That was the only line I read because the rest of it looked too intimidating, and the bright blue link caught my attention.

I just wanted to let you know that the link is broken.

Sounds like a plan. A large plan, but a plan that could work.

Read the name of the website again.

...yeah, I wasn't serious. I read it. That's why I was able to comment on Cole's idea.

Well there would be rankings within each league. If you won you would begin to move up the rankings, and vice versa.

Yeah, I'll do it, I thnk. Byrin comes down once in awhile with his digicam, and I think my brother/roommate has a digicam also. Not very practical for longer videos, but it'd be good for 3 tricks.

Also, I think the challenge option is good, but it's always limited to
two players. It makes it more complicated. If you have 3 classifications,
novice, intermediate and open, everyone should find a level that they're
convenient with. Also, it's not necessarily the hardest sick3 that wins,
but maybe the coolest looking. After all, it's judged by all of you.

I put a poll together to see what you people want.

edit: my 1000th post!!

i think a stickied thread would be too busy for all the competitions

so i agree a sub forum with each challenge as thread to makes it neater

I voted for open competition because how can we possibly divide people into close to equal segments??

You are right ... I was rethinking this, and 4 forums wouldn't be necessary. I think you'd only need 2 ... 1 where all the voting matchups for the all different skill divisions are setup, and one for general chit chat. It could also possibly all be done in one forum depending on how much traffic it is going to yield.

I'm not sure if I complete understand what you are saying, but if you are talking about my proposal, I didn't mean that every single competition would be in one stickied thread. Each individual competition would be in it's own stickied thread titled something like:

Intermediate: Cole Hobson v.s. Tom Mosher - Vote now!

Or something to that effect. So there would be a bunch of threads at the top stickied that were the current active competitions, and when they were complete, they would become unstickied, so people would know where to easily find the polls to currently vote in.

Easily .. In most cases people will know what they are ... Ie. Jorden Moir = open, someone who just started playing = novice. For those in the middle, say for example yourself, you can choose to start competing in whatever skill level you think fits best, but you may be moved up or down accordingly as it goes on.

I don't know, an open competition with everyone in it may seem better for those who have a legitimate shot of getting votes, but for people who don't have the greatest shred 3 skills and simply want to challenge themselves to beat others of a similar skill and gradually work up to higher skill levels, the one on one challenges seem best.

What about this form:

In case of an open challenge, we have a new subforum called
"Sick 3 competition" or something, and there will be a weekly
contest.

-each week will be represented in 3 seperate threads, one for each skill category, named by the actual calendar week.

This would look like this:

thread 1: "Week 45, Novice"
thread 2: "Week 45, Intermediate"
thread 3: "Week 45, Open"

- everyone posts his video in the thread it belongs.

- after 7 days have passed, a poll will be added to each of the threads, allowing the people to vote. The poll will be active for 2-3 days,
after that the winner is set.

- there will be a sticky thread with the rankings.

repeat for every new week. in case there are too few competitors,
we could extend the contests for another week or so.

ADDITIONALLY, there could be seperate challenges for two people who
want to battle themselves. But this could also be moved to the videos
section (as the video battles have been before).

This is a great idea !

i think an open competition with three subdivisions
(novice, intermediate, open) is the best way to organize it.
Another way to divide it, would be tiltless/guiltless/fearless
and so on, but i'm doubting the practicality on that one.
If i had to decide for one way of scheduling the online
sick three thing, then i'd go for the open model with its
subdivisions .
But isnt it possible integrate both suggestions ?
One thread for open sick three and one for personal
challenges?
Maby thats just brainfartin' from my end, but perhaps
the more experienced players would come up with a
plan to combine these two concepts...

I agree ... I've thought about it, and the number of people who could actively participate during a week would probably make one on competitions die out or stale after a while.

I think competitions of three different groups would be good, and then "Points" standings could be updated every week and a leader board/ladder system could still be used that way. It would be cool if we could have polls where the people are able to vote for like 3 videos... Is that possible?

I still definitely think that all videos should be sent in to some moderator of the forum though, and then posted all at once by that person with the poll. This would just keep things much more organized and much neater in my opinion. This would also once again speed things up, and make things more fair, as all the other competitors wouldn't get to see the videos of those who post theirs first, and they wouldn't get the advantage of knowing what they are up against.

Other than that though, I like the idea ... It could follow a certain pattern and there could be comps every week, like one week to get your video together and sent in, and then one week of voting (I think 2-3 days is too short of a voting period, since a lot of people don't check modified that regularly). Perhaps the different skill level competiions could be staggered so there was always a period of voting of some sort going on.

Anyway ... I still think the 1 on 1 would be cool if there was enough interest and enough people who could send in videos, but maybe the overall global competition divided into skill groups makes more sense .

Just kind of thought of something ...

It could just be a way to pretty much have the open competition but at the same time have it be a solo one too.

Say there is an intermediate sick 3 contest going on and 10 people send in videos.

Say Player X ends up with the 3rd most votes after the week of voting. Player X has more votes than 7 other players, and therefore would get a "win" against all those other players, and he would have 7 wins for the week. However, against he would get two "losses" for the two people that finished ahead of him in number of votes. This could create a standings style head to head thing.

How does that sound?

Something that needs to be considered is how the results are decided. I think we should go with a vote - but nobody is allowed to campaigne for or against a combo - actually maybe the only people who can are the two hitting the combos - everyone else has to wait until the vote is over.

I think a good example is the brisbane sick 3 topic - where one combo (mine :? ) had a 9/1 lead. Then two or three people posted up saying the "1" combo was better and since then it's changed to a 10-5 lead. None of those 10 have felt the need to comment - presumably because either they are newbies who aren't really sure what they're talking about - or more likely they didn't feel it was necessary - anyway my point is that I think what people say can definitly have an impact on how people vote - and then people are voting on who wrote the most convincing post - not which combo looked the best to them. Anyway obviously I just sound bitter because nobody has spoken up for my combos and I'm biased - but I think in the future "no comments" is a good idea.

The other thing that needs to discussed is what are people judging on? In my opinion a sick 3 is primarily about hitting the biggest or "sickest" combo possible. I would rate the elements to be judged in this order of importance - Wow factor, Variety, control. By control I mean - does the player look like he's in control of the bag or not. I don't think sick 3s should become judgements over peoples styles - but if you look like you're about to lose control of the bag - it's obviously a bad thing - I think Kenny Shult's Double Spinning Butterflyer>Spinning Osis>Pdx Whirl is a good example of this where the sets out of each move weren't very good and he struggled to get to each move.

Perhaps somebody could go and find the IFPA sick three judging criteria (if they exist).

That's a good point.

About people commenting, maybe Jeremy is right about manipulating
the outcome of the poll. Because of that, the poll results should be
invisible until voting has ended.

Awesome ideas, im getting soaked from all this brain storming.

Jeremy, about the concern for voting, maybe a sticky with voting guidelines would help. Having a real good sticky about what to look for in voting could result in alot better judges for real life tournaments and such!

well I've hit my combo on video. It's not amazing but it's as good as I want to do. It's not as nice as I would have liked but I had a fucking shit session and don't want to play anymore - it should be good enough.

Should we upload and post now or wait until everything is set up?

Posting now would serve no purpose ... Wait until it's set up is my suggestion.
