how cool would it be to have a 6 issue a year magazine for around the world, probley only flipsider could do it... just have a shit load of info on all the events in the past 2 months and upcomeings and all new things with posters and stickers and i mean it wouldnt be free, maybe a few bucks a issue or a sum of money for a year subscription, and some where in the mag there should be all kinds of stitchers bags for sale, and shoes, and shirts, and who knows maybe it would lead to haveing LOGO SHREDING SHORTS, how damn cool would that be. Put Shreding Poster posters on your wall, and have pics and stuff like a skateboard magazine or something and articals, and all kinds of shit maybe footbag.org could do it or something, who knows for all i know im talking out my ass and there is one all ready, but i dobt its ^ this cool, who here would say Hell YA to this?

zachatree let me just say that that would be awsome, I would love to get some good footbag posters and such for my room. I wouldn't want to copy skateboarding too much though, we should do our own thing. As cool as this idea is it sounds way to hard/expensive to be undertaken by our community. I'll try to look into what kind of equipment or how expensive it would be, because that's how cool of an idea it is. The bracelet idea sounds much more plausible though...

edit: ok I checked it out and it probably wouldn't be impossible, but it'd take a lot of work, and the result would most likely be a black and white photocopied type thing. The only other thing I could think of was if it was online and then people could print it out themselves.

There used to be a footbag magazine.

I believe you can read back issues of it at worldfootbag.com

The basic consensesus is that although a footbag magazine would be cool, the cost to produce it and whatnot would probably be more expensive than any money gained. Also, with the rise of footbag on the internet, the 'old fashioned' method of putting stuff in print is a bit slow and a lot of the information would probably be outdated/already available somewhere on the internet.

It actually kind of went the other way around. We used to have a magazine. You needed it because it was how you found out when and where tournaments were so you could go, or where you read about who competed and how they did at events you couldn't go to. But all that is easier to get off the internet for most people, and my guess is that subscriptions to the magazine dropped off sharply once the footbag got on the internet in an organized way. I would like a magazine, but I'm not sure what we'd put in it if all events are announced and listed on-line, news from the events is on-line, and rather than pictures of people playing, we have video of it on-line. And instead of having to pay for it and wait for the magazine to arrive, you could get it instantly for free. I mean, I still like the idea of it, and would probably want to get it, but what would be in it that I don't already have?

OK according to a couple websites the rough estimate for cost would be something like this... for a 25 page magazine, half pages (so one page folded in half and then stapled in the middle) front and back, black and white only, on regular paper is about 65 cents or so...

I would not like to see a footbag magazine develop until a very strong, centralized online community surfaces. I do not consider Flipsider, modified.ca, or footbag.org to be what this sport needs. All have something the others lack, yet I don't foresee a merging of them due to the personal interests of each. It doesn't exactly seem like modified.ca is readily recognized as the most prominent footbag forum, for example, which is a massive hindrance. It also seems like modified lacks the professionalism of either footbag.org or Flipsider. Both lack the information banks of Flipsider. Footbag.org has a large amount of movies, but all of these are hard to access without being familiar with a forum.

I would like to see a strong, newbie-friendly community to develop, and the advent of a footbag magazine just seems like splitting hairs, to me. We don't really need it. It just confuses new players more. It took me around 5 months to find modified.ca and it was then that I really finally considered myself part of the footbag community. If I wasn't part of RCS I would probably have given up footbag. Not all newbies have that. What really appealed to me initially were the Flipsider forums, as they were a source of information merged with a community. Think if all of the information was combined into one giant web resource -- one site where you could find tournament information, actual sanctioned news, a community, and a wealth of information for those new to the sport...

Then again, a footbag magazine could, theoretically, accomplish this. The magazine could contain news, tournament info, various tips and hints for newbies, etc. -- as well as say a CD containing the latest footage and trailers for movies. But as I said, this is splitting hairs! It seems to me like this is where Flipsider was trying to go, as well as the Brantford site, but each seem like they're fizzling, or developing slowly. If the effort was centralized, progress would be much faster.

Just my two cents.

I completely agree Spad, and I said as much in my feedback form.

I think that Modified should have an eventual goal of being a news portal for the footbag community, as well as a discussion forum.

Something along the lines of the old challenge network for the Quake series. Are they still on the go?

I work at a press right now, I don't know if I'd be able to get any deals on a magazine but it would be cool.

The magazines I end up making are made out of paper kind of like a regular newpaper. But they're generally in color.
