I agree with the Spink. its stealing, and it has an effect.

That said, here`s my completely hypocritical contribution to this thread. If you want to mail a letter for free within your country, just write the address you want to send it to in the `return address` upper left section of the envelope. In the section where you normally write the address, just write in any bogus address. Mail the letter without postage. The postal service then sends it to the `return address` address, with an `insufficient postage` message. :)

Good thread!

I used to work at the campus bookstore and this guy came and wanted to return this seawolf gold jeresy. He said he didn't his recipt because he got it as a gift on friday. Since we have some 'no hassle' return progarm, I was so close to returning intill I remeber that we just got these jersy in yesterday(monday) and there was no way he could have gotten it any other way. Point of the story is that the guy took it off the rack and since the returns desk is in the back of the store nobody questioned him and try to return it.

Also, alot of people drink sodas and stuff when they shop nad leave the empty bottle laying around. I swear, I find one almost everyday.

So, you can try that. I would never be able to pull any of these things off, I always start smiling or laughing. I think I could do the postage one since I wouldn't have to talk to anybody.
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.

My friend said that he would go to Lowes and grab a ceiling fan unit off the shelves ($340) and take it straight to the returns and say he doesnt have his receipt. They galdly handed him about $1800 cash in a weekend at varous stores before he was *almost* caught.

That is definitely stealing

I wonder if Ken's doing some kinda art of posting. :D

I know this one to get yourself a free soda, beer, or any drink you want in a bar etc. place.
Spot someone who has just bought his drink and hasn't drunk it at all yet.
Let's say that it costs like $5.
Go to him/her and lay a wager (sorry, don't know if it's a correct verb. Like I've said, this dictionary has been printed in 1978...) that you can drink it without touching the glass with your hands nor using any straws or any other "helping devices".
Say any amount of money that is under that $5. The smaller the bet is, the better your victim gets hooked and the cheaper it's gonna be for you.
If it's ok for him/her, do the next things.
Now grab the glass with your hand and drink it quickly.
Then say: "So I lost, here's your X dollars", give the money and leave.

oh man, i used to do something exactly like that. i would go to a resaurant where you order, pay and then they call out your number, and you go up the counter and grab your stuff. so, you wait in the crowd of people waiting for food, and when they call out a number, wait for about approx. 30 seconds. if no one grabs it by then, look to the person next to you and go: 'excuse me...what number did they call?' and the person repeats the number to you, and you go: 'oh GOSH, thats ME!' and then i just grab the food and walk out.
the only thing is when you do it that way, you dont always get good stuff. like, one time i got like nasty chili dogs or something, but hey, its free food. when the food disappears, i assume they replace it for the other person who ordered it but never got it, so only the resaurant is getting screwed. i did this almost every day 2 summers ago at the same place.
best i ever got was 3 hot dogs, fries, 2 milk shakes and a soda.

Large chain stores factor shoplifting into their prices right, so if you don't shop lift it's like giving them money for nothing.

Actually it's like stealing, but c'mon; nothin like breaking the law for a kick.

Similarly if you find a receipt outside of a store on the ground or wherever , you can pick it up, go inside the store, find the same product from the shelf and then take it back asking if you can refund it for cash/another product.

Holy crap.
I dont know why ANYONE pays for postage!

I dont know why I never thought of this. This struck me as quite obvious after I read it, but it might only work in your city, not in your country.

Nice idea. Im gonna have to try that at least once.

This stuff is so awesome. I mean, it's all such a pyschological manipulation of the system (two big words I've never used in a sentence together before 8O ).

I'm going to ask for that book for Christmas.

Come on Christmas, get here faster!!

heh nice byrin. Thats exactly what I am getting at.

Social engineering IS NOT stealing. It is exactly what you said. Psychological manipulation of human nature.

Another great trick is for if you need information on a business (maybe if you are selling confidential information to a private investigator-another great way to make money.)

You just make them feel sorry for you, the human mind cant help but feel sorry for someone when they mess up or screw up on something, so they will usually give you any info you want
