I've been so stressed out with school and shit lately. It's so frustrating that I don't have time for the things that I actually enjoy. When I am stressed out lately, though, I try to see beauty in everything -- it's really calming. I have not been feeling very well as far as my injury is concerned and that is a huge part of my frustration; I have no time to exercise. I've been doing my stretches twice a day but I haven't done my weight exercises for weeks now. I will try to do them tonight once but I should be doing them three times a day. It is hard because it takes an hour or more to do all of my stretches and exercises once through. School is so rough. I missed my first test and I doubt I will get a rewrite. I spent all weekend catching up on these 3 really big paintings and I have an essay due next Monday which I have yet to start.

I decided that playing footbag may be just as good as my exercises or at least better than not doing them, so I schooled for about 5 minutes flip osis. It's not much but it felt nice since I haven't really touched a bag in what feels like way too long (Saturday?...)

It's really hard to cope with everything sometimes >______<

You got a rewrite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Feel better sweety, everything will get better.

To make you feel better: I have a Chem Test tomorrow and I have been trying to prepare as well as I possibly can, and so today I have officially spent 9 hours in Chemistry classes!! 9!! And I plan to study chemistry for 4 more hours. So that amounts to 13 (!) hours spent studying chemistry in the hopes of getting a good mark!! Now if anyone feels like school is hard to take, think about how lucky you are that you are not as weird as me!

Yeah I got a rewrite and man was it weird. I haven't written a test in, like, 2 years. I started out sooo slow and I had like 2 paragraphs when the girl on the other side of the table has just flipped to her next page (essay question). I really have no clue how I did. I either completely missed the point or I made a really really good one @________@

Anyhoo I shouldn't have hit this tonight:
http://www.hackrifice.com/marita/chan-recovering06.wmv

There is a short story. It's not really long enough to be considered a story, though, although it will be if I keep beating around the bush. Basically I was just skooling with my brother (actual skooling, not shredding). And he hit blur first try which was really really cool. So I guess I wanted to show off or something and hit blurriest then caught the bag and hit it on the other side and caught the bag. And then he played a bit more and I was telling him to try stuff and all this. And then I was like, "check this out" and I hit ripped warrior first try (I've hit it, like, twice before ever, really). And then I was trying for flip for a while and I was going to try beesauce after I hit it on that side and after about 4 tries on flipside is where the first clip in the video begins. (I've never hit it midrun before). Oh yeah and I had never hit spikehammer before and that was my weakside. It's a lot easier than ripped warrior I found -- I think that was my first try. I tried on my good side but I found that it was straining my good side groin too much so I didn't hit it. I totally shouldn't have done that. Stepping ducking is so bad for my injury. I wanted it beesauce on video sooo badly, though.Anyway, the end.

Oh, I also tried the challenges in my challengers thead. I am closer to the super long run than the crazy repeat combos (seriously -- ducking osis and spinning osis I can barely hit alone!!! Like...seriously BARELY. Maybe 1/8??)

OH!! I broke my osis record! My record was 15 and I hit 25!! :) I was soooo happy! I will keep skooling spinning and ducking osis alone until I am capable of trying the first combos and I will drill sections of the osis run -- the spinning osis > spinning osis will be TOUGH!

Erik!

Nice alpine blur>broken glass! I never play in my apartment for that very reason :)

I'm sorry you are feeling so crappy... I am sick today so I went home from work... I have been feeling really crappy about school lately too, and I always feel I have to fit my stretching in on top of footbag. It just seems like there are never enough hours in the day. On top of that I always have to make time for my girlfriend, and that takes quite a bit of time even though it is enjoyable.

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know that I know how you feel... It sucks when it seems like there is no time for anything and things aren't going your way.

I watched all your recovery videos though! They are awesome. You are looking really smooth, and I hope that you are continually feeling better. Don't push too hard too fast though, you obviously still have the skill, you just need to wait until your injury heals more to try your crazier moves. I am just now able to play without pain my leg. It took a while for it to stop being aggrivated by footbag, even when it seemed ok to play on.

Hopefully soon we will be able to shred together. Maybe I can make it out to canada.. I'd like to shred with andrew too.

I hope you feel better!!!! And if you hit my osis challenge you should try to get a video of it!

Erik you have given me an idea...I see you shred in your kitchen, such a small space. I have a small problem with shredding in one spot, but I have rearranged my bedrooom to give me a 4x5 space that should give me enough room to shred and force me to conquer my fear of shredding in one spot. :D . nice shred, I envy your stepping ducking

Thanks Adam. I guess I have just become accustomed to shredding in small areas. I started out in my livingroom during winter (probably 1.5-2 meters by 2-3 meters. Then I moved to my basement because it was too loud where I had about a meter by 2 meters. Having more space is definately way more fun, though. It's hard to spin in tight spots and boy do I love spinning. I NEED TIPS ON DOUBLE SPINNING. How the heck does it work??

Nice vid Chan.
I remember when tis board came up only you and clochough (no doubt I spelled this wrong) would post vids! Looks like you'ez def. climbing the slope to recovery!
I NEED TIPS ON DOUBLE SPINNING. How the heck does it work??
The footwork is a little tricky. You need to do several things
1) when you set the bag, your upper should have started spinning already. I think the set is really a big SNAP motion started with your head/neck/shoulders that should give you enough momentum to spin a full spin while the bag is still going up
2) plant your setting foot. Ideally this should be at around 270° from where you where facing when you started.
3) Use that plant to swing your other leg around for another full spin.

tips that make this easier:
- setting very high (you have more time that way)
- keeping arms close to body (see figure skaters doing axels)
- head should NOT lean forward or backwards or you will fall!
- try not to set the bag too close to your body or you WILL hit it.

hope that helps.

I'm still working on my challenges. But yesterday and today I hit a few neat osis things for me. I hit, like,
osis > osis >
pdx mirage > osis > pdx mirage > osis > pdx mirage > osis > osis >
pdx mirage > osis > pdx mirage > osis > pdx mirage > osis > osis
,
which was neat because toe set osis was basically impossible for me before.
I found that spinning osis is WAAAY too hard in the small space in my kitchen I've been playing in and I ended up punching my fridge really hard unintentionally and my mom thought I was so hurt she got up from the computer and gave me a hug! But I really wasn't that hurt.
I hit
-gyro clipper > gyro osis [repeat] (both sides)
-gyro osis > gyro osis (both sides -- almost 3 each side -- COOL MOVE!)
I get really excited when I do consecutive osii and my flip just sticks. I've been getting really dizzy on spinning osii -- I need more room! Spinning osis and ducking osis is HARD. Oh, I hit diving osis back to back, but I've probably done that before. Flipside is hard! I will hit ducking osis > diving osis [repeat] and then I will feel more ready to hit ducking osis > spinning osis [repeat]. Spinning is hard to play out of. Especially to spin out of. Are there any tricks for osis moves?? I started thinking of spinning osis as a spinning clipper bailed to osis instead of clipper...it sounds really obvious but it makes so much difference to just spin and then osis rather than trying to spinning osis, you know? The same as for ducking osis.
Anyhoo, I feel sick (too much eggsalad!) -- I've been playing daily, lately, though. I figure osis is so boring to skool on its own that now is the only time I will ever get to skool it, while it is the only thing i can do. I will try so hard not to get distracted from cool things that will injure me for 4 days straight if I try them (cough, cough...ripped warrior...cough...)

Very slowly improving the osis and the spinning out of osis.
Today I hit
gyro clipper > osis > gyro clipper > gyro clipper > osis > gyro clipper > gyro osis (the last trick was impulse which is really cool that I would accidentally bail to such a cool OSIS trick!) I was actually trying for that same string but with about three times as many gyro clipper > osii...Oh well. I'm finally coming along to the point where I have less of a "good" osis. They are evening out well and I can do spinning osis pretty consistantly and more smoothly. I feel a lot like Brad Nelson when I hit spinning osis, which is cool because I feel like I should be in BAP (when in reality I am not Brad Nelson :().
Anyway, that's my really slow progress.

I'm getting REALLY close to ducking osis > spinning osis [repeat]. It seems like such a bloody easy drill, but holy crap it's so not!!! I made up a whole bunch of drills to skool for this ultimate challenge combo. I hit:
spinning osis > diving clipper [repeat] (both sides)
gyro osis > gyro clipper [repeat] (probably both sides?)
ducking osis > gyro clipper [repeat] (maybe both sides?)
spinning osis > spinning osis (both sides)
For some reason gyro osis is SOOOO much easier than spinning osis. I end up doing it unintentionally a lot of the time. It's such a RAADDDical move! I love it. Oh I also did gyro osis > ducking clipper [repeat], maybe more than once in a row, I think. It sounds like I'm progressing really really slowly when I get excited about silly osis combos. Especially compared to people like Joe Kulacz(?) and David Clavens and Michal (Cod).
Anyway, I gotta stetch and call my Honey.
NEXT SESSION ducking osis > spinning osis [repeat] is MIIINNNEEE!!! I think I can hit that other combo too, but It's so long I didn't bother to look it up to try it today.

EDIT: Plus I just changed my avatar for the first time since the forum was created!! I was wary since the avatar has served me so well. I remember people recognizing me at CSS4 by my avatar!! R.I.P.

EDIT 2: I was pretty close to double spinning clipper and wrecking clipper rolled off, but my flipside is IMPOSSIBLE. It's whack. I need to skool flip spins. Spinning osis > diving clipper [repeat] felt really really nice. I liked the pause after the big spinning and then spinning the other way. It's neato! Oh yeah, I may have had inspinning clipper roll off both sides, too. I didn't erally try that more than a couple times, though. For some reason, in one run, it felt natural and I thought I was backspinning....

My osii are becoming a lot more reliable -- spinning osis looks a LOT less forced than in the Matt Cross video surprisingly since I haven't skooled it THAT much more since that session. I didn't really hit anything really super in this video, but the run with diving, ducking and spinning both sides got me really excited. I know the second diving osis is the -- I will work on that!. I liked how the gyro osis' really went to the music on the pauses.

Anyhoo -- I had a CRAZY deep intense groin massage at my athletic therapist's today. It hurt soooooo much!! I told him that I haven't felt like I'm really getting better and he worked me raw. I hurt quite a bit and he told me to expect to hurt in the morning. Plus instead of my next appointment in a month to see how I'm doing I have one again next Friday to work on the muscle.

I am considering accupuncture. Thoughts?

accupuncture is becoming a more and more normal method of rehabilitation. it's less "far east" or "witch doctor" than it used to be, and i have known alot of people who have benefited from it. just make sure your accupuncturist is recognized and isn't a useless dick. maybe get a referal from your athletic therapist, if he'll give you one. i have known physio people to be really annoying to deal with when you want to persue other methods of treatment and ask for a referal. hope you get back to full strength soon! shred on saturday? or sunday?

I think my osii look really chunky and aggressive still (like especially even just my regular osis), but thanks, Sam! That inspires me a lot to hear nice things like that :)

This is my story: http://www.hackrifice.com/shred/temp/ch ... ring08.wmv
