Living in a country with a corrupt recycling services does not mean that all recycling is a fraud. Obviously the problem is that your country does not know how to recycle. I'd guess that your recycling is run by private companies. -

As you claim that 40% of material ends up in the same land fill - I'd put it to you that the problem is that you don't recycle and claim that you are - rather than it's a problem with the idea of recycling.

Weren't you just bitching about your govt subsidizing sweat shops for 100s of millions?

40% of the recyclables "separated from garbage" end up back with the same garbage.

That means that when the conscious ,treehugging activist carefully separates and cleans his bottles and cans, the garbage truck will dump it in the same hole as your rotten food.

I was only slamming U.S. recycling for being a WASTE OF RESOURCES.

I'm sure that in Australia, you have green-friendly ,hybrid solar\dung powered carts that pick up all your plastic bottles.

It varies from state to state in Australia - in many places the recycling center is at the tip/landfill - so the truck that picks up the rubbish picks up the recycling as well. In my state recycling is contracted out and some friends of mine have been in the recycling buisness for over a decade now and own a million dollar buisness in the industry.
