehow, i almost hit ripstein, missing the stall by about, i don't know, an inch? Then i began to think of the trick too much and i couldn't come closer again.

I gave whirlwind a...heh, whirl, but i had no luck, was very close. Its a tough move, but i figure once i get a spin out of the way, all i'm doing is a symp whirl.

I then did a trick i thought was a stepping inspinning osis, but i still must be kind of sick since all that was was a crispy torque...LOL, but it still felt good.

I had some other string with a smear > pixie paradon - other - dlo - smog (drop) It felt cool, i love throwing a pixie paradon midrun. It feels so sweet!

Then i thought about dimwalk > ducking pdx mirage (rpt), but i couldn't manage. But i did hit dimwalk > ducking pdx mirage (both sides). That felt good, and i should be able to rpt that soon.

I had never hit a 3 dex > 3 dex, but i managed with a pixie barrage > pixie paradon. Radical! I wanted to hit ps whirl afterwards, but o well, i couldn't seal the pixie paradon well enough.

SESSION 2:

I threw in a datw after pdx mirage midrun. It felt really cool.

I upped my pixie ss mirage record to 3.

I had a 16 guiltless string. Yay, but its not all that hard anymore or exciting.

I also decided to hit some cheapo five add, pixie ss symp rev whirl both sides. It was ok, it feels kind of cool when you do a pixie set and immediatly plant that foot. It feels like you're flying sorta.

Then, while just fooling around, i hit dlo bsos with paradon bsos in the same run. Ok, so i semi lied, because i sorta dropped the last paradon. But it was close enough.

AND THEN! I hit my first ever 7 add and 4 dex :)

PIXIE MOFLY! I was so happy! Its a pretty big move in my opinion. It doesn't feel all that hard either. My only complaints are that my last dex was thin, and i didn't feel as in control as i'd have liked. But other than that, i feel pretty good!

My shred has deteriorated massivly lately. I feel off balance, my runs barely ever exceed about 6 guiltless, i am having to force myself more and more outside. I also get super tired quickly and i don't understand why.

O WELL. Tomorrow is another day. My lavers are almost through the sole, which is another reason why my game is going down.

Through the sole? Meaning your wearing out your Lavers? That's crazy! Mine are still in awesome shape :?

If you really feel like you don't have any energy, try drinking more water during the day. I know I've been meaning to lately (tomorrow I'll start bringing a bottle of water to school (600 ml) and hope to have it drunk by lunch, then again by the end of school). Also, how are your sleeping habits? Are you over sleeping or under sleeping? Both can affect your energy levels during the day.

If you feel stressed out about footbag, take a leave for a few days. Don't even think about footbag, just go out and do what you like to do. Work on your car, spend time with the folks, get to know your neighbors etc etc. Maybe one of the reasons why you dont' feel like shredding is because the fact that you aren't doing so well is getting you down.

In any event man, take care and no worries :D

Thanks Byrin, i agree with most of what you said. Actually, all of it, with the exception of slight modifications to what you said (confused you yet?? Lol)

Actually, yeah, i dont drink a ton of water per day. Not enough that is. Good idea though

A reason i might feel so stressed about footbag is that i'm not doing well. Thats definatly been in my mind.

I've been out of school for about 3 and a half weeks now with barely anything social to do (with the exception of my 4 days at my brother in laws). Still though, its depressing. I do have a friend moving up here though soon :)

So yeah, basically i think (and this is what i did today) is that i have to do some drilling. Just some good old drilling which i have not done in forever. Just trying consecutive tricks both sides (whirl > whirl, whirl > paradox whirl, dlo > dlo, swirls both sides).

Swirls are getting easier, even on my flipside. Set, then swirl, don't setswirl...lol

Ok, ttyl

I didn't play for a couple days because of a girl....

hehehe....

Today though, I really didn't have a stellar session. I was somewhat out of it and my legs didn't do what they were supposed to. But i had some attempts at:

Tod
Phasing Gyro mirage
Whirlwind
Sunilwalker

All of them were footed...

O well, tomorrow I start school. I will have very little time to shred too :( School is cool though mostly :)

So i'll post again later with all of my cool shredding stuff. Wish me luck.

Well thanks Seath :)

9-28-04:

I was doing strings for a while but then decided to just go all out and hit some big moves:

Pixie ducking paradon (6 adds of triple dexednessage)
Pixie ducking whirl (ok, but it could have been a deeper whirl)
Ripstein was just about an inch away from beautiful completion
Symposium whirling swirl was slightly the i'm afraid, but it could have been the angle.

As for strings:

Smear > Whirl > Swirl > Whirl > funky mirage
Smear > Whirl > Swirl > reverse Swirling Pickup (that was a cool lookin one)

More strings are going to come. The strings are getting longer if i don't think about them and they are getting technically more difficult. Runs are becoming more genuine, which is nice because i hate throwing in the bop's too much...

Alrighty, i didn't play the 29th, but i'll maybe play the 30th. If not, then late the 1st of october, if not that, the 2nd. One of those days i will play, but it all depends what i'm doing with my friend Stephanie :):):) (shut up you sickos, not like that)

9-30-04:

The eve of October 1st

I had a rare school shred session today. I feel so weird playing there by myself though because people either: Ignore you, stare at you (in a good way), stare at you (in a bad way), or say "hey dude, that's pretty cool"!

Most of them ignore me and i feel all weird doing funky motions that no one is used to seeing...And i'm not good enough to make myself look effortlessly cool yet either..

I did almost bust a mobius several times though...its almost easy now. I've only hit mobius twice, so it was a treat when the gyro set was perfect almost everytime...

I had a few good strings, but nothing too fancy. I didn't feel like getting overly sweaty so i hadn't been trying as hard. Plus, i had my longer shorts on which made paradons a real chore (they normally are simple).

Swirls are getting amazingly easy...its so cool to bust a swirl midrun.

O yeah, and "sorcery" video from monsterhack.com is just awesome :) I love seeing huge tricks that are attempted, not to mention the oodles of crazy shred.

Ok, well, sometime i will have a "REAL" session that'll last more than an hour.

I don't play much anymore which is a shame. But surprisingly, I am better than I have ever been.

I'm more relaxed, all the tricks come easier to me. When i practiced daily, I didn't see barely any improvement. Now, playing every 2-4 days, I do better!

Stuff that i couldn't hit before with ease like :

Dimwalk > Blur (rpt)

Ok, so my flip pixies are so relaxed and almost easy now! Not the mention my stepping is like, no problem either, which is really freaky considering i had no stepping only about a month and a half ago.

Also, i had dimwalk > sidewalk Bsos. Didn't take me too long and it was not hard at all.

My strongside barraging was also completely awesome! I gave arch nemesis a try but boy, is that a toughie. My set was probably high enough, but its hard to whip your leg around twice in like .4 seconds...LOL. I got a sunilwalker with a funky half the'd extra dex while stomping on the bag with my clipper foot. O well, I'm not vasek yet.

Anyways, I'll ttyl. Things are so good right now (in my life, not just footbag) that i'm in an endless state of goodmoodiness.

10-25-04

Its been a long time since i've posted in my blog.

Things have been really busy lately, but I have managed to maintain my level of skill in footbag. Not only do I think that I've been able to maintain the level, I feel that I've been able to increase my skill level, despite about 1 or 2 hours per week, once a week.

I had a 26 guiltless run the other day, with bsos atom smashers, back to back ripwalks, a paradon, a dimwalk, and the rest were 3 adders. Not too bad, especially since that run was just supposed to be atom smasher bsos and nothing more. I was especially surprised when i linked the 2 ripwalks because I have a hard enough time doing those on their own, let alone in a string.

I hit a superfly midrun again for the first try in a long time. Its so weird, the only times i've hit superfly is midrun, never on its own. The run went like:

Magellen > symp mirage > smear > dimwalk > Superfly. Solid superfly, clean as ever, stylie as ever. I'm serious, sometimes i worry about my brain and my legs. They never seem to work together at times, but sometimes, everything just clicks. Weird.

On another note about my fairly large guiltless string, that was one more than my previous large guiltless string of 25. Also, my previous guiltless string only had one 4 add, and was a messy thingy for sure. My newest string was pretty fairly controlled. It just sucks that I dropped a paradox mirage :x

Some other tricks that I've been giving a try, mainly for fun are:

Pixie mofly...been trying to get that cleaner, ever since somolimos challenged me to that. I've footed it several times, much cleaner than the very first one I landed, but I haven't been able to get that bag back up. Its such a hard trick.

I also thought of a new four dex, and I'm sure someone has hit it before, but I told Byrin Wylie about it and he said it was a rewind trick:

Phasing SS Reverse Swirling Pickup.

I guess it could be called several things: Fairy Swirling SS Reverse Swirling Pickup, Fairy Zigzagging pickup...I don't know, it doesn't seem that hard, though i find it hard to clean the pickup. A lot of times with my phasing set, the fairy leg dexes the bag, but barely, so my pickup doesn't look very visible. Though i have come close to footing this trick, I can't help thinking my pickup sucked...

I have given fury a few good attempts too. My barrage set is somewhat suffering seeing as its not getting the attention it needs to get better. But anyhow, I've been able to get the barrage into the paradox knee hit...lol. Fury is so cool, i want to hit it soooo bad.

Some of the challenges people have given me in the challenges forum are just too hard. I have never hit an alpine pixie legover, but i was requiested to hit them back to back. I'm sure yes, I could hit them, but that would take a lot and a lot of drilling. I have received no such challenges to where they seemed even remotely doable. Jeremy's challenges seemed ok, but my drifters suck (which may be that I should drill them some). I gave the drifter > diving clipper (rpt) a try, but all i managed was the drifter > crappy setting diving nothing...Butterfly > pdx mirage (rpt) x40, for some reason, I just can't seem to do basic things as much as I need to. Sure, doing those 40 times in a row is good and all, and shows that you have monster control over those two tricks on both sides, but I also feel that I do not need to be able to do them 40 times in a row...I always seem to drop on some crappy number like 12 or something. GRR

Flip alpine pixie paradon was interesting. I'm sure if i had a better flip pixie ducking, then i may be able to hit it. Combined with my not so good paradon on that side, that trick seems just really far out there at the moment.

Anyhows, disregarding the complaints on my hard challenges (though i am satisfied that people thought i was that good), some of the good stuff that has happened, well, is good.

Stepping sets have improved so much. Sure, i can still only do two ripwalks, but 3 months ago, i could not step at all. Now I can pretty much bust a step out of anything i really want to, though i have troubles doing a stepping > stepping...Which is why i was amazed at ripwalk > ripwalk midrun. So I'm glad my stepping is coming along. Also, I noticed that if you just stay relaxed, stepping is a whole lot easier than if you are really tense.

Well, I have hit a bunch of other cool runs, most of which you can view in the new runs section, but if you are too lazy to read that, then, here's what i posted just yesterday:
Ok, first of all, props to all, especially jorden for his beast

Now, I actually have stuff to post:

Infinity > Pdx Mirage > Dod (Rpt)
Dimwalk > Pdx Mirage > Dimwalk > Pdx Mirage > Paradon > Pdx Mirage > Paradon > Pdx Mirage > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Smear > Butterfly > Infinity > Infinity > Infinity (drop) (Bailed to osis instead of pdx mirage the last time i got that close, so thats why i am posting this new)
Muted Pixie Same Clipper > Pdx Mirage (rpt) > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Smear > Paradon > Osis (drop)
Smear > Pheonix
Ducking Butterfly Bsos
Muted Pixie Same Clipper Bsos
Muted Pixie Legover Bsos
PS Mirage Bsos (Surprised i hadn't done that yet)

AND...This came out of nowhere. It was just supposed to be atom smasher bsos, but it turned into 26 guiltless:

Atom Smasher > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Smear > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Atom Smasher > Butterfly > Osis > Pdx Mirage > Butterfly > Ripwalk > Ripwalk > Osis > Pdx Mirage > Butterfly > Infinity > Pdx Mirage > Smear > Symposium Mirage > Dimwalk > Osis > Pdx Mirage > Paradon > Osis > Pdx Mirage (drop)

I was surprised that i had used 6 four adds in that run, also i have a hard time doing two ripwalks in a row...SO yeah, i was happy.

EDIT: O yeah, can't forget:

Magellen > Symposium Mirage > Smear > Dimwalk > Superfly :):)

So yeah anyways, that day was a good one, especially since i hadn't played since tuesday (and that was sunday), and the time before last tuesday was the tuesday after that one...So i've played like twice in the last two weeks, and I'm still managing to do alright.

Anyways, I'm going to talk to you later because I've written enough in this blog for now.

Nice work with all the new big moves and stuff you're hitting!! Impressive! :D

I think if you want to be able to hit consistant long runs - being able to hit at least 30 - 40 contacts of the butterfly>pdx mirage drill is a must! Perhaps if you were a clipper based player it would be better to do butterfly>osis>osis repeat or something like that - but personally I think it's good to be able to use toes and clippers! It is a lot harder to get consistantly good at something than it is to hit a big trick!!

Good Luck and keep busting hard!! :D

My bag is refilled and it is soooo much easier to play with. I can't tell you how many times i was dropping a right side butterfly because of no sand. I kept dropping pdx mirages and i kept snagging them on my leg because my set from clipper wasn't normal since the bag was so damn light and irregular in shape...

SOOO...sick 3 competition 2 is hopefully going to be a lottttt better!!!

I'm ready! I'm thinking 5 > 5 > 5...We'll see.

November 16, 2004

Hey guess what peoples? I am actually going to post something in my blog...something that has some significance...something that isn't just "I'm going to play today" or "The weather sucks here"...

I ACTUALLY played for quite a long time today, well...at least by my standards I did. I played for a couple hours today, but I didn't really hit anything impressive.

My first session happened around 4:30 PM and I was just trying hard stuff and strings. I was working on my sick 3 which i just could not get a good enough set for the third trick. If i get it though, it'll be awesome, I assure you.

Since I have not played a whole lot lately and since I just refilled my bag so its playable, my strings have taken a huge nose dive. I am up to about 8 guiltless if i'm lucky at the moment. So i figured I should take a step back and work on some things individually. Single moves I figured would help me get my legs working in their proper order and get my strength back up. You know you've neglected footbag for a while if your easiest tricks are now weak as all hell...Paradon...cough cough. I don't know what happened here, but its much harder than it used to be...until tonight.

So...

A long long time ago
In a galaxy far far away...
I found a website called footbag.org
I opened a word document
I copied individually all the tricks from their freestyle list onto the document
I saved it
I printed it
I put it in a black binder

I went through most of the tricks that were there, able to hit most of the common 3 adds and lower, and a lot of the 4 adds. I was too tired to continue after an hour of straight single tricking though. So I stopped at paradox whirl both sides and called it a night. I am now writing all this stuff because I need to calm down and I'm quite tired now.

I started with a few one adds...

Toe, Inside, Outside Delays...both sides. Yay...nothing too big here.

Two adds:

*Atw in and Out (bs)
*Bubba (bs)
*Clipper (bs)
*Dragon
*Fairy (bs)
*Far legover (bs)
*Far pickup (bs)
*Flying Clipper (bs)
*Guay (bs)
*Hop Over (bs)
*Illusion (bs)
*Legover (bs)
*Mirage (bs)
*Pickup (bs)
*Pixie (bs)
*Reverse Guay (bs)
*Walk Over (bs)

Okay, well that was a good sign. I have played long enough that this time off has not hurt my basic two add tricks. Discounting the oddball drop on the first try for two adds, I hit most of the two adds first try both sides. The reason reverse guay is bold is because its quite an interesting and somewhat difficult trick. I think it looks cool though.

For 3 adds:
*Atom Smasher (bs)
*Barrage (toe) (bs)
*Bubbabeater gave me a hard time. I did not hit this, but footed it several times. I have hit it before.
*Butterfly (bs) NEW ONE FOR ME! NOT!!!
*Crossbody rake (Bs)
*Diving Clipper
*Diving Mirage New trick
*Double atw in/out
*Double Legover (bs) Funny thing is is that ever since my long break, flipside dlo's are really easy now...hehe
*Drifter (toe) (bs)
*Ducking Clipper (bs)
*Eclipse always is a fun one
*Eggbeater (bs)
*Fairy Clipper/Legover/pickup/ss illusion/ss legover/ss mirage
*Fear
*Flail (bs) They don't hurt like they used to
*Fudge
*Inspinning Mirage...gahH!!!! I was so close to this trick. It kept hitting me on the arghh! I mean...arm!
*Legeater (stepping sets definatly help) Also, a new trick
*Magellen (bs)
*Merkon (flipside spinning sucks)
*Nuclear SS Legover. I gave it a try and I had a really good nuke set, but that legover felt too weird after the untrained nuke set.
*Osis (bs)
*Paradox Illusion (bs)
*Paradox Mirage (bs)
*Paste (bs)
*Pixie legover/clipper/ss clipper/ss mirage/ss pickup/ss illusion (bs) My flipside pixies are coming back, after I had complained about them sucking again...
*Quantum Pickup...anyone else find this insanely difficult for 2 dexes? I do, and I never sealed it.
*Red Ribbon (zulu clipper)...this is a lot of fun if you never plant your set leg until the very end...I hit it for the first time first try! Almost hit it the other side. Also a new trick
*Reverse hopover
*Reverse Swirl (boy, I landed the smoothest one I have ever attempted)
*Reverse Whirl (bs)
*Schmoe (bs) A new one for me. Not that hard.
*Slapping Mirage (bs)
*Smear...this is one of my most commonly used tricks. I had better be able to seal it with ease still...
*Smudge (bs) Flip smudge is new.
*Spinning Clipper (bs) I hate flip spinning. My strong spinning is cake though.
*Stepping Clipper (bs) Flipside Stepping clipper is new
*Stepping Mirage (bs)
*Symposium Mirage (bs)
*Symposium Pixie (bs)
*Swirl ...I can hit it flipside, but i guess I forgot to do it.
*Tap (bs) (ah, my first ever atomic move, and boy was it ugly) I never thought I'd hit stampede after I hit Tap.
*Terrage (Could almost be classified as a very smooth Pixie ss clipper, but I think it looks more terragish)
*Toe Blur
*Whirl (bs) This is an easier trick from toe for me.

So that wasn't too bad. I didn't really feel like attempting every single 3 add that footbag.org had, so I chose the ones that were used more commonly.

4 adds was were it started getting more difficult. I had to use my brain more and my muscle memory had to kick in.

*Atomic Drifter (SOOOO close to hitting that that...well, you get what I mean. High atomic set, quick tight drifter, foot, ground, scream)
*Atomic Whirl (Reactor) YAY! I finally hit this, though I don't know if it was THE...it felt okay though, just a really late whirl.
*Backside Smear (cake...its an easy 4 add)
*Barfly...these aren't hard anymore like I thought they used to be. Its all in the set and how much you twist into the bag.
*Blender...evil trick still. I hit it flip, but once. Strong blender isn't too bad, though it snags my leg a lot.
*Blur (bs) This is another easy 4 add. It used to be hard since I had no stepping set. After I thought of a step as an actual set and not a whole trick, I could step. Funny...
*Butterfly Swirl
*Dimwalk (Bs)
*Diving Butterfly (new trick for me)
*Double Over Down (bs) My double downs are coming back
*Down Double Down (bs)
*Ducking Butterfly (bs)
*Ducking Pdx Mirage (bs)
*Dyno (bs) both sides first try. Not a bad trick.
*Frontside Atom Smasher (took me a while to hit it, but I got it and it feels cool. New trick for me)
*Hopover Swirl (Such a fun trick. Not too good for shred though since it slows it down majorly)
*Legbeater (bs) First try. Not a hard trick anymore. Atomic sets are getting better and HIGHER!
*Little Apple...first try. A difficult trick to seal, and I'm not very good at gyro moves anyways
*Paradon (bs) Yay. Paradons are coming back. They aren't as difficult as they were the other day. Its nice, because paradon was almost becoming a bail for me.
*Paradox Double Legover (not too bad of a trick...high set is somewhat necessary and I'm not used to putting a leg that high normally)
*Paradox Drifter (Hey! This wasn't so bad this time!)
*PS Mirage (BS) (Cake)
*Paradox Whirl (bs) Still a weird trick for me...i don't know why i can't do them well...
*Pixie Whirl (set closer in, feels much more solid)
*Ripwalk (Bs)

From here I stopped.

O yeah, one more thing...

ALL ON VIDEO! Yeah, all of that was on video, and I'm going to look at every single trick to see how my style is going.

There was two reasons I stopped there: My tape had 1 minute left on it, and I was tired.

Also, I thought that I probably should have started backwards, starting with 6 adds and working my way down. So not only were the tricks getting technically harder, I was also getting more tired.

Though some of you may be saying "its not about single tricks, its about strings", you should understand that I was only doing this to get myself back into strings. My legs felt so weak trying strings I normally was able to hit before my break. I had to take a step down and work on the basics again.

My legs feel much stronger now though and I feel better about knowing I can still hit a lot of stuff, and that I can still hit new stuff!

So yes, that was a really productive session. I'll probably try some harder tricks on Thursday depending on what I'm doing. It sucks that the only time I get to play anymore is at night. It gets too dang dark too quick and I get out of school too late!

If you guys actually read all of that, I salute you! Thanks for reading my blog.

Good to read an entry in your blog Chris! That was probably the best thing for you to do after your extended absence by going back to where it hurts your strings the most - the tricks.

Anyways, keep at it and take care dude!
