Ok,just wondering if anyone here uses thos little portable speakers for your discman to use while shredding. I can get a pair for under $20 here, and I thought them might be handy since they are smaller and portable. I don't feel like lugging a huge portable stero around and having to look for an outdoor plug in or use like 8 d's which cost a fortune. So if anyone uses them or has used them could you reply back about how they worked and such.

Ive also been looking for some like this but I cant find any that are more powerful than 1W rms for each speaker, and I fear they might not be loud enough to hear outside if they are this weak.

If anyone has some they use could you please tell us what to look for in the way of rms watts and size so that they can be heard outside?

We used them today!

I've used them on various occasions, you still need batteries for them if you want to get decent sound level out of them, but they definitely work. Unless you're looking for booming sound, then go for the 8-d guzzlers.

Can you please tell me what the brand is? What the rms wattage is on each speaker and how big they are? If you have a picture that would rock 2

Can you hear them over traffic (this is the main thing)

I use these.
Sorry couldn't find this in english, but I payed 20€ and I think they are o.k. Of course you don't have a fat sound for a party, but they are fine for shredding.
and never get speakers which don't need batteries, they suck.

I would not recommend them. I bought a pair where no batteries were required by accident and tried them, but for outside use they are really too quiet even at max volume. While sitting beside of the speakers they were o.k.(at max volume) but when I stood up and moved a bit away for shredding I could hardly hear anything.

DO NOT BUY THOSE.

They suck. You want something that is powered by batteries in the speakers . . . otherwise you will not be able to hear them at all if something is going on, say paint drying, dust fallings, someone breathing . . .

yes, but not the big ass trucks that went by once in a while.

We were about 1.5 meters away from the speakers while shredding, but we were in sort of a corner space so it helped with the sound.

I have a pair of Sony discman speakers. The sound is weak and you need batteries to really hear anything (I think you need them anyway and even if they are plugged into the wall...)
These are the speakers I used in older footage of me and Mark from that hallway with the red door from, like, 4 years ago (people kept asking about the clip with Dune's "Starchild" -- the music was from these speakers).
The model number is SRS-28. Each speakers needs 2 AA batteries. And it says, "Rated input power: 0.4W".
They were crappy but got the job done.

These speakers are, also, about 6-8 years old...
(I doubt you could hear much outside, nevermind over traffic...)

I just used the speakers I posted above in a radiation cleanup area with lots of heavy equipment moving around and I was jamming just fine. . . it's actually suprising how much sound they put out if you have a wall to bounce it off of. I got them at target.

Its pretty much exactly what Tsiangkun posted but they are seperate speakers, not joined and cost 50$ NZ.
Only thing im worried about is mabey the speaker size would effect sound level. Tsiangkun's speakers look like they might be a little bigger than mine, anyone think this would make a difference?

I had those before I got the ones I had now. I don't know what happened to mine, but I liked them better than the ones I have now because the speaker has a volume knob, and mine don't.

Those are sweet . . . even though the link took me to a sony handi cam. . . I assume you were looking at the portable speakers for $49

I have a regular portable CD player (not a discman) its kind of big and guzzles 6 D cell batteries in about 20min! however, my dad is an electrical engineer so he knows all about this stuff, so he built a little converter thing that allows me to connect a 12v rechargeable battery that i have a couple of, to the CD player. It allows 9 volts in and disperses the other 3 volts as heat out the back of the player. It has 2 PVC pipes with metal contacts on them that simulate batteries sitting in the battery compartment
its pretty simple but works really well. i took it to our recent jam in Aus and we were getting whole sessions out of it no problems. At least 4 hours running time before it starts to slow down. Really excellent
recharges overnight so you are ready to go again

I found a little portabel stero with cd player/radio/casette in my brothers closet. It fits in my backpack nicely and doesn't weight alot. Only thing takes 8 D's, cost me $4.25 for 8 of them. So we'll see how they work.

Has anyone tried mp3-players or something else while shredding in a place that you aren't allowed to make very much extra noise? 'Cause I've got a Creative MuVo TX 256mb -player (Can be called "Nomad" somewhere) and it'd be small and handy. Except it doesn't work, the PLAY-button is "malfunctioning" = it doesn't play music.

There was this carrying-thingy for wearing it in arm. I don't know how it'd work and I still recommend to use bigger CD-players during the session.

The main problems you will find is that if its in your pocket it is qutie distracting, if you strap it to you arm tho it might be ok, but you gotta wear a top to keep the cord from flying about, just put it down your top.
You will need some sport HEADPHONES not earphones, they fall out. Sport headphones will latch over the back of your ear and stay on quite well but they still bounce round and are quite annoying.

I use an mp3 player and have sport headphones but I dont use them to shred, its kinda antisocial, and I only play alone when im at home anyway. Best option I think is 2W combined rms speakers like the ones mentioned above.

The magic word is: duct tape. OK, I understood that they're annoying.
