Ankle Sprain

Post by footjoe »

I was shredding yesterday with my new climas and i was doing a flipside whirl and my feet cought ( you no what happned don cha) and my left foot buckled and snapped.

I went to the doc today and i have a torn ligament and i got an air cast and some crutches and should be back to normal in 2-3 weeks :)

Wish me some luck on the recovering, I hope it comes back to normal.

I sprained ankle in May ... And it isn't 100% healthly today... It still hurts. But i shred hard - I can't live without playing footbag.

I'm incredibly luck, I have never really twisted an ankle in footbag or any other sport. I mean I have had little twists and sprains, but nothing bad at all.
Today I am nursing a rib injury and haven't had the balls to try stylin', it hurts to breath sometimes
Is this from that door you busted down?

Really hope you all get better soon.

Ive done my ankles 5 times, only once was it bad enough to go get crutches (torn ligament), took aaaaaages to heal well enough for me to clipper, and it still hurts a bit when im warming up.

If you dont want it to happen again, the only way to totaly avoid it is dont do butterfly/whirl/dod moves lol. Harsh i know.

No... the way is focus on what you are doing, on technique and form. Stop doing tricks isn't any solution.

Ps. What dangerous is in doing butterflys? This is simple trick... I never considered id as a risky move.

Exactly - I agree with Pawel Ptaszynski!

Also if you ever do land badly - don't try and correct yourself - fall over!! It is much better to have a bruised shoulder than a fucked ankle.

Reginald - how did you hurt your ankle? You should ice it every day. When I did my ankle to took months to heal - but I decided to ice it every day and after about 3 - 4 weeks it was completely better. It's still not as strong as my other one but it doesn't hurt any more and it's flexible enough. It's just annoying that I haven't really progressed with a lot of moves on that side because I haven't been able to do them.

Any trick where you dex and then land on the dexing foot in op clipper allows for a chance you might land on the side of your ankle and it subsiquently roll and become damaged. No amout of letting yourself fall can save you from that, the poor ankle support and generaly defence against rolling of the laver makes it pretty easy for this to happen.

As far as experiance shows me, the severity of the injury is dependant on how high you are falling from (weather ur doing a butterfly or a butterfly swirl) and the angle of your body on impact, you could use this info to calculate the force absorbed by the ankle joint apon rolling it.

For most people butterfly and whirl and dod are fine and they have little chance of rolling their ankles, but this is because they have done them so many time they instinctively know how to land. However there is always a small chance you may not be paying attention or your on uneven ground and you land badly.

As far as I can see, butterfly/whirl/dod are the only moves in which this can happen, because you land in a very inbalanced manner with all the impact taken on one foot that his only just finnished dexing.
Moves like flail and torque may also have high risk for rolling ankles, but they are too cool to stop doing so I didnt suggest them :P

When you are walking there is a chance that you can sprain your ankle. You shoul stop walking because of that...

Ah... and my experiences. I have NEVER sprained my ankle because of playing footbag. I twisted my right ankle once - when I was playing soccer. But it was close two times to sprain my ankle - once when doing whirl, and the second time was two days ago - when doing barfly, it was close to sprain my right ankle - this one, which was twisted in may, and still isn't healthly... But it didn't happen. I'm always focused and concentrated when I'm shreding and when I land badly I strained all muscles which are supporting my ankle and I FALL OVER! I didn't feel any pain after that... Jeremy has a right... Letting yourself fall can prevent sprain your ankle ...

Falling over does NOT always work!

The last time I tweaked my ankle (a week before world's 8O ) I was doing a toe whirl and the clipper foot nicked my whirling foot and I went down on the whirling foot full force in frigidosis position. Yeouch! I fell in a clump but there was no preventing the damage that had been done.

Be careful everyone.

Try R.I.C.E when you have an injury. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
While you have a bum ankle try learning how to juggle. :D

I've only had one bad fallage that lead to an ankle injury.

I was doing attempting Torque > Spinning Osis, I landed in a divot in the ground. My ankle cracked like celery and went in a complete 90 degrees to my calf. It hurt for about 10 minutes and then was completely alright. :?
