Footbag Banned at my school

I'm told everyday to stop shreding, due to the chance of hitting someone. I have never came even 3 feet of anyone not in a circle, ever, I dont kick it hard at people or anything, I even stop midstring if I see someone in the area or approaching to close.

So basically when they tell me to stop, I just say no because I am very careful and I know what I'm doing. Haven't got in *real* trouble yet, so I keep on keeping on. I just laugh when they tell me to go outside and play, dude, its 40 degrees outside and Im wearing shorts

Dude that's an awsome quote. I have a friend who still loves to play pokemon and he has gotten a bunch of people at my school to play it now...

Living in nice old California I can play outside all year long, even so I have gotten in trouble for it. In middle school we were hacky sacking (didn't footbag yet) and our principal made us stop so she could walk through, when she could have just gone around. Another time in Highschool my friend was kicking it and backing ran into a teacher careing coffee. It wasn't really my friends fault but the teacher got really mad and told him he needs to watch where he was going. Anyways school rules are stupid sometimes...

It was banned at my high school for some time, because of all the kickers who would boot it at the ceiling tiles or whatever...

So, I, the only serious freestyler in the scool, went to the Principal and told him what freestyle footbag was, and I explained that I was in fact *training* and not just killing time, and that I would only play in the school after school hours.

I executed some straight forward twos and threes, which showed him that I was actually focused on maintaining control, rather than causing havoc and whatnot.

He was pretty impressed at my skill and dedication, but at the same time, he couldn't say, "Sure, footbag is allowed now." because that would open it up to all the other CRAZY hacky sackers. So basically, he said, "Well, I can't tell you straight up that it's allowed, but I won't necessarily tell you that it isn't.

"

So whenever he spotted me in the hall, he wouldn't say a thing. He also told the other admin of the situation, so all the teachers would say is, "Keep at it, you'll be world champion!" or something close.

It was pretty great.

The first footbag related video we made was a response to the banning of footbag in our school. We filmed us playing in every place in the school that students were not supposed to be. Kind of a cheeky premise, but it was a good filming and editing experience. The best part is we used it for a multimedia project and scored big points. Afterwards, things became much more lenient.

That's awesome. I basically found out that the guy who reported me is an ass, and the other instructors sort of think that "you don't want to be on his bad side"...

Well, I don't really care if I'm on his bad side or not I'll keep on shredding like before. Most everyone else at the college thinks what I do is pretty cool. I've even had 1 or 2 instructors try it out with their shiny dress shoes on. HA!

I'm basically gonna let the email slide, and go about business as usual.

Business as usual backfired last night and today.

The instructor that initially brought the issue up saw me doing a few toe stalls in the hallway, so he tried to confiscate my bag. I got very upset and left without saying much to him. He took it as an act of severe disrespect, and immediately contacted the school president. The reason I walked off is that I wanted to calm down before it turned into a shouting match. I get pretty emotional when someone tries to take my personal property.

I am now suspended for 1 day, and if I'm caught playing in the school or within 20 feet of an entrance, I will be further suspended for 3 days, and terminated from my job at the college. This winter is gonna be real harsh... I'll have to learn to play outside in the cold I guess. :(

I am so glad I'll be out of this shit hole at the end of the year. I've put 3 and a half years into this damn college, and this is how I am treated? It's shameful. I see their point, because I _WAS_ a little disrespectful, but it's still shameful.

They should realize that people who smoke 3 cigarettes a day outside the school are hurting themselves and others more than I could ever do, and wasting more time as well!

In any case, I've only got 2 more months to keep it under the radar, then I am done with this stupid school.

I would try making the argument that you need physical activity during your 10 hour school day for health reasons. You could probably get a doctors note.
Also the school might be legally required to provide you with a place to engage in a physical activity if you are in fact forced to be there for long periods of time.
If you can show that it's unhealthy for you not to play footbag while you're at school there might be an outside chance for you to take some kind of legal action. But probably not.

It's a private school, so I highly doubt it.
I've actually heard the president of the school refer to it as a "dictatorship". He's perfectly willing to impose his arbitrary rules on anyone without a second thought.

I doubt that a legal argument could be made to stick, and even if I could, it would cost me a lawyer and all my worldly possessions to bring it to fruition. :P

I can still footbag, I just have to do it outside in the rain, snow, wind, freezing cold, and lung-clogging locust swarms (hey, it could happen). :P

Curse me for not going to UW Madison.
Herzing Madison is a decent school, but no place for footbaggers. :(

There's a handful of doucebags at my school who mock our beloved sport and teachers who are total nazis with our bags. Particularly gym. What the crap? And only maybe 3,000 miles away, some other high school's failing a kid for not too many tricks in footbag. This is a bunch of $#!t...

Sorry... I was reallly reallllllllly tired and this was at night after I go and hack but what it really was a rant from me....... what I meant to say was..............

Footbag is being offered as a phys. ed. program. The WFA touring team is highly recognized in the National School Assembly Agency....... now 4 million kids get to shred in gym but ours get confiscated what crap is that???

That's crazy. I think the footbag movement really has to take its' message out to schools, elementary and high school. Once I get better and more consistant, I'd be happy to bring footbag to schools in a demonstration with some other footbaggers in the area.

Back in high school, we used to change sports every two weeks or so... If footbag was one of those sports, that would have f*$king rocked, and I probably would have LOVED gym for those 2 weeks.

I grew up in Green Bay, WI though, so it was all about football, with a tiny bit of hockey and soccer...

that's so stupid, I was playing right in front of 3 "security guards" at mohawk and they didn't say anything, they kept watching me though, lol
