Must-See Movies!

To revive this thread - I recently watched some topclass movies.

The new Coen Brothers Movie, "The Ladykillers", a remake of an old
movie/play/book (?), with a brilliant Tom Hanks. He'd gone up my
ranks since The Terminal, and this performance is no exception.

Also - Immortel (ad vitam).

I just watched "Shaun of the Dead". It's extremely funny. Zombies, Pubs, and wonderfully British. Go see it now! :P (actually, it's not even out in theaters yet in the states.)

It sure is out. Zoomed in at number 8 at the US Box Office this past weekend with the second highest per screen average of movies in the top 20. It's out, and it's doing quite well.

I love teh huckabees was awesome.

existential detectives, interconnections, complete isolation, humour, philosphophy, everything, one thing, nothing.

Best philosphical movie in a long long time. plus it's very humerous . . .I think most of this crowd would like it.

These aren't new movies but I've only just seen them:

The Audition (japanese)
This is one of the freakest movies I've seen - seriously for a while I thought it was just a typically boring japanese romance (I have seen lots of these) pretty much right up until the moment the heshen bag moves and I still didn't understand how freaky it was until the woman turned into the bag and the guy came out.

I wouldn't say it was particularly scary - but very fucking freaky!

Purely Better (UK)
Awesome movie - I think probably aimed at a slightly lower age demographic than me but very inspiring none the less.

The Nostradamus Kid (Australia)
This is now one of my favourite movies - probably perfect for most modified people - about religion, love, sex, friendship and maybe a bit of politics - it's really cool!! Noah Taylor is the shit!

La Spagnola (Australia)
This movie is incredible - I think it's more aimed at women since it's mainly about a mother/daugter relationship but I think it's pretty awesome anyway - some great scenes (The Zucchini scene is one of the funniest in a movie I have ever seen) Definitly worth watching!!

the duel (non speilberg)

there is this amazing scene where this guy is flying through the air with a sword at this other guy.. and the other guy just stands there looking at him and right when the sword is about to pierce him, he jumps backwards, so now they are BOTH sailing through the air with the sword just inches from the one guys face but IT WONT TOUCH HIM and that other guy starts stroking his mustache in midair, ** this is when i started choking and screaming with laughter.. the whole movie is like this

I actually just got the Donnie Darko: Directors Cut DVD. I must say this to everyone; "If you have seen Donnie Darko, GO GET THIS DVD and see what you have missed. If you have not seen Donnie Darko, GO GET THIS DVD and see what you would have missed."

Drama, Romance and Science Fiction/Fantasy
1 hr. 53 min.

Some may think that Donnie Darko is a typical maladjusted teenager. Actually, Donnie is borderline delusional, beset by visions of a monstrous rabbit which is trying to keep him under its sinister influence. Prompted by this apparition, Donnie commits antisocial acts while he is undergoing psychotherapy, surviving the vagaries of high-school life and romance, and fortuitously escaping a bizarre death from a falling jet engine. Donnie battles his demons, literally and figuratively, in a series of intertwining story lines that play with time travel, fundamentalist gurus, fate, predestination and the machinations of the universe.

Donnie Darko is absolutely my favorite movie of all time, and I watched the Directors Cut version today, and I was enthralled and blown away all over again. There were numerous small things that tied the movie together, such as the chapterization of scenes, at the begining of each scene, a small page from Roberta Sparrows: Philosophy of Time Travel fades into view, and you can read an excript from it that has to do with the scene you are about to view. It really is an experience for the Donnie Darko fan to behold.

The only negative thing I would have to say about this version is that the director ( Richard Kelly ) has added some new cutscenes, that show Donnies retina widening, and stuff is going on inside of it (Indicating that Frank is telling him things). This is a cool aspect, but during a few of these, it seems that there is a computer read-out scrolling across his eyeball, and the screen around him turns into a digital interface of sorts. I felt that it really didn't fit in and would have looked much better without all that stuff. Just my 2 cents.

I would recomend this movie to anyone, simply because it makes you think about some things in life, especially the war between creationists, agnostics, and evolutionists. Very good movie, five stars, two thumbs up and a bag of popcorn!

This movie also has one of the best flash websites I have ever seen. An inspiration to my work.

The Proffesonial (LEON)... the international version with 24 extra minutes. i just bought that the other day. i think i mentioned/ other people mentioned it but get the international version.
