Footbag Sticker Shock

Post by Zeke »

I was just wondering, for those of you that play with facile 32's and run into hackers asking how much you payed for your footbag... what do you say when they ask, "Why the hell did you pay $25-$37 for a hack?"

or words to that effect?

just look at their shoes. If they are wearing expensive ones, then ask them how much their shoes costed. Then tell them they got ripped. Or do it with anything piece of clothing or item they have.

I usualy just tell them where they can get one so they can see the price for themselves, and why it's worth it hopefully.

explain that you are paying for the name, quality, consistency, and that it works out to like 5 cents for every hour of fun that you have playing footbag :p (also explain that bags take several hours to sew and any less would be slave labour prices)

I think it takes lots of patience to cope with the ignorant. Show them your
game, and then tell them why bag performance becomes an important
issue to consider at a certain level of play. Explain to them the significant
properties of your bag compared to theirs, and the benefits you get from
it.

I just say it's hand made and requires a few hours of work and it's really nice and well made and soft and stally. and also, most people don't ask outside the context of seeing me freestyle with it. so they know it's involved in something serious.

being able to bust out some good tricks really makes it a lot easier to deal with some of the questions of the ignorant because then, your style speaks for itself. Being able to say you get paid to do it basically covers the rest of the bases.

I'll usually say something about paying for the time and labor and most people are content with that. But every so often I get someone, for some reason, who will not let it go and make stupid comments about it in another circle. I can't understand why it should even bother them so much or why it would bother anyone at all. I mean, it's not like they payed for the bag. And I'm not saying that they absolutely NEED to get one to be good.

Thanks for the responses. I liked ebo's and I particularly liked hacksterbator's. I might use that word for word next time.

I always get "Fourty bucks for that?! Are you nuts?" To which I usually reply with something along the lines with "yeah well it's hand stitched by the best of the shredders, and the quality shows. It's worth it."

How bout direct insults to the tormenter?

Like your mother disses, or describing atributes that the ignorant one and lesser animals have, such as mules, or llamas.
